I think someone mentioned the Presonus AudioBox. It's got 2 mic ins, and phantom. It's also way cheap.

It looks like the presonus audio box is incredibly sexy and what I want, but there are no vista 64bit drivers, which is the OS thats coming on my computer :(

are there any other boxes like that, usb interface, phantom powered xlr ports, and DCA monitor outs for that price range?

well the only cable I'm really interested in buying is a decent stereo jack to L/R mono jacks from my computer to the speakers, so that doesn't mess up the sound.

I'm also getting a condensor mic, so I'll need to record in, but the rest of production will be entirely digital. the speakers I'm gonna most likely get will have basic jacks

right now I'm looking at these audio interface and they all seem to be geared towards recording, line in's etc, mic in's

The only reason I'm interested in an audio interface is to ensure my computers electronics dont interfere with the sound. Is the interference really all that bad anyways in a desktop? cant I just use the on board mic in and speaker out on the motherboard?

I'm looking at this. does a usb interface have higher latencies than a firewire between a card and interface combo?

Upgrading my Setup?? Posted December 25th, 2008 in Audio

I'm upgrading my setup right now for the holiday season!

my current setup is pretty dry, a dell inspiron 9300 laptop, single core 1.83 gh, and 1 gig of ram, 533 MHz, and two m-audio av-3-'s, which are surprisingly nice.

I'm getting soon a dell studio desktop with a quad core 2.83 intel processor, 8 gigs of 833 MHz ram, and a huge assed screen.

nonetheless, I'm not getting a creative gaming sound card, which was the only option, so I selected no sound card.

The things I really have vague clues as to what to get are the sound card, and the studio monitors.

for the sound card, I've heard M-audio sound cards are very nice for under 100 bucks, which is about my price range. nayone have any suggestions for the 150 and under price range?

for the monitors, My m-audio av-3-'s have been terrific, So I think I want to invest in the bigger, most accurate ones.

these or these.

anyone have any suggestion. 220-250$ is my upper price range. I'm looking specifically for accurate reproduction. as close as I can get, room acoustics aside.

also will I need high quality cables to ensure sound reproduction is more acacurate? if so, which ones and how many. the speakers will be plugged into the soundcard, and thats it

Merry christmas!

heres an important fact. to get decent at making music in any program it will take you about 1 year. to become incredibly good, it will take 5 years. to achieve mastery it will take around 10 years.
this is putting in a little time every day to practice and make something
