Sorry to burst your bubble, but this thread is actually over 5 years old. Our old thread was created on the 30th of November, 2005. So the last day of November is our beloved crew's officially recognized birthday.

Did you have to shoot me down like that?

Anyway did I pass or fail the inspection?

I would like to congratulate the NGPD for it's 3 years of existance and 3 years of noble portal service. In other words, happy 3rd anniversary NGPD!

Also if Tails comes by and does his inspection tell him to suspend the start date for my apprenticeship (provided I pass) until April (unless by any chance he pops in here in April). State-standarized tests are eating up a lot of my time, hence my (somewhat unusual) disappearance from the chat.

Don't judge me for being late on the anniversary for I wasn't on NG yesterday!

I would start going to college and get a part-time job so that I can start making some real money since I won't run out of the $10,000. The part-time job would help me pay off the electric and water bills so that I won't have to dip in to the $10,000. In fact I would save that just in case of emergency or if I do something retarded.

If getting a job is not allowed in this hypothetical situation, then I would invest part of it into retirement and then retire. The interest I would get would then pay off the miscellaneous expenses.

For my free time I would be on the Internet all day, hang out with friends, and play video games.

If I can ignore my lack of knowledge for foreign travelling and financial expenses, I would like to be the person that travels all over the world.

I always wanted to see how places around the world look like. I already saw the Taj Mahal and that was amazing. Even traveling around the United States and some parts of Canada is a lot of fun; I'm yet to see what else other countries can offer. It is so boring to see the same damn town and schools over and over again. I want to see the world. I want to see the Grand Canyon, the Great Wall of China, etc.

Hell my school was hosting a trip to Argentina to go sightseeing and learn about the country. It was cancelled because only 9 people signed up. It even costs a lot of money (a whopping $3,000 plus additional for food and other expenses). If my parents were rich they would let me go, but because it costs a shit load of money they rejected, which I don't blame them either. If I could go I would also be able to meet an NG friend of mine who lives in Argentina.

In conclusion, I would love to be the person that travels all over the world. It will be a lot of fun to experience different cultures, try new food (I want to try a pizza from Italy) and see a lot of beautiful sites. My jaws already dropped when I played the Aquarium Park level in Sonic Colors and saw the beautiful layout of the stage modeled off of Japan (or is it China?)... it would be more fun if I could see such sights for real.

Of course, who am I kidding? Such trips are expensive as hell, I would need to know the languages of the target country (Argentina wouldn't be a problem though), I would suffer from the crazy time zone differences, and the plane ride would make me sick. Are all those drawbacks worth going through for the pleasure that would yield from it... I don't know...

Response to: Donations : Why donate? Posted March 21st, 2011 in General

At 3/21/11 06:47 AM, Overlord-Doomsday wrote: I just had to say it.

When people donate money, do they get anything out of it?? I'm afraid not, anybody tell me more about these things?!?

You can earn a tax credit for donating. So if you donate $100, you can get like $30 back from the government. Donating also gives some inner self-satisfaction to the donors too. Some people also donate for they can get something for it. Like those bake sales that give you a treat for a contribution. So if I wanted a cookie I could go buy it from a bake sale and get a cookie as well as supporting for a good cause.

There are special cases where some people may donate even though they can rake in the cash themselves. For instance, I'm making a flash (that unfortunately had it's FLA file corrupted) with another person, and we plan on implementing the API and linking all the ad revenue to those charity accounts. We do this because, asides from supporting a good cause, we know we won't rake in enough cash for years for the $50 check to be sent out via Revenue Sharing. So why make all that money if we won't get it in the end anyway? Thus, we decided to donate it to charity. Plus we hope the fact that we are donating all revenue to charity will increase exposure and viewers, so that people will play to donate to the charity, which can get the check sent out. So in certain situations, it's worth giving the money away as opposed to keeping it for yourself.

Hell my teacher gave away all of his earnings from his day at Jury duty (which is like $20) to charity for the school would then ask him for the money if he kept it. The greedy school district still wanted the money though, so he paid them the $20 (out of his own pocket) as a jar full of pennies (2000 pennies) as a fuck you to them.

You know, donating your organs can get you a crap load of cash. For instance, donating one of your kidneys can get you around $60,000, which is a lot. Although I wouldn't recommend doing that for if your other kidney fails you're dead. Donating is not always a sacrifice you know.

I was JUST thinking that.

Anyway airline food isn't that bad. Sure it tastes bad at times but it's not absolute shit. Personally, I don't eat airline food that much because the plane's rocking motion and incredible velocity makes me sick and messes with my stomach. It's especially annoying when I wake up and food comes, which is when I feel extremely cranky.

