For me, it's creativity.

But, with that creativity i first needed technique.
Once you hear a few things, and know what sounds right, it becomes easier to make new things that sound right.

Try listening to some really good drum lines and really tune in onto certain parts. For example, if you wanna learn the beat, listen to the bass and snare. If you wanna listen to fills, listen to the toms more. Be able to feel when the next fill is about to come, or that next crash is about to it.

Listening really helps a lot with this, but you can't be listening just because, you have to be really listening and looking for key aspects of the drums. Another thing to keep in mind is to listen how the drums move with the other musicians that he/she is playing with.

Well that's my little babble on doing drums from the creative aspect. I got a lot more I could say, but i'll leave that to any questions/concerns you may have. ^_^;;

Now i want to lay my voice over a beat, but i need to be able to hear the beat when I'm recording so i know when to come in. i have head phones and all that so the mic only picks up my voice. I just need to know how to play a track and record at the same time. Thanks for the help guys.

just import the track into audacity and under your preferences in the edit tab, click play other tracks while recording.

It should be under audio I/O

i made this today, it's a 15 sec loop, does it need anything?

that thing around 0:20 or so attacks the ears, maybe alittle less of that
and needs more drums (but that's cause i love drums)

other than that it didn't really loop over that well

but was a good listen, nonetheless

You'll still have to learn how to use FL studio also. So don't think it's that easy of a transfer.

nah ... with FL mp3's i have bigger problems... Windows Media Player don't play those, and that is not only on my computer
it says that those are not mp3

That's an odd problem?
Have you tried messing with the Audio Options of FL?

check the size
usually the portal have problems with Fl mp3's made directly because of the extra data that is saved together with the audio file

try using Audacity or Adobe Audition (ex Cool Edit )

fl mp3's probably just need to have the Audio Option sample rate changed.

And i nominate/vote/whatever...

1.) hania - her voice is amazing and her songs are very nice to listen to. She has many different moods (i guess you could say) with her songs that generate a lot of different feelings.

2.)MaestroRage - hell, when i first heard his tracks in Darkcut2 it was very inspiring. That was one of the reasons i decided to lurk around the audio portal. And simply put, all his other tracks are amazing.

Something I'm working on right now. I'm thinking piano solo, but thats rather cliché so I don't think I will. Oh well, any advice?

Starts off with a good pickup into the beat.
The vocal was a little weird, but i liked.

At 0:26 it jumps into something that doesn't seem to be in the right spot. Maybe add something in between those two transitions?

And as for the end...Possibly something like the beginning would work, in my opinion.

Hey, I could be wrong.

But not everyone follows the law either, ya know.

For it to actually be legal, I think you have to buy some sort of rights to the song or something. I don't really know (or understand) most legalities in music, so don't take my word for it. =/

As for the actual piece, there are a few points where it seems to jump a little to suddenly for my taste.
At 0:25 for example, it just didn't sound...right.
The rest of it sounded pretty interesting. at 0:48 i liked.
The ending..needs more work.

So yeah, good luck finishing by your deadline. ^_^
