Topic: Fake Video Game Acheivements.

Posted: 10/04/08 08:58 PM

Forum: Video Games

I couldn't find it on the search, but I know it's been done at least one hundred times before. Whatever.

Subject is simple; take a video game that has no achievements and make some up for it, or make a ridiculous acheivement that doesn't exist for a game with an acheivement system.

Examples:

Mario Kart Wii:

Launch and Reentry: On Rainbow Road, perform a half pipe jump and fall off the track.

Take That, Losers: Racing as Wario, go from last place to first place and win the race, all in the course of twenty seconds or less.

Have a Rotten Day: As Wario, laugh at all of the other racers during the course of an online race.

This is Mario Kart, not F-Zero: In a Grand Prix or online race, knock another racer off the track by bumping into them.

One Small Slip, One Failed Leap: Hit another racer with a banana peel to prevent them from leaping off of a boost ramp.

Stalker on Speed: Obtain turbos by trailing other racers three times, each within ten seconds of another.

Snake? Snake! SNAAAAAAKKEE: Perform three drift mini-turbos in fifteen seconds. (This wouldn't be very hard in the DS version, but the Wii version uses time drifting instead of the D-pad thingy)

Jumpman: Avoid a POW Block's hit by jumping off a half pipe or a ramp.

Aerial Assualt: Hit another racer with a red or green shell within less than ten seconds of being shot out of a "cannon" and stopping (time starts as flight stops)

Flak Cannon: Hit another racer with a blue shell while they are in midair.

You Drive on the Left Lane in Japan: Be hit by ten cars while racing on Moonview Highway.

Alternate Route: Finish a race driving backwards. (I think you can drive backwards, I've never needed to.)

Row Row, Fight the Power: Maintain first place while being slowed down by terrain that slows you down.

Drive By: Driving the wrong way, blow up a racer with a Bob-Omb within three seconds of them passing you.

Rear-End Plan: In first place, when another racer passes you, hit them with a green shell within four seconds of them passing you.

Exploding From the Jaws of Victory: Win a race by blowing up the first place racer with a Bob-Omb, then winning the race within ten seconds of doing so.

True, but the problem can be eliminated if you just turn off the flash (obviously) and focus the camera where there's no or little glare or reflection, which can be rather simple with digital cameras.

Also, my cat.

I consider a great shot a picture where I can see enough detail to pick out every single hair in the light. I had to lower the quality some for NG limits, though.

I'd love to catch a fish jumping out of water on camera, I've tried many times (i have around 20-30 japanese coi, some over 1.5ft long and older than me! (20 year old fish! lol)) but never got the shot :(.

That would be hard, since not only does it require waiting, but one would also need a good enough camera or steady hand, and split second timing to get a clear shot of motion.

This crab, however, was one of theose kinds of animals that don't care about anything and mostly just sit around, so I was able to get a great shot of him.

The lighting of the tank also helped the effect.

Harder than it looks, that's for friggin' sure.

Animals obviously aren't like humans, and although it's not too hard to find ones that beg for attention and pose for the shot, it's difficult to get the ones that either don't want a picture or don't care. And those are usually the ones I want to get shots of.

Example? This pirahna. I have tons of better shots of fish, but the pirahnas didn't want to hold their asses still. This is the best shot I got, and it's still rather blurry. It was still for, like, a second.

Well, I always draw with a mechanical pencil. I don't have quite the patience to sharpen my pencil over just clicking the mechanical one.

The picture's actaully about an inch shorter than the pencil itself, but yeah. Drawing bigger helps with that kind of thing.

The drawings that will be shown here actually are contained in a sketchbook, if you need useless knowledge.

Also, that sketchbook is falling apart like an asshole. I carry it with me everywhere, so that might be the reason.

These are not going to be in any order.

Anyway, this first one is a concept for a sort of cover art. I'm too lazy to explain the story, but this particular design was inspired by a drawing made by a friend.

The entire thing has more of the picture, but I'd have to go back and take another pic.

The lighting's been messed with in photoshop, because I have to take these with a camera, and that means the thing would be lighter, darker in some places, and sort of fucked.

You know that exploit that allows people to shoot through the gates before a match at a person standing close to the gate?

It's been fixed, right?

Well, it hasn't. I was playing on Badwater, and a pyro and I were engaged in a taunting match, when another pyro came over and shot his flamethrower at me. The gates were closed, but I caught fire, and had to run for a health pack ten seconds before the game began.

