I completely agree. Abstinence is the way to go to keep people safe and in line and all that fun stuff the government and education tries to do.

but in the sense that you're talking in, i define american as holding american citizenship, nothing more.

This would be perfectly fine except that you have a lot of people out there with American flag stickers on their SUV's preaching about how good war is and how American they are because they think so.

there're plenty of hitches.

The Iraqi's have let us speak to their scientists (even though we know of the...pressures...that puts on the scientists) and tour their factories and weapons sights without holding back. The only hitch is that the weapons are out of the country by now.

Response to: Someone define 'American' Posted February 20th, 2003 in Politics

I don't think there's a singular definition of "American". It encompasses all that is written in the constitution. Limbaugh is wrong, though. Those who protest the war are not Un-American. If anything, they are what America is. The freedom to gather and express a viewpoint against what the popular view is.

Response to: What do you think of Bush Posted February 20th, 2003 in Politics

We've had some amount of military presence around the world for a long time now. It doesn't really bother me at all that we have some in the middle east. As for Turkey getting cold feet about letting us use them as a springboard for the Iraq war, I feel it's well within their rights to do that. It's odd that they let us use bases there but not in the event of War, though. Eh, you can never really figure out some of those countries over there.

We're the superpower, so I doubt many people will retaliate against us or just walk away. However, I do think the opinion of America will change after this war, especially with the French and the Germans. Not that it matters, I don't even like the French if for nothing more than their position on Iraq being based solely on oil deals. I don't think we'll be launching nukes into Baghdad, though. Sorry.

You're a bit too radical, but sometimes you make good points. It's sad the amount of people who just write long, drawn out, profanity laced paragraphs in an attempt to sound intelligent, as if typing a lot will make people give up and accept their point of view. This is the fun of political parties. This is the fun of Anti-War.

Response to: anti-anti-war protest Posted February 20th, 2003 in Politics

You are judging all the other countries on their past records, it is only fair to judge America accordingly. America has acted in its own interest in the past and will do so now. It is clearly not a war for freedom and democracy.

It took this many posts to come to the point that America is going to war with its own interests at heart? Has it ever been any different?

Kerrey had little name recognition before just now...so did all the rest of them. I'm afraid that it's true how only Lieberman has good enough recognition to make a run for Bush's money. Bush will win again, though, because of this war he has going and enough republicans in the House and Senate to rally people behind him. Too bad.

The cut on paying taxes on stock shares. You know, the one that doesn't help people who don't OWN stock shares. What it LOOKS like is that it's meant to help people who own MANY stocks...say...Ted Turner. I don't know many homeless people who would be helped out by the removal of the Double Dividend Tax.

I at least try to read a few newspapers a day to get a scope of what's going on. I mean, personally, I have nothing with Bush now on the war front. Most of the time it just happens to be the liberals who do it, since they tend to be less educated.

Response to: Are we all worth the same? Posted February 19th, 2003 in Politics

For example, am I - a broke ass college student- worth more than a serial killer if I am an essentially good and caring person?

This is an intriguing question. That all depends on whether you view all humans as universally equal, or if human character changes it all. Hmm...personally, I think that this could also apply to all are created equal under the law. The serial killer would then be worth less and most people would walk away happy.
