Congratulations, guys! The amount of talent everyone displayed in this contest was astounding.
Congratulations to the finalists! Been silently listening to all the entries, and I'm always reminded that being around so many talented artists is both an inspiring and humbling experience. Thanks to TheDoor6 for just giving me the opportunity to go toe-to-toe with all these awesome people.

You're kind of admitting that you make flaws in your track, but don't want anybody to acknowledge them. This won't do you any good as a musician who wants to improve on their work. For someone who does it as a hobby, there's no shame in having an imperfect or even bad track, man.
There is also a difference between subjective taste and poor production. If you think that the viewpoints of an audio engineer or a seasoned musician are pointless, you're just not going to appeal to the general audience as much. I can respect the quality of work put into a song and understand why so people like it while at the same time not personally liking it myself.
The R4R thread does not want people to write brief one liner reviews so they can score an easy extra review in return. The review guidelines in general encourages everyone to list the things they liked, the things they didn't like, and how they can improve upon them. Although I am extremely grateful anybody would take the time out of their day to actually sit down, listen to my stuff, and write anything down at all about it, one-sentence comments praising someone's work is hardly a review in my opinion. They're comments. And thoughtful critiques aren't bullshit, dude.
I don't know if this is just you waving your middle finger in the air before you walk out the door, but you should probably change your attitude or find a different hobby, because you're not going to go far with this under that kind of mentality.
Yo, congrats to the finalists! Looking forward to hearing some awesome tracks.

I'm almost certain it's some sort of referral system. The website has its own currency system. You get some credits, he gets a little because he referred you, yadda yadda.
Feels good to have something new out. Hope you like it!

Your hands can be an instrument!

No, you should still be in...did you already post a song in this thread for this round?
Woah, I totally read this wrong. I thought I missed a deadline. Wrapping things up. Sorry about that.

Am I out of the contest or something?
Will finally get some chill time for most of the rest of the week, so I'll probably start tomorrow. Hope everyone else who started is doing well.

What is your Snap to Grid on? It's the magnet icon next to the pencil tool in the top left corner of the playlist window. I usually keep mine on Cell.
Yo, Lethal. You seem to have been deliberating this a bit in the forum a while back if I remember right. This looks like something that you need to see the counselor and professor about. I took a quick look at the merit of having a Pro Tools certification, and I'm kind of on the fence about it. If it can help land you an internship, then I'd say go for it, but I just don't know how seriously they take stuff like that. If you really want to be something along the lines of an audio engineer, then make sure it fits in the degree.
For me, I've found that internship experience looks a lot better on a resume than most certifications.
How much judging should a judge judge if a good judge could judge a judge?

Deep in my heart I'll always cheer for @JoshuaHughes, because he is for me the true example of how an awesome musician can be completely unknown on a site like this o_O.
Thanks for the love, man! I'll do my best to impress!

Will probably layer my tops more to keep the high ends busy when I get back in the game. Always paid careful attention to velocity no matter what I'm doing.
It's just a number, dude. Focus on the good reviews that try to offer constructive feedback.
I think I've linked this video before on a related subject, but I think it's important to know about formants when you're dealing with male to female conversion and vice versa. Melodyne is awesome, by the way.

Kor-Rune and Warhector are both great artists that have thrown out some truly amazing progressive pieces. Shout out to them!

A song every 2 weeks sounds wild. Good luck to everyone that participates!
I listen through my monitors exclusively up until mixing, where I'll use headphones for referencing and making sure I like the stereo. I've always been told to never use your headphones during production unless you really want to get the stereo imaging figured out early on. Or unless you're recording, of course.
I'm no audio expert, but I think what you're looking for is called phase cancellation.
Chronamut explained how you can take a commercial track and an instrumental track to isolate the vocals to some degree. This is probably the best method to use for someone who doesn't have access to the master track. All of this can be done in Audacity, too:
1. Import the commercial track and the instrumental track.
2. For the instrumental track, go to "Effect" and click on "Invert."
3. Make sure the instrumental track is lined up with the commercial track to get the full effect.
You will probably still hear the instruments a little bit. This is usually because one of the tracks are louder than the other ( just even out the dbs) or that one of your tracks is of different quality than the other, letting some of the frequencies escape. It could also be that the vocal track contains the instrumental playing through the talent's headphones and was just left there. It takes a lot of tricky EQing to make the instruments nearly inaudible, but it's not impossible. Hope this helps!
All images are property of the photographer or artist, even if it is edited. You generally can't sell a product that contains someone else's property without that person signing off on it. This usually involves a lump sum or some kind of royalties deal between you and the photographer. Some artists are generous enough to let you use their material so long as proper credit has been given, but it's common courtesy to ask for permission first.
Here is an example involving the band Red Jumpsuit Apparatus posting an edited version of a copyrighted image on their Facebook page without the photographer's consent. This shows you what not to do with digital property that isn't yours and how not to react when confronted about it.
