step 1: f everyone because they're not as great as you are. I mean it's so great to idly float around in your own lake of greatness and being like yeah this is my lake of greatness go team I love what I do yay thank you everyone!!!!!! There's literally no other feeling like the one you get when you go y'know I'm done with this I'm just gonna be me I'm the princess.

I'm not sure if you're being facetious or something but I definitely agree with the first bit. Despair is actually healthy to delve into every once and a while, - I'd even argue it's what grounds us in our creativity - but that's the whole reason I made this thread, we needed something to contrast the other one. I may have gotten a little too over-enthusiastic about the "beauty of music" and whatnot but regardless, both threads are supposed to be taken with a grain of salt.

How to feel awesome as an artist Posted September 9th, 2014 in Audio

For a good laugh, I thought I'd post this here because that other thread is depressing as fuck and someone said it needs an antithesis. Gotta have that balance, yo.

I'm pretty new to music production but regardless I thought I'd start this list off.

How to feel awesome as an artist

1. With enough drive and enough time, you can reach and even surpass some of your favourite artists. Better yet, what you'll have made will be influenced by other artists and other aspects of your background, making your music utterly unique to you.

2. If you have been posting your music online for a while now, there's at the very least one person who strongly looks up to you and looks forward to what you're making next.

3. While it may feel cheesy to say, most of your family/friends are actually proud of you and your creations, whether it be their musical taste or not.

4. The resources for beginner muscians in today's world is at an all time high. You're reading this on the internet dude, use that new fangled google thing all the kids are talking about. You can learn about virtually any technique, sound design concept, instrument, VST, what have you, all you have to remember is to balance all this theory with actual practice as well.

5. As depressing as the concept of money running your life can be at times, as long as you have your instrument and that music buzzing in your head you are a musician - an artist - and no one can take that away from you.

6. Again, with the help of our friend the internet, people of all kinds of culture and musical taste can come upon your track. It used to be a problem when you were seemingly the only one in a farmer town that didn't like/play country, now you can have the encouragement of people who actually like your style regardless of where you're posting from (except maybe North Korea...)

7. You see all those unfinished project files? Unless you were paid to make them, there is absolutely nothing wrong with taking a break from them until you find the right inspiration, the same goes for if you never do. I've deleted so many old half-baked tracks but I think I may have revived close to the same amount by this point. One the same note I've also gotten stuck on tons of tracks that I'm anxious to finish. It's okay. No one is rushing you to finish everything you start.

8. And no one is expecting every track you make to be your best work. Sometimes it's actually beneficial to finish a song you're not too fond of, it can teach you a lot about 'redesigning' things to your liking as well as what does and doesn't sound good to you. Often a track will start quite boring, but after a while of playing around you can turn it into something acceptable. And if you can't there's no worries, there's nothing wrong with putting it to the side and restarting - or deleting it entirely for that matter.

9. There are new artists appearing every day, especially now that music production is becoming more and more accessible. Sometimes hearing something new and interesting is just the kicker you need to open up your DAW or grab your piano to write down a little melody, or experiment with a certain sound or process. Not to mention the opportunities for collaboration and the learning experience inside of that that comes with discovering great new artists.

10. Dude, you're making music. Why do I even have to outline what makes it great? Have you ever gotten into that zone where you're just working and time disappears, and for a little bit you effectively are the music? Like everything in life just melts away and the only thing that matters is this harmony in your ears, and all the vastly different and awesome places you can take it. It's like creating a universe. If you have not yet felt this but are passionate about music just keep going. 9/10 times making music I'm not coming up with anything that I even keep, but the few times where you can achieve this melody-induced nirvanna? To me that's enough to keep trying.

This actually wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. What do you guys think? What would you add? Y'know artists may feel pretty terrible sometimes, I've had my fair share of slumps (in music and among a ton of other things) but the concept of expression is just so uplifting IMO, I can never really stay depressed. This may sound like a lame point to those who have heard this before, but did you know that the same area of the brain that processes language is used to 'process' music? The fact that we can capture an emotion or a feeling or an event and translate that into music where other people can somewhat understand what you were getting at, even if it is just a little, it's just...it's fucking beautiful.

Stop getting so fucking sad, go write a song about it.

Notifications? Posted August 9th, 2014 in General

Hey, I've been somewhat busy these last 2 years and haven't been visiting NG as much as I used to and I just noticed that the notifications button that used to be up beside your name isn't there anymore. I was just wondering why that was taken out, I mean with no notifications why even become a fan of another user?

