Saw a review for DoD:S, here's mine
Day of Defeat: Source
Valve is a company that produces top of the line games, Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike Source, to name a few. Day of Defeat was one of my favorite games, but the Source counterpart was just disappointing; there are few servers, it is way too casual, and the official maps are flat out boring, the only reason I got DoD:S was because it was in a pack of games. The sound and graphics are just fine, but the gameplay and replayability is terrible.
Sound: Hearing Nazis shout multiple commands in German while Americans are hailing bullets on them; sounds good, right? The sound is a good aspect of the game, but in my opinion, some of the guns are a bit quiet, and boring to hear, over and over again. Basically; the MP40 sounds like a watergun shooting bullets rather than a submachine gun, it's not a problem with my sound card, cause most of the other guns sound quite real. I wish some of them were a bit louder, but I can get over that. Also, the "Tink" you hear often from helmets getting struck is annoying.
8/10
Graphics: Pretty good, pretty good. Valve did a great job on the guns and player models, as expected. Although there is really not many differences in player models besides a few body changes, like a belt of ammo on the Machine Gunner's body, or the different helmet that the American Sniper sports, but the models do get boring after a while. On some maps, the trees look odd, it may be custom maps, it may be official maps. But this is an issue that gets to me. I'm sure it's not a problem with my video card, either; because other people commend on that.
7/10
Gameplay: Probably the most casual shooter I have ever played, and that is a bad thing. It does have realism, the WW2 soldiers can't take a lot of bullets like the Counter Strike people, in fact, one shot could do you in from any weapon if it's on the head, as far as I've seen. This is good and bad, because campers can shred you up from their hidden spots. I camped outside of a spawn, and I was able to pick off everyone with a German Rifle, which meant the Americans won, and all I had to do was kill the Nazis, and pick up their weapons when I ran low on ammo. This can get really annoying, the KAR is basically the AWP of Day of Defeat, small games are fun, large games are just ruined. Sure, it's trying to capture realism, but it is not a fun experience. And for new players; the learning curve is high, due to the pros out there, who will kill you with a Thompson before you can blink.
In the first DoD, there were British, American, and German teams, depending on the maps, but this one removed Brits, and instead stuck us with a repetitive experience.
4/10
Replayability: Basically what I mentioned in gameplay, you will get bored of this game after your first week, if you play it enough.
1/10
Final Notes: Get this if you have Garry's Mod, I suppose. The extra models make Garry's Mod 10 better. But if you want this just for the game, I would not recommend it, this is just terrible.
Overall Score: 5/10
