Response to: Israel Moves into Gaza Posted June 28th, 2006 in Politics

Olmert apparently has to prove he's hard on terrorism even though he has little experience commanding the armed forces. Even the US called for Israel to not send in the troops this early since this measure will only put more pressure on the negotiation process and the Egyptian mediation. It wouldn't even be that unreasonable for Israel to release the probably 300-500 (these plus these) Palestinian children in Israeli prisons - maybe a few of the women too, depending on the individual cases

The kidnapping was too provocative and it taints the recent agreement Fatah and Hamas had signed to reduce the quarreling between members of their factions, but there's not much else the Palestinians can do about Israeli Human Right violations like the fact that 794 out of the 8,238 Palestinians in Israeli jails are in "administrative detention " and that it depends on the benevolence of the IDF and the IPS whether or not they will receive a fair trial. They could probably write an angry letter just to enable Olmert to wipe his ass with it, or they could request aid from the international community so that they can write the angry letter for them, which would eventually result in the same scenario.

In this case kidnapping will have the same results as complaining, nothing to be exact, but at least the problems are in the international spotlight again I guess. The only way to end the horrible treatment of Palestinian citizens by the Israeli government would be by using the same means that helped South Africa end the apartheid, through international sanctions and divestment, and these are never going to be put in place if the problem is being forgotten.

Yes. They'd cheer, they'd dance, they'd light the fireworks. All this commotion is just part of one big plot with the final goal of bringing Israel down. Once again I'm amazed by your incredible perceptive skills.

Zidane did a good job finishing that last goal but I especially loved how Henry went down holding his face when Puyol hit him in the chest with his elbow. Henry was also offside half the time and looked like he wasn't paying attention, at all. Henry's golden days seem to be over, Zidane is also past his summit but he's still dangerous.

I hope Brazil flunks the next match by the way. I'd rather see France taking them down than Brazil winning another World Cup.

Brandes had insisted that Meiwes would bite his penis off, but this did not work, so Meiwes used at first a knife that turned out to be too blunt, and then a sharper knife to finally slice the penis off. Brandes apparently tried to eat his share of his own penis rare, but could not because it was too tough and as he put it, "chewy". Meiwes then sautéed the penis in a pan with salt, pepper and garlic.

The video is apparently so disturbing that many of those who saw it sought psychological counseling.

At 6/26/06 07:05 PM, Wyrlum wrote: What about terrorists using them? The problem with that argument is that Saddam using WMD was never a major reason for invading. We invaded to keep them out of the hands of terrorists.

Pakistan's nuclear weapons might also fall into the hands of terrorists, yet that's no reason to invade them. You invade them when it's proven that they supply WMD to terrorists. Saddam's link to al-Qaeda was not proven at the time of the invasion which retrospectively speaking was not that much of a surprise as the only meeting between al-Qaeda and one or a few of Saddam's officers resulted in nothing more than agreement about their "general hatred for America". This was also somewhat predictable since their ideologies can be found on two opposing sides of the political spectrum. As far as I know Saddam handed out grants to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers, but I don't believe he directly funded terrorists or supplied them with weapons, let alone WMD.

I think most terrorist groups wouldn't even want these mustard gas shells. Example:
"According to Colonel Dr. Jiri Kassa, who heads the Czech Defense University Toxicology Department, the essential obstacle to using such a gas lies in the difficulty of disseminating the agent. "The best means of disseminating Yperite or nerve gases is through air-conditioning, by a sprinkler system from a plane, or through water," Kassa said. "Fortunately, terrorists face great difficulties in accessing all of these means of dispersion.""

Saddam's shells were from before 1993 which means they were probably 150mm artillery shells which means that you need at least a howitzer or a super heavy cannon to fire it. These weapons were intended to be used in extensive air strikes or artillery bombardments - the enormous amount of the chemical agents dropped would have to negate the problems of dissemination. If you blow yourself up in your van carrying a few of these shells (if you get it past security - which in the case of Israel for example would be quite a task) most people will be fine as long as they keep some distance from the site of the blast, and even if they're exposed to the agent they only have a 3% chance of dying (earlier source).

It's not very awkward that terrorists have never used mustard gas before, it's too hard for them to use it appropriately. Money spent on a shell (about 40 kg for the shell and 4.4 kg for it's contents) could have been better spent on 45 kg of explosives.

