Are you connecting via wireless, or through ethernet?

I've read everywhere that TalkTalk have awful customer service though, so I might just try to convince my mum to switch providers again (she said something about having a month to switch).

You're probably on a rolling contract of a month at a time. If you are, that's fortunate, given that when these packages started out, you were tied to a 12 month contract. The companies seem to have gotten a bit more competitive, though. I've always been on a one month contract, but it's an expensive one that I could do with sticking with (or finding an equally reliable service for lower cost), since I need to maintain uptime.

Have you considered that the modem might be the source of the problem? How old's the modem? And what's the make/model?

I've been through a few routers/modems. They seem to have a lifespan of around 3 years. The oldest D-Link router that I was using in a house I was renting with friends years ago started doing exactly as what you've described - constantly dropping the connection. Replacing it solved that problem.

This kind of misconception happens quite regularly. I THINK what it's down to is the voting message, which says something along the lines of "Your combined blam and protection points gave you an extra X% voting power."

The X in this case (since he has less than 100 total blam and protection points) would be 0%, which I'm guessing is what he's actually referring to.

That's incorrect. Please see: http://www.parliament.uk/about/how/membe rs/electing_mps/candidates.cfm

"People wishing to stand as an MP must be over 18 years of age, and a British citizen, or citizen of a Commonwealth country or the Republic of Ireland."

As for the age of consent, I was covering "both bases" with the age there.

Is being 18 years old not enough to be able to tell your parents where you're going and not be afraid their answer these days? In the UK at 18, you can:

a) Drive (actually 16 for motorcycles that are 125cc or under (or something like that) and 17 for cars (unless they have changed that
b) Vote the powers of the country into their positions
c) Be sent to prison (actually, you qualify for that a year earlier)
d) Buy cigarettes
e) Buy alcohol
f) Have sex with members of either the same or opposing sex
g) Join the army (actually, I think that's at 16)

etc
etc

If you're entitled to all these decisions at those ages, then really... what's the big deal about meeting up with a few people, particularly when it's all documented. It's not like you're going to get throw in the Thames. OR ARE YOU. >_>

You're from England lmfaooo

The fact that the "Mos Asian Pop. City You've Been To" is San Francisco. I'd say you have some travelling to do. That's what's funny about it.

btw, I was out there visiting one of my oldest (known him since I was born, literally - our birthdays are two weeks apart), who was an artist in residence there for 8 years. Have a look through some of his paintings if you like (these are pretty old now).

Anyway. I've been to Japan twice and visited; Tokyo, Kyoto, Miyajima, Hiroshima, Osaka, Kure, Aki-Kawijiri, another place beginning with M that we had to take a long ferry ride from Hiroshima to and probably a few other places that I forget about. Here's a picture from the island beginning with M that I forget. I might upload a picture of a deer eating a sign on Miyajima if I can be bothered.

In PHP, you can use either highlight_string() or highlight_file() to highlight syntax.

http://www.php.net/highlight_string
http://www.php.net/highlight_file

Or, you could try saving the files as phps, rather than php, if your server's configured to handle those extensions.

Topic: I can't see flash animations.

Posted: 11/23/09 09:54 PM

Forum: Where is / How to?

Ok, I just looked through my post history. This kind of thing has been ongoing for years. Tim (network guy at NG) tried to get it resolved, but when he called the ISP in question, he got through to people who couldn't speak English (and he doesn't, to my knowledge, speak Spanish) - so I think that's as far as he got.

For reference:

http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/8154 47 That was in 2007

http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1087 847 July 2009

Jixter, you seem to have a good grasp of English (and I'm assuming you also speak Spanish), so if you call your ISP and find out what's going on with requests to:

uploads.ungrounded.net

That's the domain that the NG flash content is loaded from. It's on a Cogent network (as are the pages you're reading right now, though for some reason, those load fine and the flash domain doesn't). Hopefully they can then get the matter resolved. Let us know how you get on.

Go here: http://www.newgrounds.com/lit/faq/

Do you see the flash animation? It should look like a TV screen in the first section below all the main links.

Also, please do not say "it doesn't work" - that doesn't help. Elaborate on what browser, version of browser, version of flash, operating system and version, what firewalls you have in place, etc. The more details you can give, the easier it will be for people to try and identify the problem and help you fix it. Oh... Also, what's your location? You don't mention it in your profile. If you're in Argentina, that could be it (known network problem that may or may not have been fixed), though I'm just clutching at straws there.

Thanks, I've installed that. It's taking a little getting used to. I also liked the fact that DeadAIM would let you clone AIM screen names - so I could have both my private and public names open at the same time. But I guess that's not a big deal, I'll give this a whirl.

Any idea how to turn off that ad at the bottom of the buddy list? That was another benefit of DeadAIM, none of that crap was there.

Why don't you just get that?

I haven't used it in years - the last time I did, it did not support tabbed messages (which is a must) and bombarded me constantly with news ticker messages etc. If it has ceased to do that, then maybe I'll give it a go. That's why I'm asking - I essentially want something that will support tabs and not bother me with crap I don't need to read. If I want to read the news etc, I will go to a news website.

Does it support tabbed messaging? That's one of the things that drew me to DeadAIM years back, as AIM used to just open a new window up for every conversation. Given that I quite often have up to 30 conversations on the go at any one time, that wasn't particularly useful to me.

Long story short, I'm in the process of migrating laptops. I've always used DeadAIM before as an AIM client, but I've bought it at least four times and I'm not even sure whether the latest version of that (haven't checked) is compatible with the latest version of AIM.

So, any recommendations for what I should use? I'm running Windows 7 (64 bit) on this machine.

I'm not interested in the "AIM sucks, get MSN" argument, btw - all of those who I care to talk to use AIM, so that kind of advice won't help.

Thanks guys.

I wondered the same thing. I went out for beers with a friend down there and had a little rant about it. He explained that, as silly as it might seem, the weekend is the quietest period of the week for the tubes, so that's why they do all the maintenance then. The only gripe he had was that they never seemed to be able to finish the maintenance and that there were rarely any noticeable differences.

However, large parts of the undeground in London has been in existence for well over a hundred years old, so I guess the works are kind of necessary.

I booked into a Citadines hotel in South Kensington for the last meet, thinking it was an ideal place to be, given that its stations have access to three tube lines (and < 10 minutes from the london eye on the tube).

Unfortunately, two of the three were closed for the weekend, which foiled my plans of convenience, so wherever you book, make sure you check for planned tube downtime first.

It looks like China's getting on in the world of technology: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/83 62825.stm

This comes at a time (I know I posted this link earlier in another thread, but whatever) when an internet censorship debate was muscled down over a "controversial" poster, which depicted the great wall of china as being symbolic of their (China's) stance over the global internet (and restricting access to it), or something like that. Linky pinky:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/83 61849.stm

It'd be nice to see China collaborate with the rest of the world on developing the internet, rather than closing themselves off as they do in certain circumstances, since it's clear that the country has an interest in technological development (which will only gain momentum as the country continues to develop).
