Muslims actually do see Jesus as divine. Some even do see him as the son of god. A major difference is that Muslims generally do not think Jesus was crucified, and instead ascended to heaven as god incarnate. Because of this, some Muslims who believe Jesus was god incarnate also don't believe that humanity has yet been redeemed for their sins. Parts of the Qur'an allude to the end times. In this version of the end times, Jesus will redeem God's people and set up the kingdom of heaven on earth. They believe the Muhammad will be at his side, and will be the emissary between the people and God.
Some other difference's between the Islamic Jesus and the Christian Jesus is that Christians think that Mary was impregnated by God himself. Muslims think that Mary only experienced a virgin conception, but a divine one. (I really don't know how they think a virgin birth ca n be anything other then divine, but its not my faith.)

The NAACP, an organization famous for being angry at the government for being too racist all the time, frequently gave Byrd high "approval" ratings for his voting record (i.e. for voting in a way they agreed with on various race-related bills), including a 100% rating in 2003-2004.
That's very compelling evidence. The NAACP are as infamous for (supposedly) being Black Panthers in suits as Byrd was for being (supposedly) racist in his later life. Maybe the question is instead of him being a racist (We all know he was a racist in his early life.) is was he that way in his later life? And did he more than make up for it?

That's what you said he was. But now we're back to just defining his job as being a servant of the people of West Virginia? Which is it guy?
Let me rephrase it. A senator is a servant to both the constitution and to his home state first. Or at least thats how I view it. You may have a different definition. Secondly, he serves the national as a whole in conjunction with the rest of the Senate and House.

Good point. However, many men Byrd's age had racist pasts. It was apart of America, it's sad to say, but we were probably the last major country in the world in the early to mid 20th century that still had segregationist views. (I'm not counting South Africa due to the fact that even to this day its a struggling country. America almost from the onset until the civil war was a very stable country.)
For example: After 9/11 he used his position as chairman of the Senate Appropriations committee to secure funds for the victims and for the city of New York itself. This doesn't really prove anything again because 9/11 is one of those events where if you care to be re-elected, you're going to HAVE to come down on the side of something like that. I think anyone in that position is going to secure funds for the victims and the city. Of course they're going to do that so to me it's kind of a no brainer that while positive, isn't really indicitive of the specific issue at hand, whether or not he was still racist. Because even though he knew he'd be helping blacks and other minorities, he could easily justify it based on what it would do to help whites, and it would keep him in office and able to continue to help whites.
I'm going out on a limb, but look at Hillary Clinton's personal statement on Byrd's passing. It seems his efforts (Remember until the mid 2000's he was Washington's money man.) contributed more greatly than other senators with lesser resources.
Some called him the King of Pork, I disagree. Pork is wasted money, he never made the rich richer, nor did he use it for personal gain. He was a true servant of the people of West Virginia, and the general population of the country. You're not using the proper definition of "pork", it isn't just wasteful spending and wasteful in the ways you pointed out. Pork is UNNECESSARY or inappropriate spending. Pork can be as simple as say, tacking onto the healthcare bill that passed a rider whereby Virginia gets extra funding for a state park he happens to be fond of. It's sometimes as simple as putting your own district ahead of the country.
I cant see anything unnecessary about giving much needed funding to one of the nation's poorest states. If it was giving California (Whose economy is larger than most nations.) to line the streets of LA in gold. Or Alaska doing another road and bridge to no wear, then maybe I would cry foul. But those funds were to give us a better infrastructure, increased educational opportunites and others, I really don't see whats so unnecessary about it.
How do you know that's the way in which it was meant? Also he could have easily chosen a less inflammatory word. He could have said "socially disadvantaged" "poor and uneducated" hell he could have just sat there and said "lazy mother fuckers" but no, he chose a word that has a SPECIFIC definition to the majority of persons in this country, and that specific definition the majority understands is as a slur against blacks. It's especially damning when it comes from the mouth of a known Klansman.
But the possibilities are still there. Byrd was known for his use of rather archaic (Even for a man of his age.) language and terms. Another term he used quite often was "Gay" in its original meaning. That word is also held with somewhat negative connotations also. However if an elderly person states that he/she is gay? Should we condemn them as homosexual?
Thanks for being a worthy debate opponent. I'm truly glad this topic didn't just become a troll magnet.

