Response to: Some pixels Posted July 20th, 2011 in Art

I think what Kuma is trying to say is that this is really simple pixel work, and is nothing to be impressed by.
I'm going to take a guess and say that you didn't spend more than an hour on these. Hell, I'd be surprised if it took you an hour for both.
Personally, I think its bad when you have a texture make up 90% of the "impressiveness" in your artwork. Because, let's be honest, when you remove the textures, there's not really anything about the pieces that make them, well, good. But hey, that's just me.
I hope that you have some more complicated and impressive pixelwork to show us, because it's not very interesting so far.

Response to: Searching for 2D Artist Posted July 20th, 2011 in Art

If you're looking for some artists to make a game with you, you should try the Movie/Game Art Request Thread in the Collaboration forum.
I realize you don't want to give too much information away (not like we'd steal them :P), but its a little vague as to what you want. Yes, an artist for games, but what style? How many games? (you seemed to mention quite a lot.) Is there a timeframe that you want all of this done in? You know, things like that :)
You should mention how the payment will be made as well, like if you are going only off of revenue or if the artist will be paid a designated amount, etc. Price (or a lack thereof) seems to be a real deal-breaker around here, just so you know. An artist (or everyone on the team, for that matter) can bust their ass making a game, and it goes nowhere, and it's a big loss for everyone. It's not easy to find an artist up to snuff that's willing to take a big risk.

Create the picture from scratch, all pixels, instead of converting a picture.

You should create a personal art thread to keep all of your pictures in instead of making multiple threads.
That aside, I really like your art. Has a funky feel to it :)

So wait, you are taking a MTG card and painting over it....
Why aren't yoou even drawing a card that fits with the original?
I.E. your Island card. A girl in her undies with crazy sweat-needles doesnt really count as an "island"
Basically all you are doing is using a random card and making sweaty anime porn, erasing the corner and saying "LOOK! MTG!!!"
Yeah, no.
Or any other picture of an Island MTG card, for that matter.

Response to: Test drive a painting program! Posted July 18th, 2011 in Art

i think it has potential, but you can certainly expand upon it.
for one, being able to make lines faster, like a "control" setting, would help. On my tablet, it is fairly easy and convenient to use, but it moves very slow, and when i make large, fast, arcing lines, it can't draw fast enough and looks weird. (for those of you with SAI, its like turning on the S-7 stablizer)
I also think being able to make some sharp angles would be nice. For instance, when I tried to draw spiky hair, it just ended up being loopy.
I tried to write in cursive, and the slow cursor movement also hampered the ability for that.
A bucket tool would be nice, as well as something like Flash's ability to draw inside, under, or in the selection of the lines.
Layers would be a cool function, as well as an Export ability. This has potential for a Lineart Program.
As you mentioned in the description, having an ability to Undo the Clear would be really nice.
I'm sure there are other things I can add but really can't think of them right now, might make another post later if I can think of more xD

Included: picture I made using the program.

Can it still be shot with the same amount of power and accuracy as before?

If not, I don't consider it a successful mod :/

You should try a color that would make your character stand out, such as an orangey background, instead of the adjacent purple which makes your hard work and beautiful detail fade and become less noticeable.
You should also work on shading and lightsources, as well as trying to create a reasonable color scheme for your drawings. By that I mean to point out the out-of-place red handle on the sword, and the change from chainmail to white pants on the lower body. Choosing 2-4 colors for the character (not including skin), and incorporating them into the clothing, hair, eyes, and accessories helps build a character, rather than slapping colors everywhere.

Idk, it isn't bad, but...
I think you should draw more inspiration from actual swords; it seems like you were going from memory.
For one, sword handles, even shortswords, have more room to hold it. I'm not even sure if I can fit one hand on that... making it longer would fix that issue. Plus the shape of it isn't very efficient, cone-shaped (see links below for a more realistic shape). Its also going diagonally a bit, which is noticeable and distracts from the piece. I think the star "gem" is a nice addition, but only if it is set in the sword, i.e. this or this or this.
Idk, you can always touch it up with a brush (or photoshop).

Response to: Picture drawn with a mouse Posted July 12th, 2011 in Art

Before you go and try to make "distorted" pictures, try to learn how to correctly apply anatomy and proportions. Even Tim Burton and Anusboy learned how to draw stuff correctly before developing their own unique twist that defines their art.
The way you are using "distortion" is an just excuse for your poorly drawn art, it isn't "skill" or "style".

I also made some sketches other than Posemaniacs studies n stuff. I was going to post them all separately but decided that by themselves they don't look like I put much effort into them, but as a group.... yessssss.... (I actually took 15-30 minutes on each, at least)
Higher Quality.
Just a couple of notes to go along with.
1.) Drawn before i drew the Posemaniac pictures. It's a pretty loose sketch that I play to finish someday.
2.) I am not really sure what this is or why I drew it. Just some crazy college partier, I guess. This was the first one drawn after the Posemaniacs set. Might finish this one as well.
3.) I really, really like this one. However, i think his arms are just a tad too long, and his left (our right) arm, I didn't know what to do with it. I wasn't going to draw it at all, but that'd look weird, so now its awkwardly hanging by his side :/
4.) Soccer!!!! :D I used a ref here for the pose (link), but ended up straying from it, which is where the weaker points are xP
Also, real soccer players don't need shinguards >:|

lol, I totes forgot to draw them xD

Might finish him too, after I make some major adjustments.
