Response to: USA gives israel to much suport ? Posted May 29th, 2011 in Politics

The USA gives Israel far too much support. In doing so, the US completely unbalances the balance of power in the Middle East and gives far too much influence to Israel. Why is Israel allowed vast nuclear capabilities but Iran isn't (don't get me wrong, neither should have nukes)? Why is Israel allowed to overreact to every minor security threat and pillage the whole of Gaza when in fact it's a small minority who are idiotically firing rockets?

I fully believe in Israel's right to exist, but the issue here is that America are being too lenient on a country which does not desire peace. $140 billion (2003) in 'aid' to a developed country is absolutely stunning and it's no secret where all that money goes. The amount could be argued during the Cold War, when Russia was funding the other side but now it holds no ground.

In regards to the US supporting a 'democracy', the issue I have is that Arab's hold limited citizenship and they have to agree that Israel is a 'Jewish' country. Not very democratic values, are they? Expansion into occupied territory is illegal in international law, yet we allow it to happen and what does America do to encourage them to stop? Offer them more weapons and military technology of course! It's the Israeli government against a minority of Palestinians, yet unfortunately it's the Palestinians who suffer. Both sides aren't morally above eachother, it's just that Israel has the support of the world's hegemon and are able to inflict substantially more suffering.

What Obama did recently did take some guts, it's just the reply of the Israeli Prime Minister was typical and Obama was spineless in not pushing it. The only way Israel is going to gain peace is through making concessions and the United States can push for peace by not blindly supporting Israel. As Ben-Gurion said, "To get peace, we must return to the pre-1967 borders. Peace is more important than real estate." Perhaps Israel should take heed his advice.

Silent Hill 2 or 3. The one in the mall on 3 where you go to leave and one of the stalls opens. I think that's the reason I'm always cautious in public toilets on games...

Also in regards to the long list of issues Manchester United have, I'll agree we're not perfect. But when Rooney admits his mistake, says he was wrong and apologises that is when I forgave him. Furthermore, I don't give two shits about Ryan Giggs' personal life. He has never actively forged an image of himself being a family guy and all he ever wanted to do was stay out of the limelight. Oh wow, he's a human being, brilliant. Just another reason for this celebrity obsessed country to get at another person. I never gave a shit over Ashley Cole (except when he shot that kid, what a prick) or anyone else that's had an affair and no football fan should. All that matters is that Giggs is one of the best midfielders who has ever played the game and that he continues to play well for as long as he wants.

Oh an the swearing debacle, I'm guessing that Balotelli isn't going to get punished? And what about the multiple times players have sworn at the referee since? Nope, one rule for United, one rule for everyone else. Same with the banning of Toure, who gets to serve a good part of his laughable six month ban when we're not even in the season whilst Ferdinand, who just missed a drugs test and proved two days later he was clean, gets a ridiculous 8 month ban.

And the season was the best in years, whilst none of the top teams played dominantly (except our brilliant home record), we had a rollercoaster ride to our record 19th title and a brilliant stint in Europe which got us our third final in four years. As a United fan, I could not have asked for more. So much for our worst team ever.

I'm gonna say it outright, we were always on the backfoot and we did not deserve to win during the game. I think the weird thing was that I wasn't angry or disappointed, to me that was a very refined performance. I was half expecting us to be cheated out of it, but there was no other excuse other than that we didn't nearly play as well as we could have and Barcelona played superbly. I sat there and applauded Barcelona myself.

No need to feel down, as the old saying goes there's always next season. Considering what we have done this season with the apparent 'worst team ever', I can't wait to see what Ferguson does with the new signings and when Chica gets a full season in the starting line-up. I'm absolutely devastated that Van Der Sar has to leave, but he's leaving on a high note despite the result and to me, he's quite possibly the best keeper we've had (next to Peter Schmeichel).

We'll always keep fighting, cause we're United :)

but anyway, just mentally preparing myself for later.. just wish to remind everyone that writing off United is never a good idea! Today is probably the biggest day of the year for me and I'm more nervous about this than my exams.

Do we deserve to win? I think this would be a fantastic send off for the great Van Der Sar, who would end his career on the high note of not only a Champions League title, but also officially being the greatest keeper in Europe this season. Hernandez, who I've developed a serious man crush on, deserves this because of his fantastic season and how much he has put into the club in his first year. The whole team deserve it and so do the fans.

Of course, that's not enough. We have to put in the effort on the day. Do I think we can? Definitely. We are no pushovers.

How does it feel to be beaten and embrassed by a then League One team at home in the FA Cup? >:)

I'll give it you, but just don't be hoping for anything similar to happen again. I imagine you'll be stuck in the lower leagues a few more seasons before you'll get to play us again ;).

