I've gotten a few pm's about this, though I haven't picked anyone yet. If you're interested, a spot is still open. I'm only bumping this topic one more time before I let it die for good.
Hi guys, Klokinator here. I'm looking for an artist to help me out with my visual novel, titled "Phoenix Chronicles: Path of Rivalry". I have an artist for characters, I had a composer who made many songs, and I'm programming and writing the dialogue myself. Our engine will be Renp'y and I have a good sense of how to use it.
The artist I need would be paid a small fee for their services, ranging from $5 to $15 based on how good their backgrounds are. The game will most likely be a free VN, so expecting more won't get you much. If everything worked out well and I actually made a good enough VN that selling it were an option, more might be forthcoming for the prominent members of the project later on, but there's little guarantee of that.
The background style I'm looking for is medieval, with some fantasy mixed in. Things like castles, rustic interiors, open plains, and other things of that nature would be best.
In addition, if you have skill with CG's for the more important scenes, I'd be willing to pay for those as well, and a bit more again dependent on quality. Prices for CG's range from $10 to $25. There are no planned romance scenes for the game, so most CG's would involve action and fighting scenes, or perhaps more of the sensational scenes like a memory.
The game is the first in a planned trilogy, with a story about a teenage guy (17) and his twin sister who are out with their father, the king, when he is brutally murdered. Featuring a story about intrique, tragedy, and the ability to soldier on in spite of trials, the game also features a cast of characters with unique personalities that have been developed over time. My ability to write is evidenced by the (Incomplete due to writers block) short novel that I wrote some time back, located here.
You can either message me here on newgrounds, join my forum at Klokreations.net and message me there, or send me an email at klokinator@yahoo.com.
Thank you for your time.

We can see that. *pokerface*
Now that you have the ability to get the daily email, perhaps we'll see more of you.
But... it doesn't have anything to do with getting a PM notification, therefore it's nothing I need. /thatawkwardmoment

Oh cool, you get a daily email from Newgrounds, if that's how I understand it. HOW TO ENABLE?
nhl.com
newgrounds.com
mlb.com
bbc.co.uk
gmail.com
nba.com
nascar.com
escapistmagazine.com
my.lotro.com
warriors.co.uk
giantitp.com
espncricinfo.com
and my online bank.
Now, is it too much trouble for you to check each one of these sites in turn? For the benefit of people thinking I'm trying to shoot your idea down, I am trying to present you with a viable solution in the meantime, because lets face it, we're not getting something like this programmed overnight, as I've sat down and chatted with some of the programmers for NG over time at the meetups, so I get a vague idea of some of the stuff they have to deal with.
My point being, if I don't have email notifications, I can't keep track of a site.I doubt that very much, as you manage to monitor Newgrounds without an email update. After all, you've been back to this thread for a few days, to respond to the conversation.
Oh yes, because I find it important to respond to and I know for a fact it'll be getting a reply. Considering I missed it for a full day or two after one of these replies, I suppose your point is moot.

>Sarcasm
You're not going to get that much traffic back from this number of reviews being written, unless you're conducting them all by PM. If you're doing it like that, why not make a space during the day to check your NG account for these responses to your PMs?
I communicate with many users via PM, because I'm a personable person.
Never mind, implement it or don't, but you guys are pretty ridiculous. It's a smart request, one many people could benefit from. I'd understand if it was very very low on the list of priorities, but seeing as this site just underwent a massive change I figured now would be a good time to suggest something the site sorely needs, but foolish foolish me.

If you're not checking this site very often because you spend all your time on the other sites, then you probably aren't getting any PMs from anyone here.
I don't understand why you have such a problem with opening newgrounds for 2 seconds to see if you have a PM. It takes less time than going to your email and looking for one from newgrounds.
Except what I do is open my email and see how many PMs I've gotten across all the sites I go to. Newgrounds is the only site, so far, that I have to check every day to see if I get PM's. If you look at my profiles I posted, most sites I go to I have between 400 and 3,000 posts on (And I didn't even link to all of them) and all of them have email notifications. Might be shocking, but I get a lot of PMs in a week from all these sites, I can't remember to check all of them. And as you may notice, I only have 35 posts on this forum, so it would seem negligible for me to even bother here. (Who's going to PM me if I'm not even known around here?)
However, I review a lot of games and music, I PM a lot of members, and don't frequent the forums themselves much. Mainly because the forum is so huge it's hard to keep updated xD But my point is, I don't use this site nearly as much as I do others, so I can't remember to keep up with it like other sites.
Now, I'm not going to miss a PM entirely on this site. After all, if I never checked it at all, I'd still get a PM at the end of the week. But is it too much to ask to have the opportunity to be somewhat timely with my reply to said PMer? Is it bad that I want to respond within 24 hours instead of 6 days (At top end)? If someone PM's me one hour after the deadline for the week end PM, I just missed their PM for a week. (And yes, that has happened a couple times.) By the time I respond it's like "Oh well glad you fiiiinally got back to me..." it's just rude.
But then again, >manners on the internet.

