My attempt to learn programming was infinitely more successful then my attempt at modeling, so I'll go with the latter; it's learning a new language, so you've got a head start. I couldn't make heads or tails of 3D modeling.

Interviews have been a staple of just about every artist showcase site I've stumbled across - see the art, know the artist, ectera ectera, and the difference between a great interview and a terrible one is basic spelling and grammar, and whether or not the interviewer bothered to research the interviewee.

I've read so many interviews that I pretty much automatically compartmentalize the answers as I'm reading them, but I've taken one single, yet to be wrong rule from it all; the art may be fantastic, the concepts awe-inspiring, the rendering pants-wettingly awesome, but all it takes is a few simple questions to reveal that artists just aren't very interesting people.

A few other ideas:
Fun Facts!
- even the most cookie cutter of information is inoffensive in short doses
Tips for the Modern Artist
- why all the artists in this book are primarily digital, and other hard to digest truths
Resources
- remember: if you're asking an artist about what brushes he uses, then he hates you already

That's all I can pull out of my ass for now. What's the difference between a review and a critique, anyhow?

Filter Bubble Posted September 16th, 2012 in General

As explained in this short infographic, a filter bubble is what happens when search sites like Google don't just prioritize search links according to each user, they intentionally filter out all links they think you'd disagree with, effectually isolating you in a world where everyone's thinks you're neat.

Let's think about the ramifications of that for a minute. Google tracks every move you make, every link you click on.

Which means there's not a single thing on the Internet that it doesn't know about you.

Which means it'll be totally fucking rad to see what everyone gets on different search queries.

Try these politically charged search terms and share what YOU get!

- suicide
- abortion
- is osama really dead?
- barack obama
- guns
- gay marriage
- the worst candidate

I, predictably, got a lot of liberal-lenient results. Most of you will, too. So only share the interesting stuff. Like this ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS result I got for Gay Marriage.

Chop, chop, post some results.

An interesting read! You know the platitude about curiousity and the cat.

The most I can say is that I'm still surprised whenever I encounter a bug in a game that isn't a boring old freeze-up. I know I should be pissed, but bugs make a game so much more organic.

And yeah, curly apostrophes aren't supported by Newgrounds.

Response to: An introvert's hidden thoughts Posted September 16th, 2012 in General

You're not as special as you think you are.

I paint a lot, and here some variation of the following from people after seeing my works: "I have great ideas, and awesome scenes in my head too, I just can't get them down on paper". Everyone has "amazing ideas", especially these days where we're exposed to so much stimuli. Ideas don't matter, having amazing thoughts does not make you a beautiful mind that everyone is shunning. Everyone is trapped more or less inside their own heads.

Sorry if that seems harsh, I'm just getting the "I'm a misunderstood genius who's better then everyone else" vibe from your post.

Good on you for enjoying programming, though.

I say break it off, too many complications and way too much trouble. I say this might be the one case in the entire history of relationships where opting to be friends is probably the easiest and mot acceptable course of action, and you can always resume your relationship in a couple of years if you're so inclined.

Well, considering the sheer mass of the Earth, and the shitty societal conditions that led to such a population boom in the first place, 7 billion is a whole lot less worse then it could be.

The system we are in could have been distributed with a more competent concept. The system we are in now, is an utter crock of shit. We do not ''NEED'' what you say we need. Knowledge came before buildings. None of this existed until Mankind created it. We still had our brains and we could have done anything with it - preferably much better.

Well, okay, what would you propose would be a better system? Nothing in depth of course, because no-one wants a novel, but just an outline of a system. Our current one just arose haphazardly out of the fundamental concerns of food and the continuation of the race, but neither seem to be dire problems right now.

Also, existential crisises are for babies.

I still remember my first one.

Doesnt matter wether I'm going to a new place, or trying something out for the first time, but time seems to drag on forever. Whenever I go exploring (there are many nooks and crannies to discover in Brisbane) it's like Matrix bullet time. Maybe that's an instinctive response.