For those reasons, personally I eat at the airport prior to boarding the plane. Before I left Florida, I ate some chicken in McDonalds and drank a lot of soda so that I can stay full in the plane. Throughout the whole ride, I slept like a baby, and before I knew it I was back in Philadelphia as if no time passed at all. I didn't feel hungry either. Alternatively, I stock up chocolate milk and put it in the bag (after passing security of course) so that I can drink that while in the air. Don't like airline food? Eat before boarding the plane, and bring snacks and drinks to munch on too.

You guys need to get your asses on Business class and try their food. It is THE SHIT. The food is amazing, and they offer a crap load of fancy wines. After the meal they offer delicious dessert (did I spell it right?). They also have a nice snack bar, which I was munching on for most of the ride. Along with that the seat is amazing for it can lean all the way back to nearly 180 degrees as if it's a bed, and you get your own TV. Overall it was the best plane experience ever, although I got lucky for receiving the complementary pass to the Business class. If you get the opportunity to ride Business class, by all means TAKE IT.

Response to: Apple Hates Flash Posted March 21st, 2011 in General

At 3/17/11 11:45 PM, Space-Whale wrote: that article said flash was unstable
ive only ever had one problem with flash

Flash is indeed quite unstable, depending on how fast your computer is. My parent's office computers can run many flash applications and never crash. However an old computer we had always crashes when flash is used. Seeing the newer computers are more powerful, running flash shouldn't be a problem nowadays. Plus Adobe is improving their flash player with updates, so it will get there.

If you never use flash, I recommend uninstalling it. Your browser speed will increase dramatically like lightning.

On topic regarding the Apple devices, I really think flash should be supported, only if it becomes more efficient. Right now having flash in the iPhone/iPod is not so good of an idea. Even when using the powerful computers, they become really REALLY hot. They even become noisy too. If flash was to be put in the Apple devices, they would become so hot that you can't even pick it up and hold it. It also would become annoying to other people when used in public. Not only that, the battery will drain rapidly and will be ruined as well because of the rapid discharging and recharging. Even if we ignore all of the above, Internet browsing would become a slow laggy and preposterous process since a lot of annoying things, such as ads, utilize flash. It wouldn't be a nuisance if flash is only used for videos, games, chat, etc.

Overall, flash on Apple devices is not a good idea. I don't want to burn myself while picking up my phone, nor do I want my phone to last for like 10 minutes before dying. Maybe when the processor of the Apple devices improves and flash becomes more efficient, flash will be a welcoming addition. Until then... No.

Pancakes or Waffles?

Pancakes. Just like you said, making the first meal of the day crunchy is uncomfortable. I generally don't like waffles that much because of that. Plus waffles are too thick... I can't even get them into my mouth sometimes even after cutting them into small pieces. Speaking of cutting even that is difficult too.

Pancakes are nice and soft, and sometimes even dissolves in the mouth, which feels good. Why bite on something so hard when your teeth are somewhat sore from the sleeping? Plus pancakes can soak up the syrup and be more sweet. Waffles don't do that since they are hard and crunchy. Plus I feel that waffles stay hotter for longer period of time than pancakes, which burn.

The only waffles I like are those mini-waffles. Those are pretty good. The normal sized waffles are a nuisance to eat.

In terms of breakfast eating, I still think waffles, pancakes and french toast are not good breakfast choices. Primarily because of the syrup, not the pancake or the waffles themselves. You just brushed your teeth... and now you're going to eat something that is soaked in sugar... does it make any sense? Unless you're going to be aggressively critically thinking or working out and need a lot of energy, eating anything with syrup is not the best breakfast. Of course, it's better than skipping breakfast...

Response to: Nuclear Energy Posted March 20th, 2011 in Politics

At 3/13/11 10:57 PM, orangebomb wrote: how to deal with nuclear waste away from the people.

How does expelling the radioactive waste into space work? Is it still harmful?

Even with all that, I'm a big proponent of nuclear energy because the benefits of cheap and plentiful power outweigh the risks, and it is a viable option to coal and oil power plants, compared to solar and wind power {in terms of cost.}

Your thoughts?

Nuclear energy is alright. It has it's own drawbacks. Personally I think it's a potential source of energy for a certain period of time. It doesn't release carbon dioxide, so that's good. But there's a lot of issues with it. What do we do if we have too much radioactive waste? What if we run out of dumping sites? How will we dispose of then then? Plus, like you mentioned, there is always a failure rate, and also it's a good place for terrorists to steal uranium/plutonium needed to make nuclear bombs.