I do see where you're coming from, but at the same time I think you could help yourself a little, too.
I have people from many various communities collaborating with me on my game, I don't like to tell them to come to my forum (And just between you and me, once people come to my forum they drop off the radar, I've tried it before.) and I have a learning disability, so to speak, that makes me forget who a person is if I'm not talking to them on the same site I met them on. So, Marcos from gamelair is not the same as Marcos from Newgrounds, in my mind.
Anyway, no need to code a whole email system for just little old me [s]and anyone else who might want it but hadn't thought to bring it up[/s], just use what you have I guess.

If you're receiving a lot of PMs (more than one daily), then why can't you stop by and check yourself, if you're that bothered about it.
I'm just saying and I appreciate your concern, though it seems that something like that would, to me, be a little excessive.

I'm also a prominent member at DGemu, though their forums are down for some inexplicable reason.
My point being, if I don't have email notifications, I can't keep track of a site. In this day and age, instant notifications are incredibly useful for someone like me, and if that's not possible then even delayed PM's like I outlined will suffice. I don't keep up in my friends in these communities very easily due to the sheer staggering number I go to.
But maybe I'm talking at the air, never mind whatever.

Men, and women are not opposites from each other, but were compliments of each other. Therefore not only are we not equal, but we are not meant to be in competition with one another.

And I agree. Neither trumps the other, it's kinda like this actually...

I guess it's something I'll get used to lol. Since I don't get a thousand pm's a day, and I only communicate with one or two people on this site, I don't check it often. In fact, as a member of over a dozen communities, some I'm more active in than others, the email upon recieving a PM is a very useful feature I appreciate a lot. Now, I understand that the option would also probably put a lot of extra strain upon the server, but there is a very good compromise that works out great for all users, period. And if they don't use it or need it, they could disable it.
Namely, one of the sites I go to has 3 options for recieving new PM's. You can get:
1. No email notifications.
2. Instant notifications, the moment you recieve a PM you get an email telling you that you recieved a PM.
3. Delayed notifications. This will only send you an email if you're not logged in to the site, have not visited within 20-30 minutes, and it only sends one PM regardless of how many messages you get. Once you login, it sets the switch, in a manner of speaking, to "off", allowing it again to send you a single PM if you recieve one or more.
Now, maybe I'm wrong, maybe it's a lot of code, there's lots of maybes here, but if the instant notifications is not viable for whatever reason like server load and etc, I don't see why a delayed notification would hurt the site in the least. Not everyone comes here to share huge flash projects or etc. Me, I came here to hire paid spriters and musicians, and after that, I've got what I need, we all communicate here once or twice a day or so. (Often less) But, it's a pain because except for the rare time I check, sometimes they send me a message like, 10 minutes after I check, I miss it, and by the next time I check, 2 or 4 hours have gone by and now they're offline, missing their chance to say "Hey, I'm on the IRC now" or etc and have me respond.
Call me whiny if you life, I just think it'd be nice to have something other than a rather useless once a week PM notification. If it was once a day, I could understand that. But... a week? If you're getting hundreds of PMs, you'll be checking your box pretty often, and if you're like me only getting one or two every now and then, a week is just useless. By then as much as six days have passed (Though admittedly I do check once a day anyway.) and you've missed the message, maybe they stopped checking their inbox because you took too long, you send them a message, and they've moved on.
Do you see what I'm getting at? I don't need the site to send me a hundred emails, but once a day would be nice.
At 15 hours ago, Malachy wrote: Yes, there is a feature where you will receive an email if you have any unread PMs at the end of the week. I visit the site daily so I can't comment on whether the emails have been going out as scheduled since the redesign.
End of the week? :|
Take what I can get I guess. Just seems like this site/forums are behind the times on a lot of things and it's running ancient forum software. At least it looks purty.
Is there a way to get an email when I get a PM? As a member of over 15 communities, I need this so I can be notified for every community I go to and it seems to be a feature lacking at Newgrounds, considering the day and age. With this new redesign (Which I freaking love, by the way) I figured it'd be nice to add it if it isn't already here.
Hi there. I'm commissionin an anime artist to draw me up a couple scenes for my Fire Emblem game. I will pay money for these, the amount is up for debate via PM. (Competition helps the online economies, eh?)
If you've ever played fire emblem, you may be familiar with the "between chapter CG's". If not, this will give you an idea of what I'm going for. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIpUb7VctB4
Each CG I need (Currently I need 1 pretty bad, and three more are "wants") will be 320x192 and will probably need a decent amount of detail. However I'm open to the style that will be used, as I'm not strictly sticking to the "FE" style.
Reply here or hit me up via PM if you are interested.

