Unless Superman's degree of strength is amplified he will always lose to a Super Saiyan Goku

It'd be pretty close match, I think. Superman is quite smart so he could always take out Goku before/while he's powering up, instead of waiting around for him to finish like everyone else seems to.

Anyway, they would both come back to life somehow. Goku seems to do it every couple of episodes and superman seems to be able to do it with the minimum of fuss.

I read the early superman comics pretty recently, and it's just brilliant because there's no real supervillans, or parallell universes, or dark and edgy plotlines.
And the only real villain has some motivation other than being a bastard.

I think it's great anyway.
