A batting average is the averaged score of your top 3 thingies out on flash. It doesn't do much except qualify you for being able to make collabs.

Well its too bad that so many people applied, now I'll barely have a chance to sneak in. Still, I wouldn't just let $600 go away without a fight, so here's some of my samples.

Important stuff: I can code in AS2/AS3 depending on your preference - either works for me. I've been coding for probably 6-7 years in some flavor of ActionScript.

http://media.putfile.com/Space-ShooterRT S A space shooter/RTS combo game. My most recent work. Click to go to build screen, space to shoot. For some reason on Putfile they make you do a right click - play thing to get it to start up. Obviously not finished, but still cool :D

http://media.putfile.com/Zelda-again-81 A Zelda styled game. (Also not finished, I just like to show it off)

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/29 9271 - A mousegame with a few tricks. (Finished this time)

( http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/39 7088 A little game I made during summer when I figured out that people run out of momentum when they try to code big game ideas. )

Well there's a lot of different ways to go about it, my favorite way would be to add a pause function prototype to all movieclips and then do a for j in root j.pause or whatever that weird syntax is. For an easier to understand way, just put an onEnterFrame with if _root.paused==false stop; and if _root.paused== true play();

Let me just come out and say that as far as platforms go, Flash is hardly the best for an MMORPG. If you have a C++ programmer I say stick to that, or switch to Java for the faster network speeds, since the languages have a little resemblance.

He obviously wouldn't talk to a sponsor that way. As much as internetsp33k irks me, you have to admit he has a point.

Wow. Thanks a ton. Turns out that for a class named example, all you have to do is import example.* with the example class in a folder called example. I mean that is a bit more work but I do like having my classes so this is a huge help. Thanks much.

Lol, what? Your attitude is idiotic and unprovoked. Why the crap wold he need to show an example of a character who he obviously said he couldn't draw? If you don't want to help, I'm sure theres hundreds of others who do, so you can just go play a game or something.

Anyways, to the topic creator, you could try drawing him with a reference, although no matter what it will be difficult to animate him (or her, I never played KH much)

How do you make your separate as file visible to your fla? I have one class and its working just fine. I have another, styled in the exact same way, and for some reason flash refuses to believe that my class even exists. Is there a certain series of steps I have to make in order to get the class to become a "compile time constant"?

Cute game. Here's my problem with it. I was riding up the elevator, and crouched, out of the vision of everybody, and for no explicable reason, the enemies crouched too. I know WHY this happened, but surely you'll agree that it shouldn't. Anyway, good stuff. Only problem is its a little tricky to play.

You know that instead of having 5 'onEnterFrame's, you can just stick them all into one big onEnterFrame, ya?

You can fill in shapes that you draw with the line/pencil tool as long as the line is completely continuous. Sometimes you can't even see a hole in the line and Flash just gives up - that's why it has the ignore gaps option, but sometimes that glitches.

It's a neat little coding trick called localToGlobal. I don't recall the exact syntax, but in essence you'll want to have a way to get the coords of where you want the bullet to emerge (I usually have a movieclip right on the edge of the cannon thing) and then call a localToGlobal on it to convert it from coords relative to the container movieclip to coords on _root.

Look it up in the Flash help. Good luck :)

My friend did a neat trick where you have a mask layer with the inverted colors and show certain parts of the mask. It works if you aren't going for something too complicated.

Heh, I don't plan my games at all, really, although incidentally today I planned out a little of an RPG. I can sympathize with your 15 unfinished games as I must have hundreds of game concepts and ideas which I never polished and submitted. Sigh. If you ever find a good way to get the inspiration back, do tell me.

It's actually not that hard. Just put the class into another file (named after the class) inside of a package{} block, and then you should be able to access it like normal. If you want to know more about specifics of classes, you can always look up an AS2 OOP tutorial - they haven't changed much in basic structure

It actually is CS3, and I've started to narrow it down. It seems to only happen to buttons that are inside of graphics. Yeah, I have to say, that sounds kind of odd XD. I guess I can just change everything over to movieclips, or get rid of all my graphics or something. Hmm...

1. NG's collective conscience hates everyone. It's just a fact of life. We're all angsty hate filled teenagers.

2. Your animation is nice, and it has an innovative delivery. It's a bit slow, though, and could do with more action coming faster at you. A display of your FBF abilities, besides those of just animating a fan (which honestly isn't that hard :P) would be nice, too. Yes, I know its hard, but the better the thing that you can show us, the more likely we will be inclined to help.

Oh and sorry I forgot to mention this, I've tried googling but can't really think of specific terms to narrow down the results, so I get tons of unrelated stuff.
