Be a Supporter!
Taliban and Afgan's women Posted October 20th, 2001 in Politics

Because it is very hard to get a non-slanted view from very typical news orgainizations I was wondering if anyone could explain to me how anyone can support bin Laden and the Taliban gov't?

I understand where the resentment that many of these people have for the US comes from, such as our occupation of Mecca merely to support our oil interest and basicly our abuse of our power but I still would like perhaps a greater reasoning behind bin Laden's reasoning for 'jihad'.

And does anyone know about where I can find more information on Afgan's women and what kind of movement that they may have going inside the country?

This is what happens when the school districs are forced to "streamline" the students.

Remember back when children of different learning capabilities were put into different classes? They had Gifted, Regular, and classes for those that needed some extra help. Now what they have had to do out of political correctness is make all the classes (mainly in elementry and middle schools) Regular. There is nothing wrong with any of these groups but contrary to the politically correct thought, all these class levels are needed and important.

Now we are putting tremndous pressure on the kids that have learning disabilities and boring the living crap out of the fast learners. So only about a third of the school isn't frustrated...that and we are concentrating more on testing as a form of proof of scholastic results instead of actually taking the time to look at what the child has done and giving them individual reviews.

We are all part of the problem, whether it be parents that have kids as though they are another accessory to their house, or a complete lack of funds towards teachers thus making their only job satisfaction being those few kids a year that actually try, or what seems to be the worst part is society as a whole always pointing fingers somewhere instead of all of us taking responsibility for the results of what we produce.

Our children are nothing but a product of society.

The problem that you run into when arguing abortion is when does the fetus become a human?

And for those that rely on the "abortion is murder" does that meant that a "miscarraige is manslaughter"?

If a pregnant woman is in a car wreck and has a miscarraige now it is considered 2nd or 3rd degree murder.. This elevates the status of an embryo to basicly citizen status with legal rights.

The problem runs into, lets say she is an active person who likes to run. She goes for a run and causes herself to miscarraige (yes it does happen) or does something else that causes it, is it involuntary manslaughter? What if she doesn't even know shes preganant?

Personally, I think this is one area where the gov't should keep their nose out and let it continue to be the moral descision that it always has been. Would I ever do it, I can't say......but I would certainly never take the reproductive rights of another away.

Response to: Al Gore Posted June 17th, 2001 in Politics

I'm all for the voting for who you want instead of picking the lesser of 2 evils.

The problem with Gore wasn't so much that he is a boring person; he's simply not a great orator(sp?) or communicator. He may yes, fully qualify to be president (and by far more then Bush does) but what this country really needs right now is a leader which inspires patriotism and respect to the office.

unfortunatly, voter apathy is ripping this country apart and unsettling the foundation of a representative government. To everyone who thinks that they are making a statement by not voting (if they are fully eligible) they need to understand that all they are doing is saying that their opinions don't matter.

And if you don't vote, no, they are not going to matter.

Thank god that thing didn't pass.

It was a nice idea on paper and for good press, but it wouldn't have worked.

The biggest problem that I had with it was how much these vouchers were going to be worth, only about 2000-3000 dollars. I hate to break it to the government but private school cost between 6500-10,000 a year and thats not including supplies or transportation.

No "low-income" parent would be able to afford the difference, so the only kids that would actually get to use the voucher are the kids that are getting bussed from rich neighborhoods to shitty schools. They need to take the emphasis off testing (they have gotten way out of hand) and actually look at real progress, like grade increases. A test is just that, if you suck at multiple choice test, then you are screwed. And I remember, I was in the class of 2000 and we were the pilot class. The first test that they gave us had horrible errors in the answer keys, and at that on the test (none of the answers were right)

How do we correct this? Simple. Make the prisons really shitty. Do away with these stupid, supertough drug laws, and make prison hell on earth. Criminals don't mind going to the gray bar hotel when they know they'll have TV, and boxing matches, and trash novels, and cigarettes, and jack-off magazines, and hot food waiting for them. Prison should suck. Cells should be 8X10, the only exercise should be hard labor, there should not be any forms of entertainment, and the food should be even worse than it is. See how much the crime rate drops after that. My take is, no one will think that crime is worth prison.

