Notice that companies are now going after Flash and other platform developers who are making games derivitive of their work. Microsoft recently cracked down on derivitives of popular games such as Halo and Geometry Wars.

Compression is actually going make the flash longer to export, btw.

But yes, Flash is rendering as fast as it can. Some ways you can help it.

1) Turn of background tasks such as Itunes, Itunes, and Itunes. Itunes has huge conflicts with Flash 8 being open, especially with the upgrade to 7.0 and quicktime (Itunes is essentially an extension of Quicktime 7. Also, turn off AIM and other programs, especailly browsers.

2) File > Save and Compact the delete your enormous history.

3) If you are using no actionscript to load movieclips, then open your library. Hit the little sub menu icon in the top right corner, and hit "Select Unused Symbols". Now hit delete to clear your library. File > Save and Compact again.

4) Make sure that you are exporting as Flash 8, not an earlier version.

5) Restart your computer, and try again.

There has been an update on the previous page, in case anyone didn't notice.

Also, I have been slowly learning that emails are not getting to me not because of me losing them, but because somewhere internet ogres are stealing our emails and fueling their woodtop stoves for their familes with then. Well, at least that's what Bezman told me.

Lots of questions...

1) Jindo, I got your PM, just forgot to put it in. Lots of work being done yesterday.

2) There is a relaxed deadline, so if you really dont get it done until 2 hours after the deadline, I won't be crying. I'm not going to be stickler for time on a project that's been a month and a half long.

3) Rageace, your game had no animation at all (nothing on the screen was moving so it was awkward to play). At least have some kind of animation in it.

When you uninstall Flash, it should make your key available to activate again. This was the case for me when I moved from computer A to computer B a few weeks ago. Also, be wary you may also install Flash on a Primary machine and a Secondary machine (laptop or similar), as per the License agreement, as long as they are the same operating system and they are both your computers and to be used only by you or the members of your household. If you need further assistance, be sure to contact Adobe Customer Service and they should be able to help you out.

Make a movieclip by selecting some artwork, and the navgating to Modify > Convert to Symbol. Select the movieclip option, and press okay.

Select the movieclip by clicking on it once with the arrow tool. Open the actions panel (Window > Actions).

In the code window, turn script assist off if it isn't already (its a little toggle in the top right corner). Your code is going to look something like this.

onClipEvent(enterFrame) {
if( Key.isDown(Key.LEFT)) {
this._x -=5;
}
if( Key.isDown(Key.RIGHT)) {
this._x += 5;
}
}

Now to explain this code...

onClipEvent() { } Is a function that lets you set the action of a movieclip when certain actions occur. In this example, its "enterFrame", which means it's going to happen every single frame the clip is running. We made the onClipEvent trigger whatever is between the { and the }, so anything inbetween those will run every single frame.

if() { } Checks if something within those parenthesis is true, and if it is, runs whatever is between those brackets.

Key.isDown() Checks to see if a certain key is down. In this case, its checking "Key.LEFT" and "Key.RIGHT".

So when you put together if() and Key.isDown(Key.LEFT), you get if(Key.isDown(Key.LEFT)) { }, which is checking whether or not the left key is pushed down, and if it is, run whatever is between the { } brackets. As you can see, it runs twice: Once for the left, and once for the right key.

this._x addresses the x position of the movieclip. When we add or subtract from this._x, it will move the x axis position of the movieclip. The same goes for _y, if you choose to use that.

The += adds the previous value on top of the value on the right. So when we run this._x += 4;, we are just moving the x position of the movieclip 4 to the right. The same goes for -=, only now its subtracting.

So from there, you'll get a basic idea of how that code works. For more information on starting coding, visit the AS: Main list of tutorials, which will give you a lot of help in Actionscript.