First of all, I am very familiar with Byrd's past. I know all about his time in the Klan and his past racial views. Byrd was a product of his generation. Part of that sadly is racism. In time he saw that his past views were wrong. I believe his past can be forgiven due to his many deeds during his time in office. For example: After 9/11 he used his position as chairman of the Senate Appropriations committee to secure funds for the victims and for the city of New York itself. (Definition of the n-word from Websters Online Dictionary)
1 usually offensive; see usage paragraph below : a black person
2 usually offensive; see usage paragraph below : a member of any dark-skinned race
3 : a member of a socially disadvantaged class of persons <it's time for somebody to lead all of America's (edited from source due to filters)...all the people who feel left out of the political process - Ron Dellums>
usage (edited) in senses 1 and 2 can be found in the works of such writers of the past as Joseph Conrad, Mark Twain, and Charles Dickens, but it now ranks as perhaps the most offensive and inflammatory racial slur in English. Its use by and among blacks is not always intended or taken as offensive, but, except in sense 3, it is otherwise a word expressive of racial hatred and bigotry.
Look at number three. Senator Byrd used the n-word in the third definition when he said that there were many "White N****s" in West Virginia. Being a native of the state, I can say that the statement holds true.

No, he just I don't know brought much needed federal money to his state. Go to West Virginia and see just how many things are named after him to see how beloved he was. The people voted for him time and time again because he stood for his constituents.

Why did I join Newgrounds.....Damn this brings back memories. Back when I was around 11 or 12 years old, a friend of mine showed me ebaumsworld.com. Though ebaums world, on one of the games, I saw a button linking to something called newgrounds.com. When I first saw it, I was amazed by the sheer vast amount of "dirty" (I was a doe-eyed preteen, remember that.) content. This was back in the days that newgrounds used to run this pop-up that linked to a good amount of free e-zine porn. This was also when the site had almost a purely HTML layout, before even the old flash buttons. I was amazed, and I saw that you could join and add ranking and potentially be the force that decides if submissions get saved or blamed. While I never did vote much (As my relatively low level for such an old account will show you.), I did however become a faithful user of the site. My Jr High days were filled with fond memories of my and my friends watching such classics like the original Tomorrows Nobodies, and the Stick Wars Star Wars spoofs. From middle school to what is now college, Newgrounds has been apart of my life. It has grown as I have grown. From a site that used to rely on massive amounts of porn adverts to Tom being on Attack of the Show. From my now pitiful dial-up connection to DSL to Cable to my much loved T3 connection inside my dorm room. Newgrounds has a very special place in my heart as it is in so many others. From the Problems of Tomorrow, Today, to Everything by Everyone. From my journey to an awkward pre-teen stalking the internet, to an awkward Poly-Sci major stalking the internet while smoking massive amounts of cigarettes. I am grateful to Tom Fulp for making this site.

One of the many flaws I found in this. How can you replace someone with Mussolini when the country Mussolini came to power in wasn't destabilized. In reality Italy was a part of Allied forces in WWI. And with Russia, while WWI actually boosted the popularity of the Czars, it was a group of dissidents that took power and places Lenin and Stalin in power.
There can be no greater error than to expect or calculate upon real favors from nation to nation. It is an illusion, which experience must cure, which a just pride ought to discard. - George Washington in his farewell address.
Washington warned us against both long standing friendships and rivalries with other nations. He wanted us to be somewhat isolated in the affairs of other nations. However, we began to disregard his advice as soon as Adams became president (Remember the Alien and Sedation Acts from history class?) we were in a "Quasi" war with France. With Jefferson we invaded Tripoli because we were caught shipping in their water-ways. (In fact, the Marines still sing of it.) Follow the timeline until the Spanish-American war where we let the media drag us into a war with no merit (The sinking of the Maine is now considered an accident.).
We come to Teddy Roosevelt who implemented something called the Big Stick Policy. Taking its name from an old African proverb (Something to the effect of "Walk quietly but carry a big stick."), he became something of an international bully. At this time America was still considered a relatively small player in international politics. However, we had a growing influence in the South Pacific and in parts of South America (Panama being the most relevant today with the Panama Canal.)
Teddy wanted American's to be proud of their country, so the most logical way (In his mind.) to do that was to bully his way into the national stage. I'm not going into the specifics, but feel free to pick up a history book.
After World War II we are propelled onto the world stage. We entered the war a weak and battered nation. We left it a super power. This gave us a kind of large ego, however this is not entirely unfound because not many countries can survive a crisis as big as the Great Depression let alone thrive in its aftermath (World War II being the cure for the Depression.).
In the wake of World War II we find ourselves in the Cold War. Everyone in this post is well aware of the events of this time period. Almost every single one involved us fighting a enemy we helped create. We funded the Viet Cong, we enabled China to assist North Korea, we gave weapons to the Mujahideen and paved the way for Osama Bin Ladin to take a good portion of them and found Al Queda. We have also funded many more dictators throughout history. Countless dictators in South America we helped install. The government in Cuba that Castro helped overthrow was a puppet government put into place by the CIA.
Their is a method to my madness. Go back to the beginning of my post, to the quote the Washington gave us. We American's like to look to Washington as the divine founder of our country. (Look up Apotheosis of Washington.) However we also have not taken his advice to heart. We constantly have thrown ourselves into the affairs of other countries. We have taken to being the police of the world (Starting namely with Roosevelt.), and because of that, we have turned hostilities onto ourselves.
Sorry that this post is so long, however I feel that it gives a decent and (mostly) unbiased look into the subject of this post.

