COD4: What is there to say? I play CS:S quite frequently and as far as I'm concerned this is a pretty decent game, I'd like to try mw2 for the same reasons.

Modern Warfare 2: read above^^

Starcraft 2: I'm pretty slow at massing huge ass armies but this looks like it will be a great game. Several delays just to balance the three races, Blizzard knows what they're doing.

And before I get any of these games I'll need a new computer as the one I have now can hardly even run CS:S at 30fps.

This sounds like a plan here. 60$ seems well worth it.

If I would have to pick one though, I'd definitely go with CS:S. Probably a little biased seeing as I've never actually played TF2, only watched game play of it and whatnot. I definitely don't think it's a bad game and I'd recommend trying it along with CS:S.

CS:S can be a little frustrating when you start out though. It may take you a few months to get decent kill/death ratios. I recommend playing in deathmatch so you get instant respawn and essentially get to shoot more.

Hehe...

I usually just walk up and down stairs normally one at a time. I like going down at sort of an angle at times, like sideways almost.

When I was at my old house with carpets I would sometimes sort of crawl up (as some people before me have mentioned this method). Seemed faster that way.

Nope, my PC is shit... well, it's a laptop and I don't own a desktop and I don't plan on buying a super computer any time soon. Besides, they don't look like my kind of games.

Right... by strategy, Maverick Alex, I hope you're referring to rts, tps, etc.?

There are tons and tons of strategy games for consoles. Who said they were for PCs? And at that statement: you don't need a "good" computer to play starcraft or many many other games.

Try playing fire emblem or advanced wars. I find them both challenging and fun. On DS or GBA. Or you could always try pc emulators?

Topic: "Hardcore" gamers are ruining games

Posted: 10/13/09 09:09 AM

Forum: Video Games

Hmm... when I think "hardcore gamer" I think someone who plays games competitively. Play them in a competitive style as in, using rules that actual proffessionals of that game would use. So by that logic, I would consider a competitive smash player "hardcore".

When I think casual I think basically anyone who doesn't do so. But I think even more of people who don't really play games much. As in, the wii fitness mom or something along those lines.

The group of people referred to in this thread just seem to be "retards who think they're cool for bashing certain games/consoles". This person can play halo 3 12 hours a day and completely be terrible at it. But in the end he says to himself "I'm hardcore cuz i play halo and other FPS games and you play nintendo which makes you a casual fag".

And at the OP: You shouldn't let these people get to you or influence what games you choose to play.

I blame myself for a lot of this. I haven't been coming on as much as I should. Time zone differences are quite difficult to overcome.

Questions of the Day
1. What do you think of Downloadable Conent and Patches?

They are perfectly acceptable. Yeah if you had to pay for these "upgrades" then it would seem like a bit of a scam. Companies shouldn't be able to do that. But patches allows the developer to constantly refine and improve their game.

Take starcraft 1 for example. Blizzard was constantly releasing new patches to continually balance the game. By that I mean, make sure all 3 races (zerg, protoss, terran) were as balanced as possible. Making for better gameplay.

2. What do you think of Video Game Systems working like Computers?
3. What do you think of Hackers in the Video Game Community?

It would kind of depend.

Say, some techy brawl players think that brawl is boring or unbalanced, etc. etc. So they "hack" the game to adjust it. They wanted to tweak the game mechanics a bit and also refine the character balance. They called this new version of Brawl, "Brawl+". Although I have never played this game (as it requires a few things such as the homebrew channel), I don't think this type of "hacking" is bad, or hurts anyone.

Then let's say some wise guys decide to hack mariokart so that they are giant (like if they had eaten a giant mushroom) throughout the whole race. Sure it might be irritating, but honestly with a type of game like mariokart, all I could do is laugh.

Now, I play Counter-Strike:Source on a somewhat competitive level. I play in competitive style scrims and so-forth. Hackers in CS:S is quite a problem, especially online. I'm not talking about the blatant hackers who are spinning around, running twice as fast, randomly spraying, and getting all headshots. Those guys easy to catch for the most part. I mean, the not so obvious hackers. The ones that have "wall hacks" or a slight "aimbot" that isn't too noticeable. When someone resorts to having to use hacks in order to win when it matters, on a competitive playing field where money is at stake, then it really matters.

I'm not a sore loser, I just hate it when people assume everyone has to play competitively. When we're not, and you are, you're not being a team player or talking shit for fun. You're being an asshole. I don't want to hear "Haha noob you suck at this game, uninstall fag" just because i'm playing for fun.

No you don't. There are PLENTY of servers where you can simply play for "fun". Fun map servers, zombie mod servers, there's tons of them out there. Try setting your server filter to maps that start with zm, or mg, or fy.

When you're playing in a pub server (which I assume is the only kind you've been playing on) that can't nearly be conceived as playing "competitively". Those are 5v5 matches with specific maps and are usually password locked.

I would agree too that people who tell you to uninstall the game for sucking are assholes. Everyone starts somewhere. When I first played the game I got maybe one kill for every 10 deaths. But if you can find the right configurations (crosshair size, mouse sensitivity, etc.) and play for long enough you can surely improve your aim and get better at the game. Hell, just try to youtube search "css guide" or something. Some of the vids there have helped me.

