You didn't say it, you insinuated it.

Wquating caffeine addiction to drug addiction is a major overstatement.

It is an overstatement to equate (wquate) Caffeine addiction to drug addiction? But caffeine=drug. There is no denying it.

Quote from Site 1
:For those who love coffee, the taste is often cited as the reason for the "addiction" and the use of that word does not imply anything like a drug addiction. However, try to take away someone's coffee abruptly and chances are they will experience withdrawal symptoms (2).

Quote from Site 2
:...caffeine is arguably the most robust form of drug self-administration known to man

Quote from Site 3
:Caffeine is the world's most popular drug

So:

caffeine=drug
caffeine addiction=drug addiction

The difference between caffeine addiction and other drug addiction is just how the addict looks like and behaves.

i dont know if youd be able to do that but its worth a shot!

I'm not sure that is a good idea. But it's a unique idea though. And hard to make.

Yes, probably so, but a lot of people either screw up by not knowing the right amounts or thinking that the wrong amounts is right, or ignoring that because of their craving/addiction. I'm talking about people who replace their drinking water with coffee altogether. It's like every cup of liquid that they drink everyday has to be coffee. Hmmm...

So I understand from observing and asking coffee drinkers that they are drinking it everyday because of the caffeine? Caffeine is making them more stimulated, feel stronger, more vitalized, more awake...? Or they just like the taste? Sounds like drug addiction. Seriously.

And coffee is no doubt not as dangerous as man-made beverages like "Power Drinks" because coffee is still somewhat "natural" but coffee is still a stimulant, and probably can rank among stuff like cigarettes.

So, I can only make movies, but I want to learn how to make games and stuff. Should I start with AS1.0?
Any tips on how to go about learning the basics of actionscript would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I'm going to sleep in a bit, but to sum up, do not learn AS1.
You can learn AS2 or AS3. But! If you browse around the net, you'll see that people are saying AS2 is going extinct and we should all learn AS3. But from my personal experience, AS3 will take 5x the time to learn and make things work. Not because it is hard, but because things run differently. AS2 will be easier to learn but it is not as powerful as AS3. I've made successful games with both AS2 and AS3 and in the end, I like AS2 a lot better and will still be going AS2 in the future, until it is officially extinct and I will have no choice but to use AS2.

There's a site called Kirupa.com that has lots of tutorials on both AS3 and AS2.

I know how to, I think. I used that program a year ago and I forgot quite a lot. So I think I'm not able to help. Blender is very powerful, but very hard to use. I prefer Swift 3D to Blender.

What I did last time was I had everything in a stage (floors, walls, characters, baddies) all in a big movieclip. And I had the whole timeline filled with stage movieclips, each frame one stage. Then as a player enters a door or goes to the edge of the screen or something, the timeline plays to the appropriate frame that would load another stage. I did this for my game called "Huntloween".

Be careful not to use too many filters if you plan to use them, because they may cause some lag. Especially when viewed with slower computers.

I have an idea... Google Search for : Artist for hire.

Real-time would be better and easier done with side-scroller. You see, if you do top-down, you need to do either 4 different sprite orientations for the player : up down left right. And sometimes you may need 8, including the diagonals. And each orientation has its own other sprite conditions, like ready, walk, attack, die, get hit, jump...
But if you do side scroller, you only have to do it once. And you need to have 2 orientations : left and right. You can just flip it.

Your choice.

That is a very sad way to live.

Also, define man-made.

I know, it's sad indeed. We don't get to enjoy the cool stuff. But you know what's sadder? Ending up in the hospital with a chronic disease. The definition of Man-made is quite wide but I think here it basically means processed stuff that cannot be found naturally, like Ice-cream as opposed to Fruits.

Well, I heard that quote from a TV personality promoting healthy eating habits. I forgot who.

Forum: Flash

At 4/6/09 05:26 AM, Murudai wrote: Flash games will never take over. No matter how good Flash gets it will always be several steps behind the console and dedicated PC games.

True. True. But the most important thing is the fun that it will give to the players, not how many steps it is behind. Like if you ask me to choose between a beautiful PS3 that is not fun to me and a simple flash game which is addiciting, I'd still choose the flash game though it's steps behind. But yea, in many cases, several steps behind means a lot less fun.

I'd like to see more professional developers use Flash that way. And what would you guys have to complain about anyway, sure 'Gears of War 2: The Flash version' asks you to buy the console version, but it's not like you can play the console version on your PC anyway and you just got a free game :)

Very good point. This is a brilliant tip.

And congrats on your game's success!