Nuclear plants also need cooling water to cool down the plant. This will harm rivers and destroy fish populations by warming up rivers. Nuclear plant lifespans are like 50 years

I think a nuclear fusion plant is perfect for our world. With a fusion plant, we can use the hydrogen in water molecules and smash them together with elections to make helium or other atoms, and the reaction will yield a massive amount of energy. We can then use that energy to power homes. There wouldn't be any byproduct either. Unfortunately to cause the fusion we need the internal plant temperature to be as hot (if not then even hotter) as the core of the sun, which is like 100,000,000 degrees Celsius. If we overcome that, we'll have enough energy to power the world. I'm sure we'll get there eventually, but not yet though.

If we run out of fossil fuels, nuclear energy is probably our best bet to power up the world. Solar and Wind power are nowhere close to supplying enough energy, unless their efficiency can be increased. For now, coal and oil is probably best for the byproduct of burning coal is less harmful than the nuclear waste byproduct of nuclear power plants. I mean radioactive waste is nasty. When fossil fuels run out, it's time to turn to nuclear fission plants to supply electricity until fusion or something more efficient and profitable comes out.

Then again I could be speaking out of my ass this whole time. If I said anything stupid or illogical, feel free to enlighten me (this is my first post in Politics forum).

If we could cover our planet's surface COMPLETELY with solar panels for one day, we would have received enough energy for the whole world to last for an entire year.

At 3/20/11 05:25 PM, fearout wrote: Which thing is bigger.. Power or Wealth ?

I believe wealth is bigger, for wealth yields power. Like how the tanning industry, for example, corrupts the congress with billions of dollars to prevent anti-tanning laws to be put in place. Rockefeller had an oil monopoly and controlled all oil prices and stuff until the Supreme Court broke it up.

Those with power are usually hated. The cops are hated when they give out tickets or drug dealers and parties are busted. Obama is hated by most people for "not doing anything". I hate my township for sending in a bullshit $100 alarm registration form (if you have an alarm here you have to register it with the township and to register you must pay $100). The mods here are hated by butthurt users. It goes on and on. People with power are more hated than liked, generally speaking.

Wealth is bigger in my opinion. You can do a lot of shit with wealth. If you want power, you can use your wealth to gain power (in unjust methods though). If you prefer not to have power, you can use your wealth to improve your life and/or other people's lives. In essence, both of them are intimately related. Wealthy people (celebrities, sports players, business owners, etc) for instance, appear a lot on the internet in news articles. They are all over the media. So they (indirectly) have power.

Anyway, short and sweet, wealth is bigger than power.

Does anyone remember the Twilight vs EpicFail fight last year where both of them beat the crap out of each other? If one of them posts in a thread the other will call him out and start a fight. Then everyone else would join the drama and nobody paid attention to the OP. Until Evark finally had put a cap on that shit once and for all.

Those BBS nomination threads for mid-year and end-year nominations also can become messy.

Davidzx was a drama queen and stirred up a lot of nonsense in the PalTalk thread, and in the BBS nominations award thread. I read the whole PalTalk thread before David's deletion, and it was not pretty. Drama queens as a whole are enough to ruin a thread.

In the video games forum fanboys or haters cause a lot of derailing in any thread. Look in any Sonic thread for instance. You'll rarely see one that is free of derailing attempts.

Unopened items Posted March 20th, 2011 in General

How many of you have gifts or items that are still in their original packaging ever since you bought or received the item?

Just yesterday when the moon was big I opened up a pair of binoculars that was still in its original packaging since Christmas of 2007.

A few months ago I opened up a digital alarm clock that was in a messy box full of crap for 2 years.

There is a 4 foot (1.3 meter) stack of packaged looseleaf lined paper since 2008 in my closet. Right next to that are 20 notebooks, 15 blank posters, and 5 rolls of giftwrap bought in 2005. In another closet there are still 5 unopened photo albums.

That's just a smattering of many things in my house that are unopened. Now it's your turn: Name some items you have that have been unopened for over a month. Provide pictures if you want. I'm sure everyone has at least one thing they haven't opened for a long period of time.

Milk is the my favorite. Especially chocolate milk. That stuff is sweet and healthy too. In fact I love milk so much that when I go to buy school lunch I buy school 2 bottles of milk and call it a meal. It is much cheaper than a crappy pizza that's 3 cm in length in the middle (in other words, a very small pizza). The two milks cost $1 while the pizza costs $2.50.

Since that date I have compressed my lunch money consumption from $30 a month to $15 a month, which is good since On top of that, the two milks are more satisfying and nutritious (60% calcium for the day) than the pizza, and if I don't feel hungry I can drink them in my next class. When I had my dental surgery, my source of energy was milk since I wasn't allowed to drink anything acidic. Thus I stockpiled the calcium for sure.

Another thing that is good are those nutrition shakes that contain like 30% of most vitamins everyone needs as a human. Man that stuff is amazing, despite that they are expensive. Even so, they are more profitable to consume than buying a school lunch, which is almost compiled of cheap crap.

pfht.