Also I hope this isn't the millionth time someone asked this. I already searched the forums for this topic but didn't see much about it so I thought I'd post.

Good luck everyone! The contest hasn't even started yet and I've already found a bunch of really skilled muscians and awesome songs through this thing.

no it's 47mb because it's not an mp3 file lmao
lol but soundcloud compresses audiofiles to 128 kbps so uploading a wav file there is a waste of time.

Wow, really? That's pretty lame.

Also...WHOOPS. Didn't even realize it was a .wav, disregard my last post.

lol here

Wow, it has to be pretty darn big in that case! In that case we're willing to accept it in another form, such as a ZIP file uploaded to a file-hosting site, or a SoundCloud upload. Preferably, find some way to put it on Newgrounds, whether it means cutting out the most important bits, lowering the quality, or just using another track, but if there's no other way then we'll make an exception!

Thank and yeah, 47.3MB, I guess because it has a lot of sampling. I would try and fiddle with the project but I just got a new laptop since my old one crapped out on me. I used to use pirated software for this back then, but now that I'm taking it a little more seriously I figured I'd buy everything. I bought and installed FL studio but have yet to buy Massive which pretty much all my sounds derive from, so I can't do much with the file right now.

Anyway this is my best/most finished song so I would like to use it if that's okay. I'm buying Massive later in the week so I may change it if I add on to some other tracks but this will have to work for now.

Plus, It was already on my soundcloud...

Thanks!

Uuuuuughh I want to do something but I cannot think of an idea for the life of me.

Hey, so I was inspired by a reddit comment to make an animated Breaking Bad parody of the song "Do you want to build a snowman?" It'd be called "Do you want to build a meth lab?" and here are the lyrics:

Lyrics

The only problem is I need someone to sing it. If anyone thinks they have a "Walt-ish" voice (somewhat older sounding, watch a scene from breaking bad for inspiration) and can sing decently well I'd really appreciate it you helped me out! I can't offer money, but of course your name will be credited in the animation (which I will upload to NG and YouTube)

So yeah, I'd love to see this thing made and hopefully there are some other fans out of there of that would agree and can help out. If you think some lyrics should be changed in any way I'm all ears.

Could I get in on this?

Response to: Community Collaboration Posted April 6th, 2014 in Audio

I'd be totally down for something like this.

How about a short concept album, with several groups small groups (2-3 people) making a song around a specific theme, genre, musical key or what have you?

Just a suggestion, I'd love to collaborate.

Response to: Assholes Looking for free animators Posted February 6th, 2014 in Animation

I think as long as they put whether or not it's paid in the title of their post and actually give a good description of the project. I feel like there actually is somewhat of a "market" on NG for free animators, people who are looking for practice and don't have any ideas of their own or people who generally just like collaborating are out there...somewhere.

But there have been a large influx of 13 year olds asking for their one of a kind series to be animated for free, so I can see why you're angry. It seems like those posts are taking over this whole forum, lately.

Response to: my series is not getting noticed :/ Posted November 4th, 2013 in Animation

Like the other guy said stick animations are usually appreciated less than other, more detailed animations.

You've got 652 fans though dude, you should be happy to even have that. I mean no offence but I don't know how popular you're expecting to get from doing stick animations on NG...

Anyway, try uploading it some other places too. Fluidanims is all about stick figures, they'd probably love your stuff. You could also always post them on YouTube and start a small following there, but like I said you would need to branch out and do some more things other than sticks eventually - as I'm sure you're already planning - to really go anywhere from there.

This.

Don't really know where to go from here though, can't decide between Drumstep and DnB. Think I'm going to fumble around a little more with Massive and whatnot until I get a bass sound I like.

Any advice?

I have been trying to make some animated shorts using audio from a podcast I run.
As you can see my efforts are very amateur: here
I am willing to pay $50 per minute of final footage for any animation that is at least as good as my previous attempts (shouldn't be too hard). I don't care if you don't use colour and just do line work, like: here

If your interested I have some one minute (approx) audio episodes ready to be animated.

Yeah man I'd be down to do this. Check out my stuff if you want to see examples of my animation.

Would you be providing me with storyboards of sorts so that I have a specific thing to animate for each clip?

Personally, I think this is a good idea for a collab. If someone wants to maybe restart it in a new thread as the new collab organizer that could be pretty cool, maybe it would work out.

I'd do it but I don't think I'd be able to suit the role.
