Great signing, great potential. Now we just need a central, creative midfielder and we're sorted for the next few seasons.

but yeah, I never backpedaled, I stand by what I said. The Falklands war and the continuing argument is over silly nationalistic purposes.

Political power flows from the barrel of a gun.

That last quip of yours is quite pathetic.

Of course it does, but it doesn't mean that it's not pathetic. Declaring war for nationalistic purposes is silly, as are many other reasons for war. My quip therefore, is not pathetic (unless you take my failed attempt at humour seriously).

Not really, we want Malvinas because they're righfully ours, or so we are told. I think it's the last unresolved issue of our sovereignty. They were unlawfully (ie, through force) taken from us in 1833 and have remained in British control ever since. The Malvinas march is from the first half of the 20th century, and the war from 1982, way before any oil was discovered. It's a national pride issue, and boy are we a proud nation. Borges described the war as "the struggle of two bald men over a comb", and it was used as an example of irrational behavior in my (American) microeconomics textbook.

And about the "natives", they are the descendants of the British invaders, of course they are going to choose Britain over Argentina. They're pathetic, Britain didn't consider them equals until the 1982 invasion.

So, in other words, your only claim to the Falklands is a nationalist pride thing? Because you (sort of) lost them centuries ago? That's absolutely hilarious. You can't toy with the lives of 3,000 people just because you're insecure about your national identity. It's an island of people who don't want you on their island. They've owned it for generations; why can't Argentina accept that and move on with their lives? We've always maintained it's up to the islanders and it's not part of some British feeling to maintain the last remnants of the empire.

I'd say that trying to impose rule on these people is more pathetic than the people themselves... Using huge military force just to compensate for Argentina's political penis size is pathetic.

Response to: Falklands - What, again? Posted June 27th, 2011 in Politics

How about 60 billion barrels of oil underneath its coastal waters. And last year the British company Rockhopper started drilling for said oil, prompting an "oh shit" response from Argentina. I do have to remark here that I find it funny how having 3,000 shepherds on a bunch of desolate islands can grant you exclusive access to enormous loads of natural resources. But hey, that's how the world turns, I guess. Anyway, if Britain really doesn't want to risk a military conflict over the islands, maybe they could try to work some sort of deal with the Argentineans for shared drilling.

Those 3.000 people have populated the island for centuries. I don't think oil is enough reason to exploit their sovereignty and their right for self-determination. The UK does not need to work any deal over with Argentina. They have as much right to the island as bloody Thailand.

Yeah, this is a huge huge gamble for chelski. Considering they're having to pay 15m euros just to get the manager out of his former club, not to mention they'll probably be bringing in Falcao. If all this fails, it's going to be another few million down the drain. Neither have played or managed in England and Villas-Boas has never managed outside of Portugal.

I can't wait for it to happen :3

I would actually seriously love to hear you justify fighting Britain over it. Go on, I'd love to hear this.

Response to: Falklands - What, again? Posted June 18th, 2011 in Politics

Argentina are complete and utter morons if they think they hold any right to the Falklands. I'm not saying this from some crazy British patriotic view, but rather from the view that the occupants of the islands do not and never will want to be part of the Argentinian state (except for one guy lol). How in the hell can they claim the islands when there's not a single Argentine in the Falklands and there never has been.

And now it seems America is still utilising the Monroe Doctrine and is siding with the completely illogical side, whilst alienating a key ally in the process. Generally, I believe it's not America's right to interfere with things like this anyway, but this is just ridiculous.

Perhaps if we did what we did with Gibraltar and just gave them a referendum that abides by the democratic process (and will undoubtedly side with the UK), then that might stop the Argentinians from whining over territory that was never theirs. May also stop the murrikans from doubting British sovereignty.

I think you might be a bit late on that one mate.

Thing is, the military aid also goes towards offensive operations which do nothing to help the situation in the Middle East, so it's not solely for defence.

For stability in the region, America either has to arm the other side or stop arming Israel (and sort out their Nuke issue). Otherwise the Middle East is destined to remain a realist's nightmare.

Doesn´t have to be the case. Most expensive doesn´t have to mean that it is the best.

It's not the expense that could make it the top university in the country, it's the fact that it can attract some of the best academics and offer more direct teaching.

Of course, at £18,000 a year, it's not exactly gonna enhance social mobility. It'll just create another Eton class who'll become the next Conservative front bench.

So what d'yall think about the transfer window? Who goes where etc? Say who you want at your club and whatnot...

I hope we get in Modric, or wishful thinking, Sneijder. Either of them would be a great buy and would slot perfectly in our midfield (where we desperately need strengthening). Young seems likely to come in, who has been great at Villa. De Gea, I haven't seen much of myself but I trust the boss and I hear he's very much a VDS type of player.

Exciting couple of months ahoy.

Hamas bombs Israel from densely populated places on purpose so when Israel bombs back, they will end up killing Innocent people. They do this to make Israel look bad in front of the world. So far they are doing a good job because so many people are stupid and will believe whatever they hear.

Can you please point out the parts where I need to be educated on? I would love to hear this. I never stated that Israel didn't target innocents on purpose. But how in the hell is Israel doing a good job, especially considering that it has to restrict rights of her Arab population, murder innocent civilians (which puts Israel in the same line of morality as the terrorists) and be so stubborn on peace?

If you really think that they're handling the situation over Palestine perfectly fine, then you are completely delusional and really really need to be educated. Do not consult Israel or Palestinian sourced news sites for fair coverage, you dingbat.

It's been a sad day...I knew it was coming, but I really can't believe he's retired. He could have played for a few more seasons and still be one of the best. Some of the passes he did to the wing last season were jaw dropping... he's so accurate, so complete and so god damn beautiful. Definitely one of if not the best player of his generation. His goals stick in my mind more than any other players.. Barcelona, Aston Villa and so on. He'll be seriously missed. I'm just glad he's staying on in a coaching role. I also hope his Testimonials before the end of August, so I can go...

HE SCORES GOALS GALORE! HE SCORES GOALS!

In regards to FIFA, I'm not too arsed over the World Cup thing cause I don't care if we get it or not. We have a shite and unsupportable national team so I don't think we deserve it. But nevertheless, I care for the global image of football and the obvious anti-Premier League stance Blatter has. Not to mention Blatter is the most corrupt and cuntish guy in the world of football who loves La Liga far too much.

I love football, I just really hate Blatter.