It's not that the medal point system is flawed. The medal points are just there for show-off purposes only. They also are used to help the author's chances to get his/her flash on the top 50 so that it will attract medal whores and yield plenty of 5's (pretty devious scheme).

Hardcore statwhores will do anything to get as many medals as possible to flaunt to other users. Some users like to compete with other users for points just for the sole purpose of competing. I even remember one guy last year asking the BBS for easy medal games for he had to compete with an IRL friend of his for most medal points in a week.

If you don't feel like showing off your medal points, then don't bother killing yourself for just a medal. You won't profit from it anyway, and I highly doubt there will be a rewards system for it anyway due to the exploding volume of medal games. Probably next year everyone could put medals in their games without admin approval, which will make a rewards system even more unlikely.

I browse NG from the iPhone most of the time. I have to admit it actually sucks, though not by much. The BBS is alright, but when I get to the bottom the links to the next/back page(s) are messed up. It appears below the layout. The flash pages are also OK, although they are pointless since the iPhone doesn't allow flash to be played. The only submissions viewable is art.

I also get annoyed when I try to deposit, for it is tedious to go back and forth between flash submissions. Although it has a tab system, when I open 5 tabs, and then go back to deposit, the phone refreshes the page, which is irritating. Plus posting from the iPhone is annoying because of the tiny virtual keyboard it has.

The text on NG is also huge, which is good I suppose. But it still messes up some of the layout.

The really annoying part is when I go on the BBS the time and date listed for when each post was made is orange, so if I click on it, the phone thinks I'm calling someone of that number. So in the Flash Forum as I look at it now, the 3/19/11 04 part is highlighted. It's quite distracting. The user base list is HUMONGOUS.

When I try to flag a review I accidentally click the useless button, which gets on my nerves a lot.

It's good for browsing, but if you're planning on doing work like posting then it's really annoying.

For every person you want to quote, right click the "Reply & Quote" button, click "Open new tab", copy the material in the form, and paste it in the blank reply form. Repeat the process until finished, and complete your post) you'll rarely reach the limit. Plus these forums don't get to the point where a post is made in each thread every second anyway.

My god that's one messy as hell room. How the hell did you even get it to be that big of a mess? My room is not even as messy as yours and I think it's a disaster.

1. Put the trumpet away. Why is it lying carelessly in your bed?

2. Put your books and binders away in their appropriate locations (bookbag, shelf, etc)

3. Put your clothes, jackets, etc all away in the closet or wherever they belong

4. Coil up all wires and put them away (wherever you see fit)

5. Get your bags together. Seriously why do you have so many of them?

6. Make your bed. A messy bed is enough to classify as a messy room.

7. Clean up your work station near your computer. You have too many things out.

8. Keep all drawers closed. That's one of my methods of bullshitting when cleaning up my room. A closed drawer implies everything inside is organized, and also isn't distracting.

9. Keep the central area of your floor clean (or better yet, keep your whole floor clean from items). Avoid putting things in the floor, for if laziness kicks in you won't be assed to bend over and pick things up.

10. Throw away useless things. I threw out a lot of boxes, CD player, items (well not really threw it out, but gave it to my sister and parents) and now my room is easier to manage. Put things you don't use in the attic, basement, or wherever your family stores useless stuff. I had a chemistry kit since 2009 and I took it in the basement.

Go do everything listed above. Any mess left over should be easy to figure out as to where it goes.

I was bored

You can see it right here to prove it.
Clickkkk~

It's probably one of those search links where you hover your mouse over and it displays a little box showing advertising sites (like how email providers underline words in your email messages, and when you put your pointer over them it shows advertising sites) or something stupid. Some program in your computer

In other words, I believe you have spyware. I suggest you download a spyware scanner and scan your computer instantly. Hell one time there was this spyware installed in my FireFox browser where on top of every page on NG (and on most other sites) it shows stupid ads, and they were impossible to remove. At first I thought it was NG, but I checked my add-ons page and there the shit was, with the uninstall button grayed out (sneaky bastards). Spybot (like someone linked) removed it though. I would also be on the lookout for other odd things in your browser and in other applications so that your computer doesn't crash and fail to start up the next time you turn it on (hey it's possible).

Note that you may have installed something legitimately that causes that. For instance, Megaworld (like MegaUpload, etc) has a program (named MegaKey or something like that) you can install where it will grant you all its premium features, but the program will spew ads on every site you visit (and will block the other sites' ads) to compensate for your use of the premium features. Chances are you have malware, but it could be a program similar like that which is causing it too.

In any case, it's still recommended to download an anti-spyware program (choose one; don't download 2 or more for they all might destroy each other).
