Well, I visited a wake for a few minutes today. It's always a nice touch when they leave the casket shut, I think. To hell with closure.

And in other news, it's Xanthusmas Eve. I get to enjoy all the fun of being twenty tomorrow. My guess is it will feel relatively much like nineteen.

Response to: Partial Birth Abortion Posted February 1st, 2006 in Politics

I'm with you, fli.

Seriously, though, this is an issue I couldn't stray further from the left on. While there is certainly a moral dilemma regarding the abortion of a fetus that is incapable of independent thought or feeling pain, the killing of a breathing, thinking, feeling child is another matter altogether.

Only a fool would deny the obvious truth: Partial birth abortion is infanticide, and nothing else. You can not put a liberal, bullshit spin about women's rights on this. An eight-month-old fetus has all the mental and physical faculties of a newborn child. There was no better day for me, abortion-wise, then the day this twisted practice was declared illegal.

If a woman waits seven or eight months to decide to have an abortion, then fuck her. The damned kid's already halfway out, anyway, so we're certainly not forcing her to go through the pain of birth. Seriously, eight months? We should sterilize the baby-killing bitch.

If we're going to kill children because no one will adopt them, then why don't we just kill the fucking homeless while we're at it? We can run through the welfare rosters and slaughter all of them, too. And cripples? Don't get me started on those piles of biological waste.

I am opposed to the death penalty, the war, AND the killing of babies. Hey, at least I'm consistent.

At 1/31/06 01:52 PM, M1911A1 wrote: Well, there are a few points I agree with. One is that Capitolism is driven by motivated self interest. I would not call it greed per se. Greed is wanting it all for oneself. Self interest on the other hand does not. It matters very little to one who has motivated self interest if someone else also has wealth, even if that wealth surpasses his own. The rugged individualist seeks what he sees fit for himself. Other are welcome to do as they see fit.

While it is true that an individualist seeks what is fit for herself, a person's goals are often set by those around them. Most people do have an inherent desire for superiority, so someone would inevitably rise above the rest, and there would certainly be others seeking to overpower him.

As for societal differences, China has a mostly homogenous population, very little in ethic differences. The traditional American culture of rugged individualism is far easier for a diverse ethnic population to grasp and rally around. Those raised in that culture can not understand why everyone wouldn't embrace rugged individualism.

There is a difference between ethnicity and culture. For example, Christianity is beginning to take root in China, as I understand it. Theoretically, you could have a culturally diverse society based on one ethnicity, or a one-religion, totalitarian culture made up of all the pigments under the sun.

This had lead to the "ugly American" syndrome that many of other lands perceive.
So, you're saying that the world's distaste for us stems from the fact that we don't have a strong cultural or ethnic majority? Well, I guess it would appear a rather chaotic environment to one from a more homogenous culture.

The true rugged invidualist who is also a capitolist enjoys seeing other succeed because the success of the others in no way diminishes him.
I would not be so quick to generalize individualism. After all, many are indifferent or even hostile to the sucesses of others. After all, individualism is based around one's own desires, and many of us couldn't care less about the plight of those less fortunate.

In such a climate, poverty is difficult to explain. It is easy to say that the wealthy got there on the backs of the poor but that is not the case in a true individualistic and capitolistic society.

It doesn't have to work that way, but it often does. From Carnagy to Walton, many capitalists climbed to their high positions on the bodies of the lower class.

Others may not be able to gain any more because of physical limitations. Those are generally provided for, hostorically by charities, but some favor a more direct approach.

There are those whose intellect is impaired and they have always been cared for the individualistic society.

Now here is a point I would disagree with you on. Aiding the less fortunate is generally not an individualistic behavior. It is actually bordering on socialism. An individualist's lifestyle is based around their own wants and needs, and not all of us have so high a conscience, unfortunately.

Here's an excerpt from Jethro Tull's song, Windup:

How do you dare tell me that I'm my Father's son,
When that was just an accident of Birth.
I'd rather look around me, compose a better song,
'cause that's the honest measure of my worth.
In your pomp and all your glory you're a poorer man than me,
as you lick the boots of death born out of fear.

Response to: Having a discussion about Communism Posted January 31st, 2006 in Politics

Oddly enough, I would say that Capitalism works because of its selfish and exploitative nature. It could be said that western society is more honest with itself. We all want to beat the top of the economic ladder, and Capitalism is a system that is more conducive to that.

You see, we may have an impoverished lower class, but we also have an upper class that is far higher economically than anyone ever could be in a Communist State. Granted, this type of wealth can only come from stepping on others and inevitably creates poverty, but the lower class play a key part in this system as well. They will continuously struggle to climb up the ladder, thus pushing our society forward.

Most of the great technological advancements of the 19th and 20th century come from greed, from Capitalism. Of course, if our rampant human greed is left unchecked, it can bring about a disastrous economic backlash, draining resources and hindering a civilization's progress.

Ultimately, I suppose that Capitalism works best in moderation. So I gues China has been doing something right. :)

Has anyone noticed that Politics is getting swamped with threads about racism? I'm getting a bit sick of kids coming in here and starting topics with "I HATE RACISTS LOLOLOL KILL THEM ALL ROFL" or "black people need to stop asking for handouts and get jobs." All of these poorly thought out racial threads, which seem like rejected Mind of Mencia material, are really taking things down a notch in here.

Response to: What are your views on racism? Posted January 29th, 2006 in Politics

My opinion on racism? The way I see it, there are two types of racism.

First, there's genuine racism. This is when someone engages in genuinely racist behavior, such as harrassing or threatening people based on their race, or actually bringing harm to them in some manner. This is completely unacceptable, and should be eradictated from our society.

Then, there's percieved racism. Some instances of percieved racism:

- A qualified white job applicant is hired when minorities have also applied. The cracker was qualified, so SHUT UP.

- An ethnic joke is made, such as the cracker comment seen above. This is not racism, IT'S A JOKE. You can not get up in arms every time racial slurs or racially based humor are used. Asian men have tiny dicks. Most of us know that the proceeding statement is a generalization, and entirely untrue, but it can be funny to say. There's no genuine racism here. It's humor, so get over it, and learn to laugh.

- Someone forgets to use one of our cute politically correct terms for non-whites, such as Native American, or African American, or Differently-Abled-Latino-Lesbian-Asian-Ame
rican, or whatever. Who honestly cares? Aside from maybe a name for identification, do we need all these words to define us?
