what came first the chicken or the egg
obviously the egg came first!
the thing the first chicken hatched from was the "chicken egg"
the chicken did not start as something else and in mid life deside to become a chicken.

WRONG
ctrl + enter is the easiest way to publish something, but it only publishes with the normal settings. If you want to alter anything you have to do it teh other way
Is it possible to load a certain text into your .swf from an external source. Possibly a html file, a notepade document, or something along those lines. I am asking becuase I was thinking of easy ways to update a completely flash website.
If anyone knows can you please let me know how it would be done, or show me where I can find out.
thanks
this sounds interesting... and currently I dont have my own site.
How are you selecting who gets your webspace...
cause i think i would be a fine choice :P
omg!!!!!
why dont you got read a tutorial about it!!!!!!!
NOOB
but seriously, dont make a tutorial unless you actually know enoung about flash to make one.
on that note
this is how you do it...
make a movie clip,
put a song in on steam... then go out all the frames in the song until it stops, when it stops put 2 key frames, one the firts one do the gotoandplay(1) code... (dont paste my codes cause they wont work in flash) then the next key fram place the next song and do the whole thing over for all 5 songs.
then create a new layer with in that movie clip... on make a play buton, and make a stop button. then make to foward and backward buttons. on the play button add play( ) on the stop button add stop( ). The foward button can be made 2 ways, one easy and one hard. the easy way is on every different song, change the code for the next song... for example, song 1 = 1000 then on frame 1000 you make the code = 2000.... etc then the same thing for the backwards one. thats it in a nutshell... any other questions ask
anyone make any progress???
im almost done with part 1
well
I thought it would be nice to post a preview
first draft

Good luck though.
hes plenty fit to head this collab.... the fact that he has a few collabs under his belt shows experience and leadership in collab making.
I think ill join

Yeah, I'm sorry... the hypotenuse of a right triangle, especially when Trig is involved, is often referred to as a radius. I learned transendencials via the Unit Circle, so that's where the term comes from. The way I'm used to seeing sin for instance is "y/r = sin(theta)"
Anyway, Dingo actually explained the exact process I used to the T.
More specifically though, the equations I used were:
x = x0 + V0 * t + 1/2 *at^2
where x = 837.7, V0 = 0 (because it's starting from rest), and a = g * sin(0.36) where 20.4 degrees = 0.36 radians
20.4(Pi/180)x0 and v0 thus zero out, leaving you with x = at^2, solve for t, fill in the variables, do exacty what Dingo said and voila!
I understand that.... because last year I took trig, but what I dont get is the 837.7 for x.
i got down to the same part, x=.5at^2
but for x i got 292 because it was given???
i dont think thats right, because what we are doing involves no circles....
were using kinematics and newtons laws...
well, I had recently seen someone post a math problem on these forums, sooo
i figured that most actionscripters are fond of physics and they can help me out...
can someone help me with this problem
you are on the bottom of a 292 m mountain with a slope of 20.4 how much time will you have to move out of the way if an avalanche starts moving from the top. there is no friction, and assume gravity is 9.8
im confused as hell, also please try not to answer if you too have no idea.
thanks all
my answer before...sorry

All those reasons are the reasons why we need more variables. In order to know the time the log takes to go the two miles, we need to know the time the canoe takes to go 2 + the rest miles. In order to know how long the canoe takes to go that far, we need to know the canoe's speed. etc.
assuming the canoist travels downstream at the same speed he traveled upstream,
(you need to decide if you can do that or not, if not disregard this)
then speed= distance over time
S=D/T
the distance is already said to be 2 miles
the time is the time it takes the canoist to travel back to the starting point.
key word in there is TIME, if the canoist travels up 1 more hour, then he travels back 1 more hour (2 hours) then he also traveled 2 mil up, and 2 miles back down, so he traveld 4 miles. how ever fast he was going (X) for those 4 miles 4(x) is the time taken for the log to travel minus the additional 2 hours
final speed of the log therefore is S= 4x+2hr / 2m OR 2x+1mhr
(i think my answer didnt add in the 2nd 2 mile part of the problem

but you dont need that info!
all you need to know is the time in total it takes for the log to go 2 miles
and if that is the case, how would the distance traveled in 1 hour affect that in any way?
the speed of the log is what you are finding because it is moving at the same time as the log, and the speed of the canoist is not necesary to solve for the logs speed.
the only other thing you might need to account for, is the canoist might travel faster down stream, then he did upstream.
At 10/20/06 04:37 PM, Cybex wrote: Vl = velocity of log (eg current)
tT = time total for the canoist to come back (his downstream time)
x = The number of miles the canoist travelled between passing the log and turning around
tl = Time the log takes to get from where the canoist passed it til the finishing point
tc = time the canoist takes to get from the starting place to the log (upstream).
Vl = (2tT + xtl + 2tl)(2/tTtl) - (2/tc)
Although i may be wrong. I;m still working on getting rid of those unknowns.
why would you complicate it that much???
this is only a 1 variable equation!
the only unknown is the tim it takes to go 2 miles
its impossible to solve unless you can solve with variables...
you do not know how how long it took for him to travel the two miles to the log in the first place,
so if you assume that the time was x, and he traveled upstream 1 more hour, then the time in hours is 2+2x
2 miles up, +1 hour, +1 hour back, + 2 miles back
then divide that number by 2, to get miles per hour

Thanks Guys. Hey look, 1900 posts.
Right... got the answers I needed. It's not looking good though, seeing as I'm still using MX04 and the beginBitmapFill function is Flash 8 only. Looks like something I'll have to add thirty days before release date. The transformation matrix is going to eat my brain alive methinks.
As for the arrays and movement system, I'll just have to grin and bear the rewrites...
I'll keepm updating this thread as I end up making my city more impressive though.
I dont know to much about AS, so everything you just wrote makes very little sense to me, but just from the preview, I could think of so many possibilities. Great job
I cant wait to see this finished

personally I think your http://newgrounds.com/portal/view/256156 (autumn tree) is one of the best flash movies around.
this isnt anything new....
there have been flash groups like this for a very long time... and plus it only makes the portal better, because they usually make better movies as a whole then seperatly....
hey....
I was reading through the collan, and it looks interesting with a lot of authors I enjoy...
think I can get a part thrown over my way???
or is there nothing left
i dont like sprite movies... it would have been cooler if you drew it yourself
just to add on to what they said,
sometimes (i think) if you import to stage, and dont specify a frame or something it doesnt do anything.
You need to go to file>import>import to library
this will put the file into your library and you can add the music by dragging it to the frame you want You can also do this by clicking the frame you want your music to be, going to the properties panel and where it says sound, pick your music.
if your having trouble finding your library you can just press
f11 (im not to sure of)
and
ctrl L
those should bring up the library either in a window or on the right
thats basically it
GOOGLE.COM
why doesnt anyone learn
OH MAN!!!!