Whilst I'm not too fussed on who comes up, it would be nice to see a Welsh team up. Still I have a friend who's a big Reading fan, so I'm pretty neutral. As long as Leeds are kept out the Prem ;)

I just can't either. Man U or Liverpool I just fail to be able to support as a neutral. Yes Barca are the enemies of football atm but they still do generally play the best football still, forgetting the play acting and seemingly bias UEFA support.

I'm generally not a fan of the whole Tiki Taka playing style where 90% of it is passing side ways and backwards. The only thing I like about Barcelona is when Messi and co can pull something special off, ie his second goal in the first leg of the semis. Definitely talented and no doubt effective, but overall boring to watch. It's like the Blackburn game a a couple of weeks ago when all we were doing is passing it around the defence.

I may well eat those words come Saturday, but we're no pushovers. Especially if we compose ourselves like we did against Chelsea. Stuck a fiver bet on for a 2-1 win, just a bloody shame they're not showing the game on the big screen in Piccadilly (thanks Rangers).

This may be jealousy; it may be that they always win; but most of all it is that they are the best side in the world and yet still feel the need to cheat more than any other side that I have ever seen.

It's frustrating that the most thing I'm worried about is having a player sent off. I don't fear Barcelona, I think we can beat them but after watching all the the El Clasicos recently it's astounding what they can get away with.

I'd be worried if I were Vidic, and Scholes shouldn't be within 100 yards of the pitch.

If Scholesy can pull another one of these out from nowhere, he should play: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6Vx79dbp G8 :3 Makes me wet myself when I watch it :x

And Vidic is (probably) the best centre back in the world right now, I have faith in the back four remaining strong. We certainly won't be like Arsenal.

Well you're either a troll, or you're an ignorant moron. I hope you're the first, for the sake of my sanity.

If this story is true, it'll create huge friction between two already tense countries, with nukes no less. Whether it'll start war is hard to predict but either way it's not exactly going to bring them closer. Pakistan is becoming a cesspit of a nation...

Great finish to the day, though I do feel sorry for Blackpool who have had a terrific season so props to them. But nevertheless, we're champions and we've won it in spectacular circumstances through a solid home form. Pretty surprised that Birmingham have gone down and that Wolves and Wigan have stayed up. After going 3-0 down by half time, I thought they would have no chance. Props to Mick.

Also Ancelotti has been sacked. Chelsea absolutely astound me sometimes.

Response to: The Alternative Vote Posted May 6th, 2011 in Politics

Just some final thoughts on the referendum and the elections:

I'm relatively disheartened that the no vote won by such an overwhelming amount, considering that AV had a long period in front at the beginning of the coalition. I believe the result was a combination of many things, the slanderous 'No' campaign being one of them, as well as having the backing of the Murdochian media. But overall, it seems that we're just not ready to take the step towards democracy. The turnout has been surprising to say the least, especially in England.

Congratulations to the SNP on gaining a majority in Scotland, a victory probably showing discontent at Labour's leadership, LibDem's backstabbing and the Conservatives being the Conservatives. I'm not convinced that it's a move towards independence, but it's certainly a convincing victory for the party. The fact that the Conservatives gained councils in England suggest that it is the Liberal Democrats who are taking all the blame for the coalition; I can see this being the beginning of the end for the coalition, lest the Liberal Democrats sink into nothingness.

Response to: The Alternative Vote Posted May 5th, 2011 in Politics

I've just cast my vote then found out over 90 voters in Stockport were given the wrong ballet paper... great to see we can still run an efficient election without hitch!

I know the polls are against the yes vote but that's reliant on a 100% turnout, which is doubtful to happen. I went to vote around 5 - 6ish and saw absolutely no one else at my polling station, which was pretty busy during the General Election. I imagine in England we won't notch up more than 30-something% turnout. But let's hope for a yes outcome!

This is war and shit happens, bin laden shouldn't have attacked us and not every plan goes accordingly 100% of the time. Please spare the "what about the families in afgan?" question. War knows no friend or foe whether the US miltary is involved or not. So accept the realization of this and let people who had their lives corrupted by this man celebrate the death of a sick man.

Wait, so you believe that 9/11 was just a result of war and that these things happen? Either way, I don't see how the hell you can justify tens of thousands of dead innocents by saying "war knows no friend or foe", especially when we're going in there to fight 'evil'. And I think that killing Bin Laden to provide closure is self defeating when you see that the invasion has torn many more peoples lives in a country a fraction of the size of America.

YEAH I AGREE WITH THIS GUY. I DON'T AGREE WITH YOU SO SHUT UP! YOU'RE WRONG.

I ask you sir, what about the families of the thousands who have died in Afghanistan who have suffered at the hands of the US/UK invasion? Careless planning has meant that we're committing war crimes against innocents who we're supposed to be bringing under our wing of democracy. The death of Bin Laden only brings a symbolic victory to the American's, but a victory that has come at a cost to those who we've invaded. Perhaps we should shoot Bush and Blair to make it up to them?

But either way, shut up with your AGREE WITH ME YOU FUCKERS view, it's boring to listen to.
