I'm just getting back into flash and I've been having this problem with my hitTests.
I distinctly remember having this problem before but I can't remember how I solved it. Was wondering if anyone knows the fix? I've tried upping to fps but nothing changes.
The basic problem is that when my "player" object gets to a wall, it goes just a little bit too far before the hitTest kicks in, so it ends up sticking out of area its allowed to walk on .
Heres a swf to better demonstrate it, forgive the crappy art, this is just for me to test AS stuff again cos I am rusty as hell:

Also, DO NOT do this, it's terrible practice, it might be a little annoying if you aren't doing things in a standard way, but you really should be referencing these things in an array and accessing them through that, it's just ugly and hacky to achieve the goal in this manner.
This is true, and I did realise that an array would be preferable. The problem is I don't know if arrays can contain mcs?
As far as I know in flash, they can handle any data type or object.
If this is true then I shall change them all to arrays and be done with this bollocks :P
I find when I get to that point in the project when you've desgined all you can and all thats left is just implementing all the content I tend to get a bit bored.
I then try to find a reason to submit it and work under pressure till that point. For example I am getting a plane to the other side of the world 2morrow >.<
Perhaps something along those lines? (not that extreme ofc).
Btw, I'm not going across the world cos of the flash ^^
Pretty much the same error. This time I have a bunch of global variables, i_1 to i_6. Sorry if I seem extremly ignorant. Could someone link me to some kind of API or tut on this stuff?
I don't want to have to come running back to the forums just cos I don't understand the required syntax if at all possible. I know it annoys me when people do that.
Sorry to be a bother but I'm having problem with the following lines of code:
for(i=1;i<7;i++){
["item"+i].gotoAndStop(1);
}
Essentially I have 6 item mc's named item1 up to item6. I want this code to get them all to go to their first frame. The error I am recieving is that it doesnt like the full stop and it also is not expecting the last } in the entire code (this error vanishes though when I comment out the contents of the loop).
I am obviously doing something wrong, but its very difficult finding tuts for this (as I have no idea what the method is called).

I think I am ok with actionscript
No you are not. If you don't know how to solve a BASIC problem like that then you obviously need to learn a LOT more before you can even think of creating an RPG.
1. draw an object
2. press F8
3. name it and select button
4. select it and press F9
5. place the actionscript we've given you there
6. remember to change the over, down and hit frames of the button

Ipod = fail
I have tried nearly everything now and I'm posting here as a last resort. I have an old 40GB ipod which is having some problems. When I turn it on it freezes on the apple logo. When I plug it into computer I also get the apple logo but my computer doesn't detect it at all. Any ideas as to how I can get it to work or what source of the problem is?
Is your warranty still valid? Ipods have a chip that are set to fuck its shit up the moment ur warranty expires.

Gee, how nice of you to tell us.
I think everybody on this forum goes 'flashing'.
As well as probably over 85% of the people here on newgrounds.

Well im making a sort of ragdoll game and i was wondering how would you center the ragdoll to the stage so the stage could be scrolling? for example you throw him and see how much dmg you get etc.
also how would i make it so you can only hold on the ragdoll for a certain time? thanks.
So basically you want us to tell you how to make the key elements of your game?

no u cant
because Linux is an operating system which keeps changing since everyone has acess to the code ffor it. And so it would be pretty hard to make a program which would run on all versions of Linux (theres hundreds or maby even thousands of version of Linux because of the open source code)
the short answer is no.
and u could just get a mac or pc
You have no idea how linux distros work do you? For the most part the kernals are essentially the same.

I thought it was about babbling incoherently about a million different topics. None of which about flash itself.

He's a reach-around whore.
You do realise you have to give him a reach around right?
