I think Spirited Away is the worst. Nothing happens!
That's funny, because Spirited Away is one of the best.

Like I said, "it all comes down to opinion." Here are my top five favorite Miyazaki movies.
1: My Neighbor Tortoro.
2: Princess Mononoke.
3: Spirited Away.
4: The Cat Returns
5: Howl's Moving Castle.

Response to: Anime Club Posted December 11th, 2009 in Clubs & Crews

Thing about assuming something is it only makes an "ASS out of U and ME".
Nah, really you were the only one it made an ass out of.

It's an old expression and I meant it to be funny.

Also what is this "Lucky Star VS The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" thing your talking about? I have no idea what either show or movie your referring to is about.

We concur to remain civil, and express our opinions?
Response to: Anime Club Posted December 11th, 2009 in Clubs & Crews

No offense, but that is not his fault.
Actually, it's entirely his fault.

Claws in much? Reow!

A good film can be made out of a bad novel, and a bad film can be made out of a good novel.

I agree with you on this point, only I reverse your opinion that he did a bad job.

Also, Laputa: Castle in the Sky is an original story by Hayao Miyazaki. Castle in the Air is a completely different story (it's about a genie). Only the title is similar.

Alright then. I read her Howl, and watched his Howl. I watched his Castle in the Sky and ASSUMED it was the same case. Thing about assuming something is it only makes an "ASS out of U and ME".

I guess it all comes down to opinion. You disliked Howl, I liked Howl. I think he is a great director and knows how to illustrate imaginative stories. We concur to remain civil, and express our opinions?

I just wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions, and for being very polite. I will leave Ya'll alone now.
You can stay you know. It's always nice to have fresh faces every now and again in here.

I will take that offer if it it is still available. You guys were so nice and helpful that I wanted to come back. Anyway, thanks for the invite.
*Scans page for something to relate to*

A friend suggested I should watch Howl's Flying Castle.
I always thought Howl's Moving Castle was the worst Miyazaki film ever.

No offense, but that is not his fault. As the movie is based off of his favorite author Diana Wynne Jones. He has done several of her books already, Howl's Moving Castle is just the most recent. Remember Castle in the Air/Sky, another of her books he made into a movie. So if the story is what drags the movie down, blame Diana Wynne Jones, not him.

He is a phenomenal director and animation master, but he has a unique taste when it comes to picking out story's to portray. I mean seriously look at his track record: Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's delivery service, The Cat Returns, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and now Ponyo. The only thing all of these masterful creations have in common is they are extremely imaginative, and they all incorporate flying scenes somehow.

Yeah Berserk is a good one.
Excellent excellent. The remastered version is excellent.

My Berserk DVD set arrived today! I ordered the Hellsing complete set, and the Ghost in the Shell: SAC box set.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions, and for being very polite. I will leave Ya'll alone now.

Response to: Anime Club Posted November 18th, 2009 in Clubs & Crews

Major win right there. Pretty much everything you need to know has been said aside from Berserk. But I don't know if you'd like it.

Yeah Berserk is a good one, I watched a few episodes online. I technically do not own Berserk yet, but I ordered the complete DVD set a few days ago. It will arrive soon.

Also, why only dubs and do you just watch the dubs on your DVDs or do you prefer the subbed? I can understand if it is for the purpose of supporting the series and companies.

Like I said I am picky. I don't understand a word of Japanese. I like to watch movies where I can understand what the characters are saying. Whenever its subtitled I keep having to pause the movie because I am a slow reader.
I try to weed out good anime from bad anime by watching whatever I can find online. But the problem with that is free videos usually come in bad quality, subtitled, variety of languages, and missing large chunks sometimes. So when I find something I like I try to buy it in the format I desire.

Sorry to intrude, I hope I'm not interrupting anything.
How can you possibly interrupt anything? This is a bulletin board system.

I figured as it was a "club" I would be polite. I was unsure whether open comments were welcome.

Cowboy Bebop

I've seen a few episodes, I'll check it out.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

I have the movie, did not know there was a show, Thanks.

Hellsing (OVA)

I totally forgot about that one, defiantly buying.

Thank you so much.

Response to: Anime Club Posted November 17th, 2009 in Clubs & Crews

Sorry to intrude, I hope I'm not interrupting anything. Most of you guys seem to know what you are talking about so I feel it's best to ask your club. I'm trying to find some new Anime shows or movies that are good. I wanted to get some suggestions. Here are some of my preferences and shows I already own.