If your looking for extremely free and extremely simple, download the 8-bit Magical Plugin.
Those are my top 2 picks.
Incredible would defnitely seem to describe the FM8 one. I will probably torrent it and if I like it, buy it. The 8-bit magical plugin is likely much more up my alley xD

Pretty much the topic title. I have made two songs now, and they aren't amazing by any means at all. I want to try my hand with 8-bit sounds and I will be using FL studio. Is there a default plugin for it that can generate good 8bit sounds, is there a plugin I need to download, are there any good sound packs for it?
Etc.

Worth noting, I didn't say if you dislike the site, you're a retard,. I said if you hate the site, you're a retard, then went on to explain that "hating" means for no discernable reason. This does not mean disliking the site or finding fault with some errors is bad, that will help make it better. No, I mean saying THIS SITE IS UGLY BECUZ U GUYS PUT COLORS AROUND is retarded.

I don't want to see everyone's profile images, I'm sorry. Some of these will hopefully be resolved soon, but it depresses me all the same.
"Oh no I don't want to see something that's been a staple of forums for years and years"
Because anyone who hates it is retarded. (Note that hate does not mean somewhat disliking it for a few good reasons, it means hating it just because it's different.)
I mean look, you've got color coded shit everywhere, easy to keep track of everything, the audio portal is fucking fantastic, the categories are EXACTLY what we've been needing for years, the forum just finally looks colorful and not this black-on-grey sadness. Hell no, this forum says I AM ALIVE AND YOU WILL LOVE ME!
Also worth noting, for you morons out there saying "its images and it lags like a motherfucker". It loads 3x faster than the old one did. I know this, because I have slow internet at my house and finally I can visit more than three pages a day here.
I just wanted to say, everything looks good, but the voting icons are not showing up in at least the audio portal when you want to vote 0-5 for a song.
But like seriously guys, this webpage blew my mind. I knew the redesign would be coming, but my hopes were set low. I'm so blown away by how incredible everything looks.
In particular, I love the new audio portal. First there's new songs, draws your attention to them. Then you have "current" popular songs. Then some other categories. And finally, at the bottom, you have the all-time classics category. Brilliant, I've been wishing we had something like that for months.
I give the redesign an A+, pat yourselves on the backs.

Just a quick question man, is it possible that you were banned from the audio portal for any reason?

So to make sure I'm getting this right, a PAD sound is fine, but if the PAD had a pattern in it that I didn't make, THEN it would not be allowed? So if it's just a sound, that's fine, but if the sound comes with a preset pattern (Other than 1-2-1-2 beats, something more complex) THEN it is a bannable song?
I think I fully understand the rules now, won't make any more mistakes.
At 1/26/12 02:47 PM, Computer112 wrote: Hey guy(s), I got a problem from rendering. When I play the project (pre-rendering) it sounds pretty smooth but after I rendered the output, some part is silent or not even there at all. It even happens to FL core VST(s) (Wasp and FL Key). Even I disable max poly, not thing seems to be changed. I use FL Studio 9 Producer Edition.
Any solution? Thanks.
When you go to render a song, double check looping bro. I had a song, utterly pissed me off I tried setting everything correctly and the final sounds in the song ALWAYS played at the very beginning once it was actually rendered.
I'm referring to this, of course. http://puu.sh/f1ls always double check looping mode.
Now, this question is purely about preference. I don't know how to make dubstep, I'm not some fanboy going "OH MAH GAWD, DUBST3P WOOT GOTTA MAKE SUM SKRILLEX DUBST3P AN' FEEL SPECIAL 'BOUT MUHSELF", I just want to play around and see what it's like making it. Does FL Studio producers edition come with any good default sounds that would be modulated well for a hard bassline?
Okay I think I understand this a little better now. However, the first song I posted on newgrounds used 2 different PAD sounds, are those banned too? And I only use FL studio so good thing I don't use that Magix music maker.
Thanks BFP, your posts are very helpful. Seriously, I think to date it's been you who answers every question I post on this site xD
But... aren't a vast majority of the songs here made with FL? Are you saying any sound pack you find on the net, including those found as defaults in FL studio or Magix or anything else, even if you paid money and bought the program, are bannable offenses?
Because, sure seems like 90, even 95% of the songs on this site would have to be deleted if that was the rule, and that can't be right.