You're linking to an early 2003 source. Read this and this for more recent developments, as your "mobile biological weapon facilities" were most likely used to generate hydrogen for weather balloons. Get over it, there were no chemical weapons except the antiquated sarin and mustard gas shells that Saddam couldn't account for prior to the invasion. The Halabja incident involved thousands of tons of mustard gas, fourteen sorties with seven to eight planes per sortie in one night. Saddam's stock of mustard gas was maybe eighty tons at the very most, those are hardly Weapons of Mass Destruction. And if Saddam intended to actually use them, then why didn't he when his country was being invaded?

Iraq posed no significant threat to it's neighbours, let alone the mainland USA and that is very, very old news. I can't believe people are still claiming the opposite. The local cryonics facility must have mistakenly taken a few people out of their stases.

Response to: Woah!!! Posted June 26th, 2006 in General

Every positive two digit number can be written in the form of a*10 + b with a and b being one digit positive integers. For example, 95 can be written as 9*10 + 5, meaning that a = 9 and b = 5. So pick a random a and b. They ask you to subtract a + b from the original number, so the result is (10a + b) - (a + b) = 9a. So the result has to be divisible by 9. And all numbers that are divisible by 9 have the same symbol, so he's by default correct.

This doesn't just hold for two digit positive integers though. You can take any random positive integer, subtract the sum of the individual numbers in the integer and you'll end up with an integer which is divisible by nine. For example, 293451067 - (2 + 9 + 3 + 4+ 5 + 1 + 0 +6 + 7) = 293451067 - 37 = 293451030.
293451030 / 9 = 32605670 so this number is also divisible by nine.

It's old.

I'll admit that when I read your first post I thought: "Dude, the other topic was still active, why the hell do we need an almost exact copy? 'Bad' things, the 'worst' things, it doesn't matter. People will give about the same responses anyway." But I realised that the old thread didn't really allow debate since it's already very obvious what the worst thing is that humans have ever done: allowing Michael Jackson to procreate. Nay, allowing Michael Jackson to have a baby with a surrogate mother and then allowing him to refer to it as "Blanket". When the Annunaki invade us in a couple of years that'll be the first thing we're going to pay for.

Haha, I never really cared about these "Nation vs. Nation" threads but this one is special since a Frenchman is playing the role of the defender. I'll admit, I hated the French when I was a kid because I perceived the entire people as being haughty and arrogant. The arrogance probably never changed but my respect for France and it's history increased every single time I watched some Anglosaxon drone take a cheap jab at France and it's people just to please the crowd and be a contributing member of the hate group, which was a pretty safe thing to do since there were hardly any French Newgrounds users to begin with. But now, a Frenchman decided to strike back, and I couldn't be happier. My respect for France has at least doubled thanks to this thread, congratulations.

Explain why Hamas stuck to a one-sided truce for 15 months if they're so focused on their holy war against the infidels. Explain why they called for the release of two French journalists in Iraq if they hate everyone who doesn't agree with their religious convictions. And the PLO isn't even mildly religious, the Fatah is a nationalist movement and a few other factions like the PFLP and the DFLP are communist. If you're looking for extremely religious terrorists it would be more appropriate to mention a Kahanist movement like Kach or Kahane Chai.

In the end a general rule of thumb is that when a certain ideologically motivated group turns to violence one calls them terrorists when he disagrees with them, and if he sympathises then he could call them freedom fighters or noble revolutionaries.

Okay, the four posts per 30 minutes limit is over so I can link to this:

"Simic and Emerton were both dismissed for two bookable offences in the final 10 minutes, while Simunic, who received a second caution, was mistakenly not shown a red by referee Poll.

To add to the drama, Cahill had a goal disallowed as Poll had already blown for full time and as Simunic complained, the referee handed him his third yellow of the match and an overdue red card. "

I don't know whether or not the BBC is infallable when it comes to football but their conclusions correspond with what I saw on the telly. So I'm inclined to follow them.

Okay, I'm not really in my element but here's a final correction. Simunic got a second yellow, I saw in the bottom of the screen that he got two yellow cards but the ref forgot to send him off. At the end of the match he got a third yellow card and after that the red card he deserved. So I was wrong in saying that is was a 9-10 but I was right in my observation that it was raining red cards.

And I pray that this post is finally factually correct.

No it is not. Simic got the red when the match ended.

Actually, there were two un-judged penalls for Australia.

Thomas played with the hand once again (in the second half) and Tudor was rampaging in the first half.

Anyway, I seems to me that the defense is playing the race card a little early. I mean, the woman who was mentioned in the article had a relationship with the alleged rapist, why would she have done that when she is a raging white supremacist? Not every time when three white women press charges against a black man it's blatant racism, even if their claims are unsubstantiated.
