Response to: Dimrain47 - Stolen Composition Posted July 27th, 2006 in Audio

Although the melody is similar, and possibly even copied, there is no reason to X this. Although he didn't credit the other song, theres nothing there that makes me think that he meant to copy it.

It's just as likely that he came up with a melody that - by chance- turned out to be near exactly the same.

Also, he didn't use any of the origional material from the recording, so he didn't actually steal anything.

Response to: Save the Audio Portal Posted July 26th, 2006 in Audio

Psycologically speaking, voting on the flash portal is a lot different to voting on the audio portal.

Lets look at this systematically.

50 mediocre quality (3.00 range) flash are submitted and 50 mediocre quality (3.00) range audio tracks are submitted

In the flash portal, theres a good chance a user could like everything they see, or at least vote posotively because, if they belive a flash will go in, they will get a protection point. There would be no reason to zero-vote any of the flash that are all 3.00 quality worth as any portal user would be able to spot that they wern't going to be blammed.

On audio however, people have very set likes and dislikes. It is far less likely for somebody to vote on the quality of the song than it is likely for them to simply vote on it comparing it to the kind of music they listen to. Since a lot of teenagers these days (that made me sound old.) like the sort of punk/rockish stuff, and the majority of punk rock on NG is either poorly recorded or terrible garageband attempts, it is likely for those users to vote low on everything, even tracks that are technically good.

Response to: Midi -to- Mp3 Posted July 26th, 2006 in Audio

Search for midi on the bbs. I've posted this little guide countless times showing, in step by step methods, how to convert a midi to a wav using audacity.

Response to: must find...Kingdom Hearts music :( Posted July 26th, 2006 in Audio

Find a midi and convert it to wav. Much eaisier. The mp3's will be copyrighted therefore sharing them will be illegal.

Do you play the turntables...are they're techincally an instrument?

Not by definition, for something to be an instrument you have to at least be able to control the pitch.

I envy you, I really do.

From what I have gathered, the buttons on the left (right?) control the chords while the piano keys on the right (left?) play the melody... best bet would be to fiddle around to see what you can get.

LOL. You actually downloaded Bonzai Buddy?

As for TTS, search for speakonia, it's free and pretty good, or you coulds use a rather complicated setup to self-record your audio output and go to control panel/speech where you can get the ventrillo style TTS application - That dosn't save as wav though, so you have to self record it.

Response to: Reason 3.0/Ableton Live + keyboard Posted July 25th, 2006 in Audio

Reason 3 has the best compatability with control surfaces I've ever seen. Its the only program I knowof that quickly autodetects them and actually lets you connect/move them about without having to restart the program. If you get a USB keyboard that it recognises, setup is really easy as it works all the controls for you. If you have an unrecognised or standard midi keyboard, it just makes a generic device that responds to all the features that the keyboard has. Either way, its completely automatic - If you have a keyboard plugged in, reason will detect it and make it work right away without any human intervention.

just for a little insight, the official propellerheads team use Evolution (which is an m-audio brand) in their promotions, tutorials and for their own work. I don't really know why that have that preference, although I do have an evolution mk461 myself and it totally rules.

I'm not sure if evolutions are available in the states though...

Either way, I recommend either m-audio or evolution.

You can use: this tool. It has a quite exhaustive database of DVD/CD sizes, as well as the cases, larger boxes and DVD boxes. Very useful little thing.
