yes u can, u can have upto 4 on some mobo setups, and with custom built pro systems u get graphic boxes that can hold as many cards as u want.

nope, you can only get as many as a driver will support. ATI just came out with it's quad driver and nvidia's ancient ass 7850gx2 or what ever didn't really work on the games of it's time. It's new 9800gx2 is yet to get a quad driver of it's own from what I've heard

first off, fuck nvidia. Their shits too expensive. Second, do you multi task alot? Dual core set ups are good for cheep easy over clocking and gaming, but if you want to run enough shit to crash a server, you'll need to upgrade to a pricier quad core.

Keep in mind you should NEVER EVER by ANY chance buy from dell or alienware or whatever, you can always get good shit for cheep on newegg.com!

If you want the best setup you can get, skip 2gb ram and go straight for 4gbs, don't upgrade to ddr3 just yet, it has very little improvement over ddr2. You can choose 800 or 1066, most mobos support both anyway. Anything less than 800 is not good at all for gaming and should be shunned.

I'd recommend getting everything you can that's ati crossfire certified, as this means it'll bring out the beast in your amd computer.

Now for the cpu, you can have a mear 600w for low grade crossfire set up, but if you want to run dual 3870x2s, your going to have to upgrade to at least 750w. The same for four lesser gpus.

An important, and some times over looked, aspect of gaming is the hard drive. Your games will constantly access your hard drive, and you can simply set up one 100+gb 10,000rpm drive for gaming, and another for all your other shit at 72000rpm. Keep in mind this means you have to set up raid 0

I doesn't matter what type of dvd rom you get really, if this is a gaming specific machine, all you really need is a dvd/cd reader. If you like burning shit, get a lighscribe 18x dvd rom or better, as those will dish up nice speeds. your free to do water cooling if you want, but leak test for 24hrs+ to make sure it doesn't ruin your set up.
I set up a kick ass system for around 1350 (including a tool kit for like 80 and an e-meter for like 25 for xbox360 modding) plus around 50 for shipping. If you're looking for a system that's not great, but good enough to game on high (as apposed to very high or extreme modes) then you'll really only need the 2gbs ram and a single card that's got at least a 700mhz running and some decent shit to go with it.

my cpu would be a dual core 2. something (not that good, but gets the job done) It would have good ventilation cause it's on around 18 hours a day. Would need a least 1 gig or two for ram, cause I don't know how to close processes, thus needing some nice multiple task-ability. and the video card would be an ATI 2900pro 512 in crossfire, but I don't get enough power, so one of the cards is going to shit. God I hope you got that joke.