I'm guessing it's something to do with Badwater. I haven't sent any error report yet, because it's only happened once, but I'm rather confused. The gate keeps the flamethrower from firing if you're right up against it. Maybe running towards the gate and firing produces the penetration?

You have to get about ten of them on the sentry.

I was playing Steel, and my team was now doing BLU, so we all agreed to have a supported Scout rush (A couple of pyros, an engie, maybe, everything else is scouts) and flood E. While the other team had set up and was ready on A, we burst out towards E.

A lonely Engineer and his sentry were on B, on the way, so we rushed him and I, one of probably twelve scouts, saw the sentry disappear in a storm of scattergun shots. It was beautiful.

And then we capped E with around 6 scouts on it, we lost a few, maybe, but they probably were just clusterfucking everything that came in.

A heavy came out and hid in the corner as we won. Everybody else ignored him, but I ruined his shit. So cheap, but satisfying.

So that pep rally was boring and shitty like every other pep rally I've been to. That would've been funny as hell. I know what pep rallies are for, but I don't see why I have to go to them.

Also, for the case of people when they get grappled (when their attacker has no weapon but their body). Why don't they just headbutt them? Are they afraid to ruin their facelift? I mean, come on. Common sense should dictate that if you can't use your arms or legs, then you use your head. Figuratively and literally. The head is full of weapons- skull, teeth, hair, forehead... instead the stupid movie bitches just scream for help like they can't do anything. Grow some balls, hostages.

I just finished watching Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and I have to say,

SPOILERS AHEAD

SPOILERS AHEAD

SPOILERS AHEAD

SPOILERS AHEAD

SPOILERS AHEAD

It shares a trait with one of my favorite novel series, Warriors, in that everybody fuckin' dies. Honestly, the slaughter of main characters is huge.

Kamina, I can understand. His kicking the bucket was necessary for Simon's character growth where he goes through an episode-long period of being a complete frickin' idiot, but then all the Brigade members start offing themselves with seemingly no impact. At least Kittan went out with a bang.

And then Niya dissolves to nothing. That's really miserable.

In all actualality, the mass death is part of what makes Gurren Lagann great, but I sympathize too much with characters. Going through all sorts of shit to rescue your beloved only to get married to her and watch her dissolve to nothing is really sad.

END SPOILERS

END SPOILERS

Although, now that I'm through with Gurren Lagann, I don't know what to watch next.

I haven't been on for quite a while for the following reasons-

A- I've been moving into an actual house.
B- My primary computer just fried, because the techies didn't fix the actual problem.
C- The Cable company is busy as hell, so the internet connection can't be set up in the house until around September 2nd.

Then why am I posting? I'm on through another person's unsecured wireless. Lucky me.

At 8/15/08 07:38 PM, Psycho-Simple wrote: Is it just me, or could the Heavy main weapon be much better than the slow people down at the expensive of damage.

It depends on your play style. As the site said, a heavy with Natascha going 1on1 against another heavy with regular Sasha will likely lose.

However, any hit will slow an opponent down, meaning it's that much harder for them to get away and avoid being swiss cheesed cubed.

Also, what does everybody think other class updates will be?

I think that for the engineer, instead of the shotgun, he could have the gravity gun as an unlockable. After all, isn't he an inventor? Maybe the portal gun for getting sentries into ridiculous or awesome places.

However, the portal gun could only have the engineer who created its portal pass through. Could cancel construction of teleporters as a trade off.

The gravity gun could move structures, but also be used to fling corpses or bits of people, or to hurl stickies back at demos. No rockets, as they are propelled, but it'd be a good counter against demomen if it can be mastered.

For the spy, the tranquilizer gun is obvious, considering the new slow-down effect. He could also have a super-disguise kit that allowshim to pass through enemies, but reduces his cloak time by half and is removed if the spy is hit with a critical.

Also, he could have a cloaked sapper, which doesn't alert engineers to its presence, but deactivates the structure. The tradeoff would be that it takes much longer for it to cause damage, maybe not causing damage at all.

As a replacement for the knife...I really don't know. Maybe a knife that requires two stabs to kill somebody from behind, but can be used while cloaked, decloaking while performing the initial stab, and if it doesn't hit anything, the spy stays cloaked.
