Gaelic Nation

Gaelic Nation Posted April 17th, 2009 in Clubs & Crews

This group is for anyone who speaks Irish, wants to speak Irish, is from Ireland, is interested in Ireland and so on. This group is for anyone with any interest in Ireland at all, and as such group topics will cover Ireland on the whole, including, Language, History, Mythology, Beliefs/Traditions, and anything else.

RULES:
1.) No Spamming
2.) No Repeat Posts
3.) No General Bashing
4.) No Links/Videos to Sites of Unrelated Topic

If anyone joins this group [enough for me to manage] I'll come up with a ranking system of some kind for members to determine where they stand, based on Knowledge/Contribution and overall time in the group.

are you shutting it off while its saving? did you play it while it was charging?

Response to: Snes Or N64? Posted April 17th, 2009 in Video Games

Snes was great because it really expanded the types of games being made, but 64 had better games in overall quality, and depth. and also, a 64 is almost impossible to break [step on one, it wont break, then try that with snes]

I like yours better, ya friends is better drawn, but i like the shape of yours and stuff better, seems more practical, which is weird, because i never draw practically, not somthing i care about usually

It looks cool. The sword reminds me of a sword my great, great, great ( etc. ) grandfather has passed on in our family. I would post pics of me holding it, but i'm not allowed to touch it.

Yeah, i have a colection of sword and knives, including a one handed battle axe [not a toy, this things a real axe] and i have a jappanese rifle from ww2 [i know, not a viking weapon, but i had to mention it]

also, i was wandering around he internet, and found this article from last year [you probably all know this already]

"ScienceDaily (Jan. 31, 2008) - New research shows that people with blue eyes have a single, common ancestor. A team at the University of Copenhagen have tracked down a genetic mutation which took place 6-10,000 years ago and is the cause of the eye colour of all blue-eyed humans alive on the planet today."

[though blue eyes arent exclusively viking (celtic people developed this around the same time without trading genetics with the norse, though later in history they did) they are exclusively northern european { excluding mongolia, mongolian genetics are weird, every once and awhile the kid will come out blonde haired and blue eyed, with no one living in the family looking like that}]

ok ive said enough

oh and i cant remember who asked already [Im a burn out aparently] but they asked if female viking warriors exsisted.....the answer, in story, yes, in real life, no. but, they had a more important role then most women during that time period, as well as almost equal treatment [not really, but for the times, yeah, equal treatment] as well they could be land/title holding.
Yeah TCK asked

there are a few mentions in njalls saga of women using the "he hit me/raped me" line. it usually worked. so they werent warriors, but they werent inocent fragile women either.
Lol, so this "trick" existed even in the old days?
And l am glad that people that did this stuff wee punished, even back then..

oh im sure that trick dates back to africa, lol.

one of the stories was, the woman had a man that loved her other than her husband, and she told him to go away...so...he killed her husband

[ rode acrossed the plains and met him near a swamp. they both got of their horses, the husband had a sword, the other an axe, he swung and missed, the other turned and cought him at the shoulder with his axe, killed him in one blow. rode away and came acrossed a friend of the husbands, threw the penance money at him (money for slaying, funeral costs, lost wadges in farm hands, etc) and told him where the body could be found.]

she married him, then later told her brother he struck her, and the brother killed him

the vikings werent, immature, they were just,,,very quick to act, which is why, lets say for instance, njalls saga is about a 50 year blood fued started over one slaying [another example, Erik the red (Eirik Raudr) once killed a man because he borrowed his shovel and wouldnt give it back]

also you couldnt get a viking to say no to a horse race, often that led to death, by accident, or otherwise.
