Response to: Wii Cod Black Ops Thread Posted November 14th, 2010 in Video Games

I'm actually considering getting Black Ops on the Wii just for lulz. I don't understand why PC elitists get so emotional about someone getting FPS games on consoles, or mentioning them for that matter. Not their money spent if someone else gets it for consoles. Oh boo freakin' hoo, some guy bought an FPS game on a console. The world's gonna end if someone does that.

Response to: Metroid Posted November 14th, 2010 in Video Games

I don't believe in good video game movies. There MIGHT be a few, but not really that I know. The Mortal Kombat movie sucked, the Street Fighter movie sucked, the Doom movie sucked, the RE movie was meh, and the Super Mario Bros. movie was meh if you didn't look at the game-adaption aspect of it. A Metroid movie would just not do right. And beyond that, Samus would more than likely monologue through the entire bloody movie *cough* Other M *cough*.

TL;DR - Game-movie adaptions only add more ka-ching to Hollywood's already bulging pocket, and thus no quality is made to them.

Response to: People Love A Video game... Posted November 13th, 2010 in Video Games

People's opinions =/= an editor's opinions. Modern Warfare 2 got insanely positive scores but there's people that hate it (myself included). When you have a game that's insanely good or horridly crap, there will always be people who absolutely hate it or love it, respectively.

An editor's opinion isn't law, which is why I try games before buying them instead of basing on reviews. Who knows, maybe I'll like it when everyone else hates it or hate a game everyone else likes. Nobody's opinion will always be the same, even if the game really is bad or very good by fact (i.e. comparison).

That's actually supposed to happen. This happens so you can see your character and stuff happening inside homes or where walls block the screen or character. You can turn it off somewhere in the options menu, but don't complain to me when you can't see your character well.

Also, saying anything is better on consoles than the PC version is blasphemy at best.

Get the new black ones if you're so scared of the RRoD. I've had a white one since 2008, never once red ringed or had permanent damage. Just don't tip them over when you have a disc running in it.

Response to: New Vegas is way better than an 8.5 Posted November 9th, 2010 in Video Games

8.5 =/= bad game. Plus, it's just an opinion. I've played games I loved that got 4s, and hated games that got perfect 10s. It's just an editor's opinion. You shouldn't really care. They're only for help in fore-notice, just noting to you if it sucks or plain-out rocks before you spend the big bucks on a new game.

And having the best native library of games on any system there is or will be (this is actually an objective fact if we want to start comparing, count for count, the number of outstanding games the PC has gotten in the past two and a half decades as opposed to the typical five-year cycle for consoles).

Emulation is kinda flimsy for newer consoles, and even with a high-powered PC you're not going to get as much performance out of it than the console itself (for the time being, that is). I've seen emulations of Super Mario Galaxy that are rather meh at best.

And having the best version of DOOM, and the universe of mods for it.

That be true. FPS and RTS games have the mouse, every PC FPS fan's tool of the trade. That and money. *hurr* I think the only control method that can be used in an RTS better than a mouse is touch support: simply touching the screen without dragging a mouse around. For the RTS freaks, every second counts in a match, and shave off some time by just tapping with your finger.

And having the ability to play Cave's entire library pre-2001. (Ketsui and DDP DOJ coming in a few years!)

Never really played those Japanese shoot 'em ups. That's more of a fan thing, not a bragging thing for PC. I've played some 'shmups on consoles, I had no troubles.

You can plug in an Xbox 360 pad, a Sixaxis, even a fucking Wiimote if you have the drivers and, in the latter case, Bluetooth, and use those to play anything you want to.

Well, that kinda defeats the purpose of a PC, don't you think? I mean, if I spent good money on a PC, why would I be bothered with a controller when I got keyboard and mouse? It's stupid to have controller support (unless it involves platforming, to which keyboards suck major dick on that part).

Also, I cannot think of five console to PC adaptions that weren't better on PC. The only exception that comes to mind is Resident Evil 4, and perhaps Crazy Taxi 3 although that was a shitty game to begin with. The recent console to PC ports have been fucking near-perfect, with Street Fighter IV running at a constant 60 FPS in high-res. Something no console in this generation can do.

You still need a good card, which costs money, decent money. Not all games run at a full 60 FPS on any Radeon card *cough* Crysis *cough*. PC games do have better consistency, graphics-wise. But to care that much about graphics? Meh. I just play games to have fun, I guess that's why I'm tolerate of consoles moreso than you. I played Left 4 Dead 2 on 360. I had a freakin' blast. It's all personal preference, really.
Also, the PS1 PC ports of Final Fantasy VII, VIII, Metal Gear Solid, and MGS2 were bloody horrid. Sometimes games just have to stick with consoles.

Also, the PC has the best online functionality.

There's a blurring border for consoles with online functionality, with both doing the same thing: buying games online, downloading/installing games, internet browsing, and online chatting. PC does some things more like Steam's clan thing and SDK development tools available on the fly. 'Course, people use the internet on their computer moreso than a console (which is a dumb thing to have on a GAME CONSOLE), so you're right, but it goes more outside of games.

I'd love to hear your arguments on the other side.

Consoles are just cheaper for consumers of the now. Though you can get a good rig for roughly $500 to $700, it's still a more substantial price and investment than a console for $200 or $300. That's why it appeals. While PC does have some cool stuff, its main purpose isn't for gaming. Not everyone uses a PC for gaming, and only graphics and mods are the high points of it. I'd imagine some people get tired of sitting at my computer all day playing the same FPS for 20+ years, seeing how people still play Doom to this day. Calling PC better is ignorance, IMO, though you did bring up some notable stuff. But, as I said, not everyone is power-hungry and just wanna play games for the fun of it, not to be enthusiastic about it. That's why consoles are here and why there not going anywhere.

TL;DR - PCs are for enthusiasts, consoles are for everyone else. But calling out consoles because PCs are more advanced in just graphics and modifications is dumb. The opposite is also true.

This is a really fucking stupid argument, btw

Wasn't this thread about Kinect? We sure derailed it to heck, didn't we?

CONSOLES:
Metal Gear Solid, Super Mario, Gears of War, Uncharted, God of War, LittleBigPlanet, Halo, Zelda, Burnout, Gran Turismo

PC:
Half-Life, Counter Strike, Team Fortress, Portal, Crysis, Monkey Island, Left 4 Dead, Doom, Unreal Tournament

Looks like if you pick one over the other you're gonna miss out on a lot of good games for both. I'm not saying that either one is better, I'm saying that PC elitists and console fanboys will never co-exist because they're too stubborn to realize that both offer a ton of awesome games and franchises. Picking one over the other is ignorance at best. If you were a real gamer, you'd appreciate all games made for all platforms, PC and otherwise. PC elitists and console fanboys will never be real gamers because they don't appreciate the other platforms' library of amazing games.

TL;DR : You're not a real gamer if you hate other platforms out of ignorance. Stop being elitist/fanboyish and play some PC/consoles for God's sake.

I believe there exists some kind of potential, but no developer has yet to even acknowledge it. When you have perfect 1:1 motions that make the game feel real without you looking like a dick, it can be awesome. But replacing mindless button mashing with mindless stick waggling isn't exactly pulling out innovation.

All I'm saying is that motion controls are possible for comfort and appeal to all audiences, but it's just too early to start replacing your own controllers.

But I suppose of gamers DO have issues with this motion control thing, they can always jump to PC. Nothing innovative comes out on it except purdy graphics and faster multimataskering. Same ol' keyboard and mouse for the past 20 years.