Everyone listens to tiers. It's just purely unfair if you pit a team of Ubers against Standard tier Pokemon, and basically every team you listen is filled to the ears with Ubers.
Tiers are a big thing in Pokemon. OU v Ubers, Ubers would win.

Also, Wynaut and Wobbafett are counted as ubers due to being over-powered.

Go here for the full Tier list and proper ways to raise each individual Pokemon in DPP: http://www.smogon.com/dp/tiers/

I don't own a DS so I just have a team I made on "shoddy battle". It's just a computer pokemon battle simulator. Choose any pokemon you want from any generation, give them any item, and moves, and customize their IVs and EVs. In competitive pokemon play all of your pokemon are level 100 btw.

So..

Jirachi
Kingdra
Kabutops
Scizor

I have to admit that the characters aren't AMAZINGLY balanced, so some do suck, but I've seen people do very well with bad characters too. It depends on what the user's best at. Well the majority of top level players use the upper tiers. This is where the tier list becomes a little controversial. Because we think "is it the character that makes the player perform well?" or "Is it the player making the characters better."

Some characters lower on the tier list aren't as bad, they just have poor people representing them. And low tier mains do exist. Yoshi, as previously stated is rated quite low but a few players can represent him very well, beating falcos and metaknights, and so forth.

True that. Although yesterday I read an online article that said the japanese have on average internet connectsions 4x as fast as the US.

Because Falcon is lulz worthy. I'm sure crink could have went gannon and still won too. Not that it proves that gannon beats ike or whatever.

Everyone is good with different characters that's true. And characters have their own weaknesses and strengths, also true. However some characters clearly have more strengths than weaknesses or vise versa.

Yeah. It was. I was surprised someone told me to "suck a scout". rofl. I play cs source on a shitty little laptop. I have to use a damn config to turn off any extra shit like corpses, bullet holes etc., and with all settings on the lowest to get a decent fps (20-30) not kidding this time.

Anyway, easiest way to learn is to go out there and do it. Don't play arena, you won't get as much play time. Don't play instant respawn, you'll never learn from mistakes.

Really? I don't play tf2 but i play instant respawn deathmatch before i go into a serious scrim or something just for warmup. There you can simply focus on shooting the whole time rather than sitting around waiting for action after you were instantly owned the round started.

Maybe go watch some youtube tutorials? adjust your mouse sensitivity to your liking. And just play the game to develop some "game sense" if you know what I mean.

That's bull shit. You as the TO are responsible for handling all of your counter-arguments. It's like saying "I can say anything to you and you can't do anything back. I'm ignoring you now" Put up a good argument please.

SSB was the MOST balanced of the games, sure Pikachu had SOME balance issues, but you were able to win with ANY character in the game, it was more dependent on skill and utilising your characters advantages.

In Brawl in Melee, the problem was there WAS NO DISADVANTAGES TO TOP TIER CHARACTERS. That's why they were so inpentrable! Strong characters weren't slow, hell, SONIC WASN'T SLOW AND HE KICKS ASS.

eh sonic is somewhere in the middle. He has bad KO power. He simply has a very good game "tricking" the opponent. But he had very good players using him and representing him to boost his tourney winnings. Tier lists can change, they always do. Like... twice a year?

Bowser and other slow characters actually got NERFED (to the point that Samus's powered up blast can't do crap to somebody at 100%,) the balance was thrown WAY off. Mario was shot and killed, his perfect balance of speed and power was lost. Ike and Marth still had the strongest smash attacks, and still were decent speed.

Bowser is better in Brawl. But Samus was indeed nerfed to hell, as with Mario, although he was average at best in melee. Ike wasn't in melee, that was roy. Marth doesn't have the strongest smash attacks even when tippered. Also, Ike is slow.

NOBODY LEARNED ANYTHING. They just kept on screwing it up more and more. I do think you can win with anybody in the game, but in all honesty, it DOES get harder when you go deeper down the tier list. Crink, there's a reason Sakurai hesitated to accept working on Brawl when he was first asked, he KNEW that he would screw it up MORE, and guess what? He was right.

I only hope for SSB4 to fix itself up, not by cutting off all 34 characters (37 if you count transformations) I actually like that, I hope for MORE characters, but I hope that Sakurai invests MORE into the balancing team, they've been doing a shitty job.

I think most of us can agree on this. But it's asking a lot. also, Sakurai said he wouldn't want to make the next smash game. Maybe someone else can pick it up.

Slow characters should be strong.
Fast characters should be weak.
Medium speed characters should be somewhere in the middle.
High jumpers should have a bad ground game.
Low jumpers should have a better ground game.

That's how it's been for the history of fight games, and the balancing team needs to know it.

They just wanted to add in more stupid trivial things like SSE, stickers, stage builder, etc. What balance team? It seems like they tested "balance" by playing 4 player ffas with items on.

Also, to the guy that complimented me about walking out of the Bandwagon, don't worry, I'm used to it, I hate the Bandwagon.

The "bandwagon" on the video game forums is a bunch of misinformed retards. Although that's not to say that people who simply aren't "on the bandwagon" aren't idiots too.
