How is it done? Is there another synth (higher) synth playing on top of the bass?
How do i replicate it?

I really wish I knew how to read music.
though
the note is the same if you call it Db C# or "that black key between C and D"
these guys are going to "Gbb" that basically is F lol
just because I saw this brought up
When I'm not playing C major or A minor (all white keys), I usually transpose the notes mentally.
Let's say I'm playing D minor. When I play a F i'm playing a C in A minor (mentally)
I don't know why but this helps. but that's probably because when I was first learning the keyboard I always used C maj or A minor
Good luck everybody just wanted to share my hopinions

I agree with you, but without labels there would be even more confusion. People would start calling the music locally. For example: "Hey, did you hear the songs at LOCAL X?" "Yeah, LOCAL X rocks, its song are the best"
Then people will start to register LOCAL X tracks and putting them on CD, making compilation like "LOCAL X TRAXX" or something. That was what happened at the start of '90 here. Saturday people would just go to the same locals over and over while each time new Djs and new songs/fresh ideas were played.
So, if labels weren't real, to answer your question, someone else or people themselves would find a way to label each song/genre. I do agree with you though: genres are mostly pointless for us, they are needed for obvious purposes only to discographic productors and companies

Ah, strange you didn't post Children, that track made the dream progressive genre explodes in Italy
The father of that "genre" let's call it genre, is Roland Brant, check out Nuclear Sun (one of the first songs played in the locals with that M1 piano, dated NINETY THREE! 93!), Moon's Waterfalls and such hits (probably I'm the only one here to know them lol)
The others you posted are uplifting trance (Airwave for sure) and with more "mainstream" sounds (attention: mainstream doesn't mean worse), when trance was going out from the underground going for a bigger public. Enjoyable and nice songs for sure :D
I think it's pretty subjective for anyone to say "blah blah blah was better back then" I mean some kid born 9 years ago will probably say the same thing later on in life. I do agree with you though :)
Yes, everything is pretty subjective so we can just express ourselves ;)
Are you aware that Ishkur made that guide for fun, right?
The chart is ok but there are so many subgenres today that it became really ridicoulus classifying a song

The program is the last thing you need
Do you have some basis of music theory?
How music works?
What genre do you like?
What music do you listen to?
What is a bass?
What is the natural minor scale?
How do you make the notes sliding (portamento)?
Have you an idea of what is the mixing process?
And what about the mastering of a track/album/extended play?
Do you know acoustics?
Do you have a studio and good headphones/speakers/studio monitors?
Do you have a MIDI keyboard or some MIDI devices?
Have you ever played an instrument?
And I'm probably forgetting 90% of the other things
The problem is: you're using an Apple product
DO YOU REMEMBER THE GUY WHO QUIT?
ME NEITHER.

Lol this was helpful
except ionian and aeolian (that should be major and minor, let's say C major and A minor so all the white keys) there are the other modes, like Dorian starts on D and has all the white keys.
btw, at least for me, it's fucking hard to play a D dorian scale like D-E...-back to D having the D as a tonic note, the ear doesn't recognize it as a tonic note, it's not like when I'm playing the C it want to resolve to D. but maybe I'm doing something wrong
the Locrian mode is even harder because the I CHORD is a dim chord
well fuck modes no one uses them anyway
inb4 theory jerks kill me

As for IRL, I don't...
why you changed avatar man.
btw on topic - if you make good music you won't need a lot of promotion, eventually word will spread etc etc. but remember you can't go on an EDM forum/place and post a classical piece.

i agree with you but it also depends on the song
At 7/20/13 09:03 PM, MetalRenard wrote: but you should know by now that it's absolutely possible to get by without learning the intricacies of musical theory.
this makes no sense at all. i mean:
if one try to "compose music" without theory there are two ways:
a) he succeeds and that's good, he has good ear/experience/intuition/whatever the hell
b) he doesn't succeed, and wander: "WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? MY BEATZ SUCK"
so, i think you should study some basics to avoid stupid situations. some people need study some others already know etc etc
you see some improvement after studying? cool, keep studying =)=)
