Topic: Help me improve my game

Posted: 02/21/08 10:11 PM

Forum: Flash

DON'T REPORT BUGS: READ THE WHOLE POST.

Summary: How can I make this game more fun?

http://www.ngup.net/view?file=611

Long winded explanation:

Click for pool stick hitting type movement, arrow keys for normal movement.

The idea is to hit the little wall in the middle to make a brick fall down and kill the little enemy squares on the bottom while avoiding/hitting the rectangles that come out of your side to stop you. (In the real game, after a certain amount of enemy squares get across, you will die.)

Right now, it's an interesting game, but it doesn't stay interesting for very long. I'm asking you to tell me what might make this game more interesting than it is right now.

I've already got music planned, as well as fixing all the little bugs you see right now. This is more of a gameplay issue then an issue with minor details. How can I make the gameplay more enjoyable? Do you have any ideas of things I can add?

Thanks!!

You don't need to open up a new topic every 5 minutes.

First save the cursor as a cur file since I lied before.

Go Control Panel - Classic view - Mouse - Browse - Find it - Double click it - Apply - End

Yes, there is. Export it as a JPG or some sort of image, then sort through your Control Panel (I can't give you specific instructions because I don't know what version of windows you have) and change your mouse cursor image to the JPG that you just exported.

Nice tutorial. You're going to hate me for this, but did you know about the function dateObject.toLocaleTimeString() ?

For some reason it's trying to open your file as a windows exe. Try running flash, then opening your program from there.

Well, it's not something that you accomplish in just one day, or in a week, or a month, or even a year. It takes lots and lots of practice, hard work and dedication to achieve something of that level.

It's not like they do anything.
People who use ActionScript needs them.

var a:Number = 0; var b:Number = 1;

Oh shush. Anyone who programmed with ActionScript would just write that as two separate lines. I still recommend getting into the habit of semicolons, but only because they're used in other languages so much.

Bah, all you'll accomplish is the creation of an underground black market where kids trade crack and webcams. Just in case it happens though, I think I'll stock up.

Honestly, that's more of a glitch with Flash than with your game. However, you might be able to fix it if you group all of your elements together in a MovieClip or something similar, and then move that movieclip, instead of moving all the elements separately.

I have NO IDEA what you are trying to do. Can I see maybe an FLA or a picture or diagram or something?

-This code makes it so when two objects collide, it's moved on the y scale down a little bit (actually up)

How am I supposed to make ANY sense of that. I have no idea what the "It's" in the second sentence even refers to.

not true. tweens are very efficient.

Not as efficient as having all frames precalculated. Make a shape tween of a complex object and run it, then break it into frames and run it, then get back to me.

This is a minute difference, but try placing the script ON the movieclip instead of IN it.