-Here in America, and in most "Western" countries, we highly praise the institution of Democracy. Some might even consider it a holy institution.
-But where does Democracy come from? The Athenian Assembly, the Roman Republic and the Icelandic Althing. You might note that Democracy is in fact, a Greek word.
-And what religion were the people who instituted them? They followed their native Pagan belief systems.
-Why is that? The Greek and Norse gods were democratic. The gods met and voted about important matters, and from them, we inherited the tendency to do likewise. Once Christianity came to those countries, they lost their democracy and fell under the rule of kings until democracy starting fighting back 1000 years later in France and the United States. And how did they establish the new democracies? Separation of Church and State. Funny coincidence, huh?
Now consider countries in the Middle East that have the influence of the Abrahamic continuity but not the Western Pagan heritage. They are predominantly Dictatorships and Theocracies, as you would expect from followers of an "all-powerful" monotheistic deity. And here's a funny thing: We westerners hate their guts. And the people who especially hate their guts are the ones who worship the same monotheistic God as they do, while the more atheistic or multi-cultural areas are more tolerant of them.
You're probably starting to ask "What's your point?" To inform. If you like your precious democracy, then give the proper respects to Odin and Athena who gave it to you. If you can't bear to face the truth, then go find yourself a king to rule you instead. There is no religion that tolerates lying. Don't live in a lie.
Its a good thing we are a republic then. Democracy is a form of government is where all the citizens of a particular government come together in one setting and decide matters with a majority vote. So really this point is moot isn't it? Really imagine all the citizens of America converging in the Capital Building. We elect Senators and Congressmen to make our decisions. Thats what makes a republic a republic, the existence of a legislative body to represent the populace in decision making. But alas dear troll, do not loose hope, for the idea of a republic was taken from the Greek democracy by the Romans and morphed into a Republic.

I tried to make a point that we all are connected by music! Now of course it's impossible for everyone to like the one same band or musician. But some people are so talented in music that can change generations. I used The Beatles because they have made some inspiring music. Try listing to here comes the sun or come together and not feel something stir inside you. Not everyone will but I guarantee the a lot of people around the world would. And it doesn't have the be The Beatles. Another good examples is Metallica. They toured the world and have concerts in places were half of the people don't speak English! Then why do they have concerts there? It's because the music its self not the words speaks to the people! And thats why music is the universal (or should i say global for all the smart ass's out there) language.

In our world of violance and terrorism it seems like that one thing that all humans have in common is music. It doesnt matter if it is rock, country, blues, rap, or any genre of international music. For as long as man has developed its civilations music has been apart or our soceity. It has been used for communication, entertainment, and ceremoanial purposes. My point is the music has been apart of us since the dawn of cililation. If you want an example of a band that has brought music to a universial level look at The Beatles. They remain to this day one of the best selling bands in history. Their music has spoken to almost 4 generations across the world. To this day their remembered for bringing the world together though their music. The morned for the death of John Lennon and more recentally George Harrision. Their music has left a lasting impression on the world and will continue in the coming generations. My point is that music has been and will continue be the driving factor of human civilation!
