Response to: C: The worst game you ever played Posted November 20th, 2010 in Video Games

The worst console game I've played was DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3. The gameplay was shallow compared to other DBZ games, and completely freakin' horrid compared to any fighter. The online was the biggest disappointment of the entire game. It was super slow (and this coming from a guy who plays TF2 on wi-fi) and unplayable. Worst piece of crap ever.

Response to: Your Favorite Tetris Posted November 20th, 2010 in Video Games

My all-time favorite version is the Game Boy version. It was so simple yet highly addicting. No confusing controls, no extended levels, just you and different pieces of four-block shapes. Simple and fun.

Second favorite... yeah, Tetris Friends. So many versions, so little time...

Try WeGame. It's pretty good and free. Google it. I've run it before, only issue I've had was that the sound would be off-sync after a couple of minutes (probably because I'm capturing more frames than the game is going at, IDK). It might just be an issue I'm facing with it, anyone else who has it can confirm or deny. Still, try it.

Excuse me, but not everyone has them fancy imaPods or Andermadroids. I'm always online, so why bother downloading stuff from a malicious site (to which I'm getting a song plus a free virus!), when I can just get music online?

I thought it was Episode 3.

Back on topic, I do like the franchise. When looking at the game, you don't really understand its potential. Watching playthroughs doesn't show you how fun the game is. I first played Half-Life 2. I watched a few videos before, didn't really interest me at first; it looked like any other FPS out there. When starting the game, you feel immersed. The rush of action and the scripted events during gameplay is exhilarating. The game is fully in first person -- the game has smooth transitions from one place to another. The only thing interrupting your fun is the loading times, which take about a few seconds depending on your CPU/console.

That's not to say that Half-Life has some issues. For one thing, there are parts which are platform-heavy, and first person and platforming don't mix all too well. The plot is a turn-off for some people. The plot, although simple in aspect, is just too mysterious. Four games in and we still don't know who the G-Man is, or exactly why he employed Gordon in the first place. It's still fun to play and understand, but there's just too many points unexplained. But I'm sure some dedicated fanboy who has done his/her/its homework will correct me for these things, so inb4 when that happens.

Having played Half-Life 2, I tried out the first Half-Life with a little lower expectations (for a game from 1998? Ha! I said). I was still blown away by how dynamic it is. For a 1998 game, it created a lot of cinematic events, even before games like Halo and Call of Duty. Again, epic gameplay with little interruption ('cept loading, which is even faster with this game lol). It's just thrilling and mysterious.

This is just one of my favorite games, not my all-time favorite (Super Mario 64 will never leave my sight). Still, both Half-Life and Half-Life 2 are worth playing and should be played by anyone with a decent head to be a gamer.

TL;DR - Half-Life is worth playing, and if you haven't tried it, do yourself a favor and FREAKIN' PLAY IT.

It's not trying to replace PC gaming, it's trying to replace consoles. Guess what: not all PCs are ultra-powerful gaming machines. PC gaming has always been fun, but not everyone who owns a PC has the right specs for newer games, or even games in general. This is an interesting idea to broaden PC gaming to those with limited PCs.

Notice how I said "idea." It is interesting. As an idea. But you might as well get a console. That's all it is really: a program trying to be a "console" but with keyboard and mouse support. PCs are mainly for enthusiasts. Come on, ask any PC fan, and they'll bash OnLive until the day after they die. PC elitists and/or fans think this concept should die in a fire and anyone who uses it should get a life and start saving for a real PC.

Response to: Giving Up Games For A Social Life Posted November 18th, 2010 in Video Games

Time management. There's time for games, there's time for social interaction. Just because you play games don't mean you are less social. I've met jocks who play Call of Duty, I've known most of my friends played Halo a lot, etc. etc. To most people, it's a hobby, and in a sense it should be (not to me, I'm taking into a career in game design). But playing games doesn't make you any less of a person than you are. Take both if you like both.

Also, cool story bro.

That's the problem with OnLive in a nutshell, really. But most of their games aren't really worth owning, IMO. You can rent them at least for $5 to $10 USD. Their collection is crap. I'd assume just to get a console for the games to be quite honest. I'm not one to gripe about "OMFG CONTROLLERS IN AN FPS U MUST DIE BY FIRE LULZ". But I am NOT you, and you'll probably hate me for my opinion as said.

Not new news, but still thread-worthy.

Anywho, I'm digging OnLive, though PC elitists hate it with a burning freakin' passion. So far the system is pretty decent. Still a few quirks here and there regarding connection type, but it's responsive enough for me.

I mean, I like the idea of broadening PC gaming, but there's a few down-points. For one thing, the games cannot be modded. This alone should put off any PC elitists. Secondly, it runs on your internet connection. So if you have crap internet, eh, more power to you. Controls are a tad delayed on demos, I've heard that the controls are better when the game is bought. IDK. You didn't hear it from me. And third, you don't really own the game itself; rather, you own a "pass" to play it as long as it's on their servers. So when you buy a game and it gets kicked off, boom, $20 down the drain. But their collection of games isn't really anything to go ga-ga about. I don't plan on playing Borderlands for more than a month or two, really.

All in all, it's a very interesting concept, but it's still got a long ways to go before it becomes anything "standard." If you have a high-end PC, OnLive is pretty useless to you. If you're like me who has a not-so-great graphics card or laptop, it's worth a try. IIRC, the service is free, so go ahead and check it out (if you don't have a gaming PC, that is).

Response to: Exceptional Wii Games? Posted November 16th, 2010 in Video Games

Pretty much any Wii game with the Nintendo publishing logo on it. Nintendo's third party support has always been crap since the N64. I do believe IGN's got a list of good Wii games. You can try looking there. I've heard that new Goldeneye game is pretty fun, might I suggest that?

The Wii's kinda doin' its own thing, leaving the HD consoles to battle while Nintendo's making money off the yang-yang on the sidelines. I don't compare it to other systems, and no one really should. It's Nintendo, for God's sake.

Goldeneye 007: I've missed out on the N64 game. So instead of getting the old one, I'll just check out the re-imagined version (I refuse to call it a remake). I need a game for the Wii.

Black Ops for Wii: just for lulz.

Halo Reach: I played the beta of it. It wasn't earth-shattering in any aspect, but still fun as heck. Had a great time on the beta, and I'd love to get Reach.

Bayonetta: Loved loved LOVED the demo and definitely want.

You'd probably have more fun with Kinect Sports, IMO. I don't know about Kinect Adventures, haven't really seen much of it, but looking from what I have seen, go with Kinect Sports.

I don't really hate Kinect; I just don't find the appeal. Microsoft is advertising it as if it's the next big thing since air. It ain't the first camera controller, and it certainly doesn't add a whole lot to the mix so far. Maybe I'm wrong, IDK, we'll just see in time. But with that price? Too much for me.

^ This. I thought that MW2 would be a good way of me trying to get into CoD. Boy was I wrong. I hate it.

Also, a big disappointment was Fable II. The main story's short and impossible NOT to die from it. You CAN die, but you revive on the spot with some XP loss. Not much of a challenge. I know that there's extra missions and quests and junk, but there's no real point to it now that I beat the main story. It feels like an MMO now. Blah.

Not to mention Sonic Unleashed. Need I say more?