Why is everything always personal? Posted September 16th, 2012 in General

Education, Job, House, Family, rinse and repeat. Systems there, and it's there for a good reason (species would have a hard time continuing otherwise), but why do we bother dressing it up as anything different? Everyone gets their own little spwecial education, job, house and family that means the world to them. We live in an age where there are 7 billion people on the planet, each and every single one of them following their own version of that 4 step plan, so ignoring the whole tragedy of the commons deal, let me ask you this:

If you didn't have to prove yourself to society, what would you do with your life?

Is it really surprising that people are putting off the most unwanted parts of the plan (house and family) for longer, each generation? Is it right to vilify those who reject their education in favour of simply enjoying life (and popularizing shitty acronyms)? How many people are trying to prove themselves fervently by exceeding at that plan and are making themselves miserable in the process? How many people are doing the same, but are ecstatic about it?

Or is what I'm saying balderdash? I dunno, I set out to prove a point to some other fucker and accidentally made some good points in the progress. Whatever, my thread is still way better. I don't expect anyone to change their lives over this; I mean, food and shelter needs pay, pay needs job, job needs education etc, but what would you do without that plan? What would you WANT to do?

Philosphical thinking is the number one cause of existential crises

Putting the burden of improvement on those unhappy with the current state of affairs like, never works. I've seen the same complaint and the same response a hundred times over. A better idea would be for those invested in the website to respond to those complaints with actions; that is, you decide to be more interesting.

Works a whole lot better, and more often.

It's because you're an obnoxious tactless dipshit, about as charismatic as a hatrack and the most pretentious fuckwad this side of Congress. Quite a few people here are intellectually inclined and enjoy a good discussion. Reading this thread is mostly just trawling through your verbal diarrhea.

There were a thousand ways to create and react to this subject matter that would have sparked a good (if short) thread. This was not one of them.

There is such a thing as a bad teacher, and such a thing as an extremely good teacher, and I would have thought that peer evaluation cross referenced with student performance would be a much more accurate choice. Also such a thing as a shitty student, so I agree; having student test scores count for such a gigantic slice of a teachers evaluation is stupid.

Anyway, I was reading through the thread and wondering if anyone else actually read the article, considering they all decided to focus on the money. At least I know one person did.

Nope. The sun is a big hunk of oak wood that was lit by two Native Americans who traveled there by ordinary canoe.

I thought this over and I agree with Cootie. The gremlin idea didn't really hold up to scientific analysis, and the sun fusion theory is just ridiculous technobabble nonsense, so that leaves the Indians. I mean you can just walk to the Sun if it's rising or setting, but a canoe would be faster and oak burns for along time.

Dude, what's with the links? Anyway, artists can get pruned if their art isn't up to scratch (and everyone they've scouted gets pruned too), and despite what unimpressive artists are in the portal, the unscouted section is oh so much worse. Plus it's a big step up from the previous system.

I honestly prefer the art scouting system, as an artist, and I'm not sure that the art and audio portals get the kind of attention that would be needed to sustain a not-easily abused judgement portal.

Because a person who idolizes a celebrity cares more about that celebrity who their fellow man, by far. Sometimes more then theirself. The kind of person who does that is a wisher; not even a thinker and certainly not a doer, and isn't going to be of much use anyway, so nothing of value is lost.

It has to be your teacher, because exponents are fucking simple.

Little tip: whenever you're having trouble understanding something, look it up online. The folks over at Wikipedia got me through many a physics test. Also try studying in groups with your peers, so you can share sudden understandings and whatnot.

Either way I bet that teacher is feeling the heat. The biggest percentage of students I've seen fail a test was 30%, and there was an absolute freak out after that.

Been on a polyphasic sleep schedule for the past week and a half; meaning that my next nap is never more then a couple of hours away, so lethargy is short lived at its worst.

However on a monophasic sleep schedule I'd combat lethargy with hearty meals and plenty of exercise. That said I'm not sure whether or not you're suffering from lethargic woes or actual sleep deprivation.

How erratic is your schedule (ex. 6 hours at 10pm one day, 3 hours at 2am the next)?
Do you find yourself zoning out, or otherwise prone to microsleeps?
How much do you eat in a regular day? Do you exercise often? Would you say that you're stressed? Do you find it easy to wake up to an alarm?

You see where I'm going with this. Of course you could make a bullhorn that goes off every two hours unless you deactivate it via fingerprint (in which case the countdown resets). That'll keep you awake.
