Actually Kashi, your art looks like an american drawing japanese art, I can't even think of a manga artist your style reminds me of

And I've read a lot of manga

Any artists you guys think you intentionally or unintentionally emulate?

I'm pretty sure I've grown out of the Tim Burton comparisons...hopefully.

Just changing the subject for the sake of talking about something less retarded.

Decided that I should finish up the Icarus drawing since this background is pretty much the same and it'd still be Robot Day but decidedly better than the original plan.

It's just that it doesn't make the kind of nonsense that could be passed off as style in my opinion.

But yeah you should reference a drummer and take another swing at it.

Also, why is Beetlejuice fused with the bass drum? Where's the hi-hat and ride and what are those things near the bass drum? Three floor toms?

Kinda looking in the wrong place if you're trying to make money especially at your current skill level.
If I wanted a portrait by an artist they better have a boss art style for my dough, otherwise I'd just draw myself...myself and call it a day.

Just some food for thought.

Response to: My stuff Posted June 22nd, 2011 in Art

Nice stuff here, I notice your work has this bloom effect, the kind of thing that was popular in games around the time where Ico and Jak and Daxter 2 came out. It's just weirdly glowy, but I'd like to see you color with other kinda of light play at work.

Self taught-ness is also pretty cool, but I notice little flaws in your work in terms of proportions and the way the bodies are splayed. I'd say you need to work more on portraying the human figure more accurately, since your style is reliant on the accuracy of the figures to some degree.

Response to: the renaissancekid's art thread Posted June 21st, 2011 in Art

Draw from life, I'd say work on being able to portray realism to some degree before moving onto your own "style" because right now, your characters lack a foundation of skill.

If you're concentrating on character art you need to practice from life first. I'd suggest either taking a life drawing class or at least going to crowded places and draw people.

You also should try model sheets of characters, you can start with the bunny thing you drew.

Basically draw your character, completely colored if you want, you might wanna also mark up the colors you'd like to use for the character, draw them turned around or at least full frontal and a profile view, and measure the character out (by heads). On the same paper draw the character doing various expressions and maybe gestures.

Here's an example of a model sheet. It is not my model sheet though.

I'd suggest you work with traditional mediums first, and like I said understand anatomy and draw from life.

It's a myriad of factors that can keep you from being scouted:
1. You could probably not be very active in any way on Newgrounds, in the way of reviewing art or flashes or music or on the forums so people might not see your art.
2. Someone or most of the people who sift through the scoutee section do not find your art good enough, which is subjective.
3. Newer scoutees are just seen faster so they are scouted first.
4. A combination of these factors or other factors.

I'd say be more active, you do seem to review a bit, maybe a bit more would help. Maybe an art thread here will help you improve as an artist and increase your chances of being scouted and lastly just be patient.

I dunno, I'm very excited for the Vita, Dark Souls and Uncharted 3 among a few other things, I'm not really much a gamer anymore though but some of the things Sony was showing off impressed me and such.

I've been using my PSP for almost 5 years I would love the Vita.

I'm just kinda blown by the girth, it's really just a lot to go through. When I look at someone's thread I kinda go cross-eyed if it goes over 5 pages but I also don't think everyone bothers looking at all pages of any particular artist unless you're really taken by it. I dunno, just something I thought of on a whim.
