Depends on your starting knowledge.

If you know how to compose theoreticaly (as in music theory) then you go for programs like reason and cubase. If you want to make music in a more visual intuitive (and definatly eaisier to learn, and very powerful, even for beginners) then you go for programs like FL.

Response to: Need Piano Software... Posted September 9th, 2005 in Audio

Reason 3's 'Concert Grand Piano' .cmb patch is one of the most realistic sampled pianos that i've ever heard. I've used it for performances standalone.

Response to: mp3 compression? Posted September 9th, 2005 in Audio

I wouldnt reccomend using a VBR for submission to the audio portal. I've witnessed instances of when music with different bitrates sounds slowed down or sped up while using the built-in flash preview button, but fine when downloaded.

Response to: exporting sound effects? Posted September 9th, 2005 in Audio

Get an emulator for the game console you wish to emulate, and roms. Note that roms are fee for 24 hours and then you must delete them, unless you own the respective game. With emulators such as snes9XW, its possible to isolate and record sounds. A lot of games also have 'sound tests' as extra features, so if possible, you could use that to mass-record all the sounds you need.

Dont forget you need music for a vg parody. [hint signature link hint]

Response to: how do you make the music Posted September 9th, 2005 in Audio

To be able to make superior music with any program, including fruityloops, you really need to have at least some degree of therory knowledge of music and a grade in instrument playing. I started at grade 5 piano, now at grade 7 (ABRSM, not sure what to compare it to) and using a midi keyboard allows you to be a LOT more creative in tracks.

Response to: FL Studio Posted September 9th, 2005 in Audio

i always use cubase sx3 with reason, tis a deadly combination, £1,200 of software bundled as one. I didnt think fl was very big on the midi scene anyway.

Response to: how to get gold, platinum etc. recor Posted September 8th, 2005 in Audio

Not if you advertise in the audio joint or the audio advertisement thread. you can advertise in your sig as much as you want, and in other peoples posts, and as long as its in context, they shouldnt mind. For example, if sombody is looking for a track of music, reccomend yourself :D

Response to: Fantastic Audio Page! Posted September 8th, 2005 in Audio

both accounts have audio submissions, which is interesting. Surely if you wanted to submit music, you would put it all on one account. Maybe hes just a little bit young/immature/impressionable.

Response to: proof FL doesnt suck Posted September 8th, 2005 in Audio

Second that, and its given FL a bad name, to a degree. Once you hear stuff by people like bounce, you start to realise how good it can actually be.

Response to: how to get gold, platinum etc. recor Posted September 8th, 2005 in Audio

Post a lot in the forums. Don't advertise your tracks, but if you act maturely, spell correctly, help anyone who needs it and limit the flaming, people check out your stuff. Put a link in your sig and post.

Response to: I need music (again) Posted September 8th, 2005 in Audio

Theres this magical little feature called the search button! Its amazing, just click it, type what style of music you want (loop is a safe bet) and then up pops a list of tracks rated from best to worst!

In otherwords, use mine :P

i've heard of programs that do that for you... not that i'd suggest using them. I've been on the AP for almost 10 months, and i got my first gold a few days ago. Heres my personal meathod of getting your audio noticed:

1: Produce lots of tracks
2: Produce several high quality video game loops from commonly animated games, like mario, zelda, sonic
3: If the audio gets used in a good flash, more people start using it
4: if more people start using it, more people see a link to your audio
5: if more people see a link to your audio, the more people review/download your music.

Soundblaster live =24 bit Soundcard, and i'm pretty damned certain it comes with creative media source which has a standalone mp3 encoder.

Thanks for that, i tried it, and now i've got one broken mic and no sound.

Response to: Music Editing help Posted September 8th, 2005 in Audio

I know it can be done, the only way i think of doing it is to actually edit the track up into sections then use streaming audio, but i'm almost certain that would leave stutters in the soundtrack. Then again, i do all my animations in movieclips, as opposed to scenes, it lets you fade between different parts eaisly, and have a master sound track that you can edit eaisly, while also giving you the chance of rearanging parts of the scenes. but i havnt animated for a long long time...

Anyway, flash 8 is out soon, so maybe there will be a way. If following the trend of flash seven though, it will not be the slightest bit reverse compatible, and you'll have to remake everything. Good luck!

Response to: Mp3 to WAV converter Posted September 8th, 2005 in Audio

If you want to make good music, you need to dish out some money, but only if you intend to take it on proffesionaly. Heck, i didnt buy reason 3 for nothing.

Response to: Mp3 to WAV converter Posted September 8th, 2005 in Audio

step 1: Buy a soundblaster live for $40.
step 2: laugh as it comes with a freeware anything to anything sound converter.
step 3: avoid all the spyware and adware commonly attached to such programs on the internet.

If anything, i'd reccomend searching for freerip. Its a bit compilcated, but i used it for mp3 conversions for a while before i had my audigy

Response to: Piss of(f) the Day Posted September 8th, 2005 in Audio

Tracks which are voted around 3.2 to 4.9 are usually better than those voted 5. Anything with an irregular decimal place normally suggests its been voted for more than other tracks, and probably in a much more fair way.

If music was voted for properly, it would be impossible to keep a score of 5.0, as there would be a handfull of people who would vote 3's and 4's, if the track really was that good.

Response to: Paragon I need you for this one... Posted September 8th, 2005 in Audio

I vote for taking the music off completely. after spending 10 months submitting and producing soley for the audio portal, the word 'annoying' comes to mind, not that its bad music, paragon is the one who inspired me to buy reason. Lets put it this way, you dont have a flash movie at the top of the flash portal (with exceptions to the silent banner).

Then again, nobody cares.

Response to: .CDA format Posted September 8th, 2005 in Audio

CDA's are data entries on a cd telling the computer where the audio is. Thats why, if you take a CDA off of a cd, it will be only a few KB large, and will be unplayable. To make CDA's, simply burn the sound or music to a cd, and make sure you finalise to an audio CD format. To extract music off a CD, you need to use a tool capable of ripping. WMP is capable of doing it, but its notmally better to use an editing tool like soundforge, as this allows you to set compression options.

Response to: Audio Compression, I need help. Posted September 8th, 2005 in Audio

Make sure the music is set to stream. That means that only audio that exists in the timeline is compressed to the file, so instead of saving the full track, it only saves the bits you use.

Also try going to file>publish settings, clicking the SWF tab and checking out the sound quality section. Making sound mono litteraly halves the filesize needed.

bouce is one of those people everyone looks up to, especialy those on fruityloops. Every tool should have a god. Fruityloops has bounce, Reason has Paragonx9... acid has... umm...

Response to: proof FL doesnt suck Posted September 7th, 2005 in Audio

once again its all a matter of preference, and no doubt this thread is going to end with some kind of argument.

If you want to make trance/techno/modern music, you use fruityloops. If you have little/no previous experience, you use fruityloops because it is undoubtably the eaisiest to learn. If you have previous experience and want somthing with a bit more flexibilty, you use reason or cubase. There is no true program that is better, it all depends on how you use it. I'm sure many would argue that Fruityloops is more of a toy than other software, but its cheap, works, and is very powerful in the right hands.
