trippy movies -- mindfuck Posted May 22nd, 2008 in General

hello all...

recently i've been watching lots of movies that are very trippy, and I would like to call mindfucks

examples,

requiem for a dream
spun
silence of the lambs
fight club
Being John Malkovich

just movies where at times you can say WTF!? i had no idea that was gonna happen. or movies that just completely stun you.

but i'm not quite sure of many other movies like these, does anyone know of any other MINDFUCK movies?

wow, i havent posted on newgrounds in forever...

i'll join, but only if we all make seperate movies. I hate collabs that go to a certain song, i wana put my own music in my movie... but it WILL be good if i do

Response to: Pass My Flash Collab Posted September 27th, 2007 in Game Development

so which is the new file we have to download

how do you start making music Posted May 15th, 2007 in Audio

so basically I have become quite friendly with adobe flash, teaching myself the program and how to animate, and I can succesfuly say I am a succesful animator.

I feel my one draw back when making animations is that I use unoriginal music, usually something made professionaly. Because of this i would also like to learn how to make my own music to use in my animations.

This got me to ponder, how in the world do you make your own music on the computer. This is where i was hoping you could help me out. What programs to the musicians in the audio portal use to make music, how hard or intense are these programs to learn, how long does it to take make a song... basic info like this would be greatly appreciated. I feel once i get this foundation i will, like animating, take it upon myself to learn the concepts of music making and fully aquire the skill to produce good music.

thanks a lot, jorncar

what was that movie? Posted May 2nd, 2007 in Game Development

anyone remember this movie that kinda seemed "french". I know it was based in california (san fransisco i believe). and its about this guy who is intrigued about this girl he always sees drawing. then when he is about to talk to her she leaves on a trolly. he later realizes she left her sketch pad, and it has a note for him in it.

i like this movie a lot, and would like to see it again but i cant seem to remember the author or title. if anyone else knows of it, links would be nice but also general information too.

so i do everything???

how bout not. im not even sure im going to be making a part for this. if i make something, ill send you the movie and the menu. and YOU can put everything together. I purposely made everything as simple as i could so you wouldnt have trouble working it. there is no way im going to be making YOUR collab for you. thats your job.

Response to: The 'Great Lies' Collab Posted February 21st, 2007 in Game Development

well this is what i got
i think it makes it much more presentable

im not sure about the song, its by the gorillaz

i felt it was kinda like a story... little kids might take literally
i donno
subject to change

the middle box is where everything is seen. the buttons on the side will have the authors name on them, and when you scroll over you will see a picture of their movie. the info page will give info about the collaboration. the authors page will contain all the credits from the authors movies and what ever they want in that part.

its relatively easy to use, and at the top there is a control bar for the music.

any other questions bout it ask...

Response to: The 'Great Lies' Collab Posted February 21st, 2007 in Game Development

well.. the menu actually to my suprise looks very good

ill show you in a second but i want to put a background song in. anyon have sugestions???

Response to: The 'Great Lies' Collab Posted February 21st, 2007 in Game Development

it just doesnt look appealing

you need to keep in mind, this is the first thing the people who view the movie see

if this looks bad, they instantly think the movie is bad.
Instead you should make an amazing menu, to give the collab an overall great look

gimme half an hour and i'll throw something together

Response to: The 'Great Lies' Collab Posted February 21st, 2007 in Game Development

well... no offense here

but the menu looks very very bad.

it needs a lot more work!

Sothink limited time offer??? Posted February 19th, 2007 in Game Development

hello everyone, I just recieved an Instant message from someone claiming they were from Sothink, a company who developes software compatible with Adobe Flash.

he stated that there was a promotion offer from Sothink for Newgrounds Flash developers and they were offering their Decompiler for newgrounds members.

this was the conversation:

dovealt004: Hello

dovealt004: I'm from Sothink, and we're doing an exclusive limited time offer only for Newgrounds flash developers.
We're offering our flash decompiler, full featured, completly free - can I interest you?
JorNcar: yea i guess so?
dovealt004: It's a free download, are you willing to accept the file?
JorNcar: ummm
JorNcar: not really
JorNcar: can i get it online?
dovealt004: I'm afraid not
JorNcar: well i havnt heard of any offer from newgrounds recently
dovealt004: This is to reduce bandwidth and space load to the Sothink server, our CPU useage has been out of the roof recently.
I work from home.
JorNcar: well, I dont want to except a random fileJorNcar: can I get back to you on it?
JorNcar: cause I am in need of a decompiler...
JorNcar: and I am framiliar with sothinkdovealt004: Ok sure
JorNcar: ok then
JorNcar: ill let you know in a little bit
dovealt004: Thank you

I was hesitant to take the file because I am not sure of this offer.
Does anyone have information about the offer, newgrounds relations with Sothink, or even the person talking to me?

I would like a decompiler, but im weary that it might turn out to be a virus of somesort.

any info would be nice...

Response to: The 'Great Lies' Collab Posted February 19th, 2007 in Game Development

mhmm... I actually like the idea, and im bored outa my mind on vacation!

does it have to be something we make up?
or can i use one already in existence?

Response to: Button goes to random frame. Posted February 10th, 2007 in Game Development

well, theres probably an easy way to do this, but i dont know a lot of AS so what you can do is make a variable (number) in which its a random number. easy AS, although i dont know it off the top of my head. then make a code that says if number=1 gotoandstop 1, if number=2 gotoandstop 2. etc
if its only like 10 frames it could work, but if its a lot more it can get very tedious.

sorry for that being so general and of little help. Its just and idea to try

valentines day movie ideas Posted February 9th, 2007 in Game Development

hey everyone

for the past 2 years I have made a valentines day movie, and I would like to do it again for the thrid year in a row.

Unfortunately im having some trouble creating a decent idea to make a movie about. This is where newgrounds comes in.

I was wondering if anyone had a decent idea for a valentines day movie which they would like to be animated by a pretty good flash animator. Dont think that your idea wont go uncredited either. If you decide to give me an idea you will be credited for it inside the movie, and even co-authored if you would like.

That being said, im planning to make a high quality movie that is anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes. A romantic or funny idea is deffinately preffered. so if anyone would like to help me out I guess you can post some ideas here or private message me.

thanks, jordan

actually, you answered his question incorrectly.

its because the loaded string is seperating newlines with "\r\n", which represents the carriage return and the new line strings. you need to replace this with "\n" (or the flash constant "newline"), by doing the following:

str = str.split("\r\n").join(newline);

im pretty sure he awnsered me correctly because it appears that the problem is fixed???
I mean, its not exactly fixing the problem, but rather going around it because I set the size of the space to something very small.

well thanks for the help

I finally got it to work out beautifully.

here is an example of what it would look like on my new site

now all i need is an actual host and website to put this on....

thanks again denvish and oldgust

Make sure the dynamic textbox is set to multiline in the properties bar (CTRL+F3)
If that doesn't work, check the string for \n or \r (carriage returns/linebreaks) and maybe replace them with newline

well i fixed that problem...

but now 1 last thing.

It seems that the text box is "double spaced"
is there anyway for it not to skip a line before going to the next one?

thanks so much denvish

that really helped and I was able to load the text document as a string ( i think)
but when it appears in the dynamic textbox, its only 1 line, and does not fill up the space I would like it too.... Is there any way I can do that?