I only watch already translated [dubbed] Anime. I try to get complete box sets to save having to get all the separate volumes. I hate "high school" genre Anime and anything Dragon Ball related. I guess what I like is a good story, an actual plot or overall goal. Any suggestions or comments would be helpful.

I own ALL the Slayers seasons, OVA's, Games, and Movie. I look forward to Revolution.
I have the original Neon Genisis Evangelion, Death & Rebirth, and End of Eva.
Miyazaki dubbs, Cat Returns, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki Delivery, Tortoro, and Mononoke.
Vision of Escaflowne, and the movie.
Complete Witchblade series.
Record of Loddoss War, don't have the squeal series.
Nightwalker OVA complete.
Kite, Gantz, and Mezzo Show and OVA Forte.
Ninja Scroll older movie and newer show.
Complete Soultaker.
Excel Saga.
Chobits.
Some of the volumes to Vampire Princess Miyu.
A few volumes of Noir.
Complete Kimba show and movie.
Complete Lain.
Finally, Tenchi: Muyo original and Muyo New, In tokyo, and the Mihoshi/Pretty Sammy OVA.

Sorry for taking up so much space, I just wanted to make sure you guys did not suggest something I already had. Thanks.

You all seem very dedicated to keep the AP safe. Why do you do what you do?

Because it raises my spirits, it makes me feel good about my own crappy B-works.
Lets me know that even though my works are not good, they are my own.

Flag up on Genicide-sk8r.... again.... 3rd time is a charm I guess....
Same "arts" as before, same lesson she has yet to learn.

Response to: Art Portal Patrol Posted October 25th, 2009 in Clubs & Crews

I have found one NG user who recently joined the art portal. His name is Genicide-sk8r. I find SOME of her stuff to be portal suitable, but she has ALL of his works in the portal to be viewed.

Yesterday, I reported this user. Now I really suggest an investigation on the same user. I have done everything within my power to lurk and obverse possible thief. I have this gut feeling something is wrong, and I have patrolled as far as I can for the past 6 hours, but to no avail. Because there is an Diviant account very similar to the NG one, it is hard for me to find evidence through standard means. The person who is in control of the NG account has little to no idea how the images were made. So maybe it's another complete identity theft kind of deal, much like the Egoraptor incident, only less public, and the user has no mod powers.

I can't find any people who are stealing arts, posting photographs, or tracing. But I have found one NG user who recently joined the art portal. His name is Genicide-sk8r. I find SOME of his stuff to be portal suitable, but he has ALL of his works in the portal to be viewed. Stuff like this for example, Lion. I don't feel he needs to be unscouted, but a polite PM from a Mod saying he should segregate his not so good stuff. I really am grasping for straws to be reporting this... geez.

Double posting after almost a week? What?

Art Portal "awards". It came to my attention that a few of my friends received art portal awards much like the one issued in the flash, audio, and game portal. I had no idea that a person could win awards in the art portal. Its a huge step in the right direction, and I am very happy for my friends who received the awards. I just wanted to know a little bit more about them, I knew that they existed, but I don't know what criteria must be met to earn one.

I wandered around the art portal and unscouted section for a good hour today everyone seems to be behaving. Yay.

Flag up on plasmaelite22. I know for a fact he stole thiswithout Tineye or Diviant searching. It may sound a bit odd coming from me, but I know my Eva hentai. This was originally page 12 of Ayanami Rei book 2. The goth version was a Halloween edit from 2006. As a formality though, Tineye came up with 4 hits.

Flag up on Roland7749. Before when I reported recreated pixel art of already existing Nintendo stuff it was excused. This time however I believe the guy stole a cheap pixel art and is says that he remade it. Naturally it is the main screen of a Zelda game so TinEye came up with a 9 similar results, not much proof. However I can tell that it is stolen is because the guy forgot to crop the right side. You can see a sliver of white along it. If he really spent "hours" making this he would have noticed the mistake.

I dislike the whole scouting branch system. But what can we do about it? We can complain, but I really dislike doing that, I like to solve the problem rather than make more drama out of it. Like Ornery and Captain said the admins are re-tweeking the scouting tree manually to the way it was before the "little hiccup". So I am just going to not get involved with the whole mess. When it is fully restored, like when someone says "all clear" or after a week time period, I will become involved with scouting new talent again. Until then I will be monitoring the portal for people misbehaving and reportingNG users.