We used to have prisons that were like that, only problem is that the courts deemed that it was cruel and unusual punishmnent. And in other countries the prisons are like that, you know what happens, prison riots. Guards and inmates kill each other, I think even at some point in time the criminals held the prison hostage.

:And in response to the Oklahoma bombing and terrorism, how come the US still finds it necessary to fund a shitty terrorist group like the IRA, whose idea of a party is to blow up innocent people?

I'm with you on that, I don't think that the US has any right to go around terrorizing anyone who is innocent, be they here at home or abroad.

Secondly I have a spray bottle filled with water. Spray it on your arms and face and any other exposed skin that will get the breeze of the fan, it really helps.

Then why is it that in countries where taxes are much higher they dont have as many TV incidences as we do here in america?

Also, a lot of parents dont know what a budget is nor how to stay within one. The reason 2 parents have to work 40 hours a week is not the high cost of living but, the expectation that the parents have for living.

Or the parents have a huge amount of debt that they are trying to fix, but either way its usually their fault.

I live near a lot of these mothers that want to have it all, a great career, a perfect house, and 3 or 4 kids. I hate to tell them this, but somewhere they are going to have to give, and their kids are not the ones that they should be giving up on.

How is he still a threat to national security in a max-security prison?

If they are still alive there is still always a chance for an escape or for someone like that to get in contact with their allies.

I just can't justify allowing a terrorist to live.

Response to: The Death Penalty Posted June 10th, 2001 in Politics

The only time that I can see our government the OK on killing someone else is when we have someone who is actually a proven (not just from some other country that they NSC doesnt like) terrorist and the possibility of them living is a threat to national security. As in Timothy McVeigh or the head of some other radical group like the guy that was going to have nerve gas pumped into the NY subway system.

Any other time, I have a very difficult time with our government saying that it is OK to kill another human being.

Response to: Smoking Posted June 10th, 2001 in Politics

The only place that I can see them having any form of a case is if this person smoked during the time that cigarettes were actually reported as harmless. They were endorsed by our own military.

But if they continued to smoke after the realities of what smoking did to them came to light, i dont think that they should have any case.

Do I think that they deserve any settlement that amounts to something like that, certainly not. But, the probability of him actually getting that amount is almost zero. Im sure it will be brought down in court. Out of all the tabacco cases that have had settlements like this only one has actually been paid.

Ok, I know you are really really tempted to dye it to some other color right away, but dont.

(you are going to hate what I have to say)

Leave your hair alone for about the next month, the kind of bleaching that you did to your hair has stripped it to the point that if you dye it too soon the chemicals in the dye *may* actually break your hair at the roots and then will come out in clumps(this actually happened to a friend of mine).

But if you can't live with it that long, here is what you should do. For one, whatever color you want your hair to come out as, buy the next lightest color (your recently dyed hair is very porous and your hair is going to absorb more dye then normally expected. Also try going for a semi-permanent colorant; they are much easier on your tresses.

Then when you begin to dye it, start at the hair about 1 inch from your roots and work it to the ends of your hair. Now, you can put it on your roots. And something you should really do is try a strand test to see your dye time since yours will be kinda screwy.

(can you tell that I have done this before?)

Or drilling in Alaska can be. Unlike the pristine image you've been given, the area proposed is actually PERMAFROST. i.e. NO PLANTS, NO ANIMALS, NO WATER, NO NOTHING.

Yes *most* of the time it is permafrost but during the summer, those pesky native elk and birds come to use their breeding grounds in the spring. But bah! they need no place to spawn right?

And if it is perma-frost, their is water there.

The fact that what is funny is that drilling for oil in Alaska won't affect us now, or even in the near future. It will take 10 years to actually affect the economy.

It will never help the California energy crisis; that was simply poor deregulation.

Their is no shortage of oil, only a shortage of people that are willing to *heaven forbid* use a little less. Like perhaps buying a car that is fuel-efficient. Seeing as how car fuel-efficiency is at a 20 year low, I blame the consumers of the cars that need so much oil. But Americans are far too in love with their SUV's to do that.
