..ok ok, it's an attempt to follow up the DOHS sorting opinions from fact thread. If we throw together a list of opinions and facts, we find that facts are where people widely agree, and opinions are where we uniformly differ.
To evaluate someone as a "terror risk" we would need to distinguish between say; who is depressed (mentally unstable), who is uninformed (ignorant rant), who is misinformed (indoctrinated), who blindly follow (believers), who doubt a popular cause (disbelievers), from those who are classically cynical.
General assumption is that optimistic ppl don't blow themselves up. But a group indicating "potential terrorists" would be made up of people who have extreme or negative opinions (as stated; depressed, misinformed, radically indoctrinated, etc).
Now with cynicism, which is also characterised by negative opinion, i suspect it's not a such good indicator of the potential danger of an individual. Cynicism is a cumulation of negative experiences heavily tainted by logical hopelessness, but not typically deep depression (suicidal hopelessness). A cynic might say "fuck we're all doomed!" but would conclude "..yeah, and nothing we do will change this". If the DOHS do use an algorythm to target text thought patterns as psycological indicators, then i'd suggest that widely held cynicism will give the most false positive results.
In summary; Cynicism is an expression that events are beyond our control, even if we don't agree with those events (ie. stress relief).

How many of the following do you agree with?

6) Kids today are lazy, stupid, and typically obnoxious.
7) Our world is run by evil people, and voting makes no difference in either way.

yes, because to find a terrorist you have to be able to think like one.
apparently weed does wonders for ppl with chronic dementia.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is funding a research project designed to teach computers to scan text and then sort opinion from fact.
A consortium of four University Affiliate Centers is to conduct research on advanced methods for information analysis and to develop computational technologies that contribute to national security.
"Lots of work has been done on extracting factual information -- the who, what, where, when," explained Cardie. "We're interested in seeing how we would extract information about opinions."
The scientists will use machine-learning algorithms to give computers examples of text expressing both fact and opinion and then teach them to tell the difference.
..of course this would be alot easier if thought-terrorists would simply put 'IMHO' in their most radicalized blog postings.

there's a flaw in that sentence..
While China is already a nuclear power and North Korea is planning to join that club, the only possibility to successfully discourage these countries from military involvement is by creating its own huge nuclear arsenal.
which you correctly address in this subsequent sentence : )
So our real question here is simple; would anyone (America for example) object if Japan started developping it's own nukes?

Yeah, that's a good case in point. A Brit invents the jet aircraft, and even an all out war with Germany didn't spur them into developping it before they were duped into handing the specs over to America.
If Germany had got the Bomb, it's perhaps moot now to think whether Britian or Russia would have been the intended recipient.

heh. i'm just having a go at Del-Toro for suggesting Britian, France, Poland, or any other land was really worth fighting over, like for any resource Germany lacked just prior to invading it's neighbours, or that propaganda disguised as racial and economic intolerance hadn't just got so WAY out of control in the minds of certain Nazis with grandiose schemes of global domination or their own prowess of military victories and conquest.
It's ridiculous to say that by 1939 the hardships of WW1 had made Germans seek revenge when they already recovered to a very culturally sophisticated level. Only in the arrogance of excess do we find such an evil. A lesson looking ever more likely to be repeated in this century aswell it seems.
but tissues are SO expensive..

I thought the war about crippling German hyper-inflation, and the jews who unreasonably profited from it.
What does Russia, America, or the REST of the world have to do with saving France? I don't think the Brits even care that much about France.

Ok, so you're being literal..
"Militant dissidents is the term usually assigned armed paramilitary groups whose aim is usually to overthrow a government or regime, or otherwise impose changes on the established order. Since militant dissidents are almost always militarily disadvantaged compared to the ruling power, such groups usually resort to asymmetric warfare, guerrilla warfare, or in some cases, terrorism, to further their cause. Such groups are often denounced as terrorists by the ruling power regardless, though they often consider themselves freedom fighters or resistance movements."
..fine!
However..
Dissident: The term is most often used to refer to political dissidents.
"A term introduced to describe intellectual opposition to non-democratic regimes, in particular, totalitarian regimes where dissidents are often punished with lengthy prison sentences, economic deprivation, or execution."
..dissidence being a tool of the politically disaffected.
Dissidence against the US and our allies = terrorism
So anyone who doesn't support US foreign policy are terrorists..
Dang. You should run for President!
but the place for idiot is already taken.

Good point.
If we believe what science is telling us, then we know our Universe is mind-bogglingly massive (at least more massive than even a 100% utilized human brain can comprehend ;O)
Latest theory is that our Universe is the result of the collision of 2 Universes, but it's purely a theory that make the most sense based on what we know. Way back they believed the light of stars were campfires lit by the Gods. As Carl Sagan said "just because we don't know how something works, why do we then conclude there must be Supreme Being behind it".
If scientists proclaimed we're in a box X light-years across, then i too would conclude there must be a box-maker. But here we're talking about our Universe (without end so far as we know) being produced by collision of yet other Universes (which we know little about, other than their physical laws are different to our own) ..leading to yet more Universes ..and so on.
If anything chemistry and cosmology make it harder to say there should logically be a Creator, even thou it's hard to deny we're substituting a belief in a Supreme Being with an equally inplausible belief in scientists.