Speaking of which: I am reporting the NG user CybNexusMkII. He has an "alright" handle of drawing but he is sending photos of his drawings instead of scanning them in. None of his stuff is stolen I TinEye'd them, no results. He is unscouted so his stuff is not causing problems, but they are photos of drawings so I was unsure if he was breaking any rules. He has been a member of NG for a while now, and he seems to behave throughout his BBS posts. Not sure if him taking pictures of drawings is a problem but I figured I would report it before someone scouted him.

More than likely they are probably legit, it is very easy to copy/create pixel art in MSpaint. Since it's just copying sprites it doesn't really need to be in the portal, but I'm willing to guess that they were legitimately made.

All right. Like I said they were really close to the originals so I was unsure. As long as she doesn't start the whole "vote 5" B-S I'm cool with her. : )

Response to: Art Portal Patrol Posted September 20th, 2009 in Clubs & Crews

The portal is still going a few tweaks here and there from the little hiccup that happened a few weeks ago. A restore is being done to make it as close to how things were before the problem. So don't be surprised if some scouts get rerouted to their original scouters.

For the most part it really doesn't matter who scouts who, as long as the good artists are scouted. Its nice and all to have some of the most popular artists or your favorites on your branch, but ultimately be happy that they are scouted, don't worry about who has them.

I like how you called it "little hiccup", LoL.
I agree with you, doesn't matter who scouts who. It is sort of a let down, but I'll get over it.

In other news:
I am unsure about the user Lilvampire66.
She is only a few days into NG, and posting rehatched pixel arts of pokemon. The pixel arts she does are completely similar to the game's images even down to the very small pixel size. She even posted them in their numerical order. Tineye and Deviant does not have any leads on her pixel arts so she may very well have made them with MS Paint like she claims. But they are exactly like the ones in the game, which is why I have my suspensions. I really do not know what to think. She is unscouted so her stuff is not in the portal, maybe it isn't so bad, again I do not know. This one toes the line so close I can't figure if she crossed it or not. Maybe you guys can dig something up? I am not trying to make this a witch hunt, but like I said on my end I can't make heads or tails of this.

I had 7 scoutees yesterday now I am down to 1.
I was really careful in picking them out from the lists you guys gave me.
They all seem to have been rescouted, so is this a system adjustment or something?
I am not upset, but I am confused as to what happened.
Just thought I should mention it, as I was scouting them under your guys orders.

Okay here is my latest work for the collab.
Donkey Crosse, lets face it its the only sport Nintendo has not made a game out of.
Its pixel dimensions are appropriate, but it needs a transparent background. I do not have anything that can make the background transparent... I tried to find something in MS Paint, and I even tried to do it in Word because a person suggested it once before.

Feel free to do detective work, it makes our job easier than just saying "stolen" and giving no other info. But don't try PMing the user or you might fuck up a potential snare. Its best to just flag a piece and leave it to the mods to handle the rest.

Here is a guide for detective work. (The next step assumes that the previous failed to produce results)
1.Tineye
2. Do they have a deviant art? If yes check there. Does it match the work?
3. Search deviantart anyway, use similar titles or characters (search by popularity seems to get faster results, because people steal good stuff most of the time)
4. Is there a signature on the piece? Does it match each piece? Can you read the name?
5. If they have a name listed, google it, look for a real artist website.
6. If you find their real website, you can either flag it and use that as a link (most real artists will link to their official website) or PM a mod and have them look into it, it is possible that the website is old and its not a thief, but mods have their own secret tricks for telling. Please don't PM the possible thief, it just makes our job harder.
7. If no website is found but you are still sure search other art websites you frequent, you'd be suprised what comes up.
8. If you are still sure its stolen but cant find any proof either flag it so that we are alerted, or post a link in here and other users might have better luck. We will let you know if we find out that it is a legit artist so that you all can relax.

Thank you for the tips. I will be sure to memorize them.
I have already gotten used to using TinEye, it helped me to flag two other people before.
I am familiar with deviantart, but I do not frequently visit. I only ever go there to view friends arts they post there. Maybe I should make an account and use it to lurk there in secret. I want to be helpful, and reliable, sometimes I get carried away. Its a good thing I caught myself this time, it could have ended up pretty messy.

In other news, LegolaSS, I just snagged two more. Kevinsano and SunnyRays. So far my scouts are really freindly and grateful for the scouting. So thanks for taking the time to make the lists you and Ornery made.
*Hugs*
