When you unwrap, what resolution do you unwrap in? Also, as long as you don't really focus on the model with the camera, you can fake depth fairly easily with no complex geometry or even normal maps with a detailed texture.

The frontdoor for instance of O'Brien's (in my thread), has no normal map but does appear to have depth.
I'll admit being a texture artist is a job in itself though, hehe.

I render my templates at 1024x1024, although I know people who can make a girl wet with just a 512x512

where the hell do I get this stuff from o.0!

I could use a bump map and give some depth that way and try and rough the model, but I don't think it would go far enough for what I want.
I guess I could just sacrifice a ton of polys and render time and just do some work in Zbrush.
I'll try it today and see hot it goes, (something tells me to expect a computer crash by the end of the day)

The mechs are only half in the picture and the door is in all its glory...

I notice there are two lights, but the light itself seems to be coming from a few meters down from the source. They also drown out the texture on the floor.

I'm missing detail in the modesl. Things like scratches, dents, decals. I imagine a repair bay being a busy place which is used a lot, so make it a bit worn out. The red/blue warning lights(?) near the door also seem a bit tacked on, so something to 'transfer' them to the wall would make it look much better, again probably scratches or dirt or whatever.

How do you texture btw, do you unwrap your models and texture them in Photoshop?

Well I do unwrap, and I texture the maps in photoshop, but sadly as you can probably tell, I'm not that good at painting maps. It's a skill I'm trying my best to improve. Used to be I'm just slap flat colors on models and call it good, but not anymore.
I did try and rough up the Mech that is being repaired, but it only worked so well. If I loaded the model in zbrush and worked on it there I could do a hell of a lot more, but I'm having troubles with normal maps in zbrush and putting out the model from zbrush would result in a ton of polys (seriously were talking in the hundreds of thousands.)
I alwats have troubles with making scenes look "used" I try and rough them up as much as possible but they do tend to always come out so clean. I'll get to work on aging the place right away.
The lighting could use some more work to bring out those darkened places, I admit.
And on a last note for this one, it really isn't meant for a still. This is actually for a camera pan. when I came up with this project 5 weeks ago I didn't really have any environments. so I took the time to do one.And since I was already working on the Mech I decided this could go along with it, add some animation to the welding sparks and a cam pan then I had another short piece fir my demo reel.
\The cam pans to the upper right so you can see more of the "fixed" mech.

Still better than my piece though.

It's odd that suddenly people take intrest in my thread, I'm so used to being one of the unknown regulars around here. It's just odd.
Well on this one the Radial and Ulna tend to bend a little when there not suppose to. it does give the forearm a warped look, doesn't it. I guess if I had rotated the hand and wrist a little it wouldn't have that deformed look.

we atleast need to get our sub-themes going so we at least have some sort of direction or focus with our concepts. Cyberpunk alone is too broad of a subject.

well rather than thinking up things to draw why don't you make friends with a writer and have him give you concepts and descriptions to draw out for him?

I agree. and no you don't sound like a jackass so don't sweat it

ok we have a main theme, Cyberpunk.
lets get some sub themes going, we need them

I think for the level design we have pretty much 2 choices wasteland or city.

my vote on this one is the city.

We also need a theme for the enemies to keep them organized. I liked M-buddy's Snail he had going, so I say we go with the animal theme. It's a pretty solid idea, we can make a small list of critters, robofy them and call them the baddies.

I was setting in class and some old megaman baddies came to mind, so I went with it.

I have some sketches I'll get up in a few minuets

And finally we need to get a user ship.

Now I know that BomToons may give us a template and none of our pieces match the template, but we can deal with the bridge when we come to it. As for right now we need to get to work and have something to show.

I agree that we should follow any template given to us by bomtoons, but at the same time, us waiting on a template is a very stupid idea. if we don't get all our planning done now along with all of our concepts we'll be out of time later.
besides it isn't too hard to change the hit state in flash, so, um yeah.

for now I think that's what we should focus on.

Ai, Ai, Sir.
So a list it is.To recap what you said...
-So we Need a level, possibly one very long strip or a easily looping parts that we can assemble in to a longer strip.
-We need to choose and finalize out enemy concepts
-we need to Choose and finalize our player ship

For my own opinion I like the city concept,
I have yet to take serious thought of the other concepts so I have no opinion at this time, Sir
