Actually, the USA does more military spending than every other nation in the world combined.

Actually the U.S.'s defense spending is only about 42% of the world's total. Still impressive and monstrously huge, though.

And regarding the OP's thread, China would never go to war with the U.S. in the foreseeable future. They depend on the Americans far too much to engage them in warfare.

China needs the U.S. much more than the U.S. needs China, truth be told.

So even if someone working for a CEO makes a great salary, the CEO mustn't be allowed to make 100 times more?

That seems to discourage financial success and has a disgustingly regulatory feel to it.

Also, many in America struggle to pay the bills for their modest lifestyle no matter how hard they bust their ass.

They didn't bust their ass when it mattered, and now they do after making poor choices in life....

Granted there are exceptions, but this is most often the case.

No because I don't let petty shit like that bother me.

And besides, people do seem to be more intelligent and creative when high, but that's just my observation. Feel free to disagree.

And then they assume they're some kind of new Jesus with an enlightened mind and everyone that isnt a pot head is "the man" keeping them down...

I find it entertaining rather than annoying.

And then they spout out their stupid ghetto jargon, calling a plant "dank" and "poppin",

How is that ghetto?

it's moronic,

How does this particular slang usage indicate stupidity?

they fucking salivate whenever someone pulls out a bag of oregano/weed/mashed up grass like fucking dogs.

Most people I know who smoke weed don't act like that. Most people I know who smoke the stuff are only occasional smokers.

Stop stereotyping.

Why dont we just make it legal so they shut the hell up?

I agree, but not because I'm annoyed by them as you clearly are.

Christ, youre not better than someone else for smoking weed, nor are you a hardass that lives on the edge and kills hookers on a daily basis. Half of them are fat, lazy, wastes of flesh that worship that overrated, hack, Bob Marley.

I've never known any weed smokers to act like that. But hey, I don't know any weed addicts like you seem to.

Obviously I'm not talking about every weed smoker, some are cool, but now it seems the assholes are becoming much more prevalent, is anyone else noticing this?

It's just you.

Honestly, whos bright idea was it to give these guys millions?

You obviously have no understanding of economics and the law of Supply and Demand. Technically speaking, professional basketball players may actually be underpaid for what they do.

The point I'm making is that these players make so much money because their skills are in high demand. Thousands of people go all of the time to see these players do what they do best, and they are considered some of the best players in their respective sport in the world.

Because there are so few people as good as these guys, they are in short supply and thus in high demand. That's why they're paid so much, and technically, the law of Supply and Demand states that they're supposed to be getting paid more, but they're not for certain reasons.

You dont deserve to be rich because you can throw a ball through a hoop.

At least one law of Economics disagrees with you, and a law of economics holds more value than your opinion. I'm just being blunt with you.

Addressing the OP's thread, I'd just like to say that I stopped caring about NBA games a while ago. I didn't even watch any of the playoff games that my favorite team was playing in. This issue is interesting, but it doesn't bother me much.

No it wasn't. It was founded by a by a bunch of Brits on the North American continent who didn't feel like paying more taxes without being able to politically object to them via representation in the British Parliament.

The founding fathers all believed in and prayed to God.

Quite a few of the founding fathers were deists.

This "Under God" spirit seemed to last for a good while after all the founding fathers were dead, and I would find it interesting to research any existing links between the decline of this "Under God" spirit and the deterioration of our economy, justice system, government, etc.

I hope you don't think that this decline in religious fervor has anything to do with the U.S.'s perceived decline.

In that case, you'd be committing the logical fallacy of "correlation implying causation." No proven causal links exist between religious zealotry declining and any supposed deterioration of the American way of life.

However, the US of A is certainly not living "Under God" anymore,

Except for the fact that more than 70% of all residents of the U.S. identify as Christians.

in favor of religious neutrality that seems headed toward atheism, and holing onto the Under God phrase is hypocritical. The problem is, those who do still consider themselves to be Under God do not want it removed or changed.

OK then.

51.3% of americans are protestants, and about 23.9% are catholic

That's irrelevant.

the rest are assorted

so it remains that the u.s. is by-and-large, still a christian nation

Even though the Constitution makes no mention of Christianity.

Also, the founding fathers did state and/or imply that the U.S. is a secular nation.

i see no need to remove these phrases as it's not violating the separation of church and state

Well obviously you're just being disingenuous with me. Either that or you've no idea what you're talking about.

the exact words being

"...I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church & State"

having those words on coins or in a pledge isn't forcing you to convert or preventing you from exercising your religion

But it creates an atmosphere of supporting any religion with a god in its ideology. I'd say that would suffice to make it unconstitutional.

and blaming it on the "christian right" is lazy and ignorant (bowman who suggested the phrase 'one nation under god' was a member of the union league club ffs)

Lazy and ignorant?

So you mean to tell me that the Christian Right had nothing to do with these and other attempts to indoctrinate the U.S. and "subtly" introduce God into our secular government?

I agree.

And addressing the OP's question, I do think that the words "Under God" should be excluded from the Pledge of Allegiance, as it is obviously unconstitutional. The same goes for "In God We Trust," a common phrase that can be found on any denomination of U.S. currency. Both of these things are blatant violations of separation of church and state, but somehow, the U.S. Supreme Court made up a stupid reason to keep them intact.

I think that within this century, "In God We Trust" and "Under God" will be things of the past, ruled unconstitutional because they were poor but successful(Only insofar that they haven't been ruled unconstitutional) attempts by the Christian Right to blend Church and State together.
