Topic: Thoughts on L4D2?

Posted: 11/13/09 10:43 PM

I got the pre-order from a friend, and I have to say I do enjoy it. I'm not comparing it to L4D, even though it is the sequel, I'm judging it as a new game. I've spent hours on the demo.

Not trying to be nostalgic in choice; but 64 was more memorable for me. I played Sunshine, and to be honest, I didn't like it. It didn't really capture me. Not because of difficulty, it was fairly easy. But I just remember 64 more. Galaxy disappointed me.

Samurai Warriors, I remember this one from a long time ago; I was playing as Hanzou Hattori, and there were generic troops, one of my battallion leaders was like "I'm down!" Or whatever, and it happened in front of me, while I was trying to help him; my mom's like "Good job!"

Another one, Half Life: Blue Shift, I was at the end, and my mom saw this, the scientists were talking to me, and they're like "Great job, Mr. Calhoun!" And my mom says "Who's Mr. Calun?"

I was playing Oblivion, I violated the law, resisted.. And Audens Avidius struck me with his hammer, I flew in to the air, and I was like "WTF?" Cause I couldn't see myself, and the camera was fixed.. Suddenly, I appeared WAY above the palace spire, and I fell all the way down, here's the thing, I lived, no cheats.

Saw a review for DoD:S, here's mine

Day of Defeat: Source

Valve is a company that produces top of the line games, Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike Source, to name a few. Day of Defeat was one of my favorite games, but the Source counterpart was just disappointing; there are few servers, it is way too casual, and the official maps are flat out boring, the only reason I got DoD:S was because it was in a pack of games. The sound and graphics are just fine, but the gameplay and replayability is terrible.

Sound: Hearing Nazis shout multiple commands in German while Americans are hailing bullets on them; sounds good, right? The sound is a good aspect of the game, but in my opinion, some of the guns are a bit quiet, and boring to hear, over and over again. Basically; the MP40 sounds like a watergun shooting bullets rather than a submachine gun, it's not a problem with my sound card, cause most of the other guns sound quite real. I wish some of them were a bit louder, but I can get over that. Also, the "Tink" you hear often from helmets getting struck is annoying.

8/10

Graphics: Pretty good, pretty good. Valve did a great job on the guns and player models, as expected. Although there is really not many differences in player models besides a few body changes, like a belt of ammo on the Machine Gunner's body, or the different helmet that the American Sniper sports, but the models do get boring after a while. On some maps, the trees look odd, it may be custom maps, it may be official maps. But this is an issue that gets to me. I'm sure it's not a problem with my video card, either; because other people commend on that.

7/10

Gameplay: Probably the most casual shooter I have ever played, and that is a bad thing. It does have realism, the WW2 soldiers can't take a lot of bullets like the Counter Strike people, in fact, one shot could do you in from any weapon if it's on the head, as far as I've seen. This is good and bad, because campers can shred you up from their hidden spots. I camped outside of a spawn, and I was able to pick off everyone with a German Rifle, which meant the Americans won, and all I had to do was kill the Nazis, and pick up their weapons when I ran low on ammo. This can get really annoying, the KAR is basically the AWP of Day of Defeat, small games are fun, large games are just ruined. Sure, it's trying to capture realism, but it is not a fun experience. And for new players; the learning curve is high, due to the pros out there, who will kill you with a Thompson before you can blink.

In the first DoD, there were British, American, and German teams, depending on the maps, but this one removed Brits, and instead stuck us with a repetitive experience.

4/10

Replayability: Basically what I mentioned in gameplay, you will get bored of this game after your first week, if you play it enough.

1/10

Final Notes: Get this if you have Garry's Mod, I suppose. The extra models make Garry's Mod 10 better. But if you want this just for the game, I would not recommend it, this is just terrible.

Overall Score: 5/10

I found my disc, got it working again. And I have the game again. Already beat it, I lead every faction but the Thieve's Guild, too much work; not enough rewards. I never really liked the stealing in that game, because the fences undercut the prices too much.

Morrowind.

Seriously, I think that Morrowind deserves a re-make, with even better graphics/physics than Oblivion, the world should be expanded, and the combat system should match Oblivion's.

I had so many skellies on the field. I had all the best gear, and even managed to get a few sols. I still got owned by every other class. Even if they were 20 levels lower.

Necromancers aren't a PVP class. They are good for just sitting and watching though :).

That's funny, cause I have a 40 necro that can pwn other classes much higher. All you have to do is get great gear, faster spellcasting gear, and bone prison/bone spirit them.

I have Diablo, Diablo: Hellfire, and the entire D2 War Chest. Yeah, I'm really good at that game, haven't really played online lately. Diablo 3, I hope it works. It seems to me that it could either be a resounding success or a crashing failure.

GTA was meant to be played fair and square. The cheats are in so you can basically screw around, like everyone else said. Just because you suck doesn't mean you should cry. If you want to cheat that badly, get GTA:SA for PC and use a trainer.. God.

Topic: Karma systems in games and you

Posted: 11/10/09 10:15 PM

Forum: Video Games

Fable's Karma System was pretty lame, and I really enjoyed the game. But, if you played The Lost Chapters; it was more than just appearance; but the Hero's motive seemed to be more on revenge rather than saving the world if you were evil. But in TLC, you can basically "Save the World be the good guy blablabla." or you can basically be Jack. But I do agree that the way the world works should change if you are basically omnipotent.

Karma systems in games like KOTOR worked a lot better; but what about Fallout 3? The Karma in that game was basically, to me, what followers you could have, and the way people talk to you. Because, in that game, you can talk good if you're evil and talk nasty if you're good; that disappointed me.
