Tom you guys really delivered. Good job, great redesign, it makes using NG alot easier and it's much easier on the eyes.

Response to: Tank Trophies Posted June 20th, 2007 in NG News

I'm afraid I'm going to have take one of those trophies during awards time.

Response to: Tank Trophies Posted June 19th, 2007 in NG News

Tom even I as impressed with your positive feedback from your Thursday thread... just goes to show that your work doesn't go unappreciated...it's just mostly silent adoration because we are in awe of what you have accomplished so far. At least I am.

I can't wait for these award things...no clock movies D:

Response to: EDGE Article Posted June 15th, 2007 in NG News

Tom you're awesome but seriously can you just say what month the update will be available? span of 3 months?

I want to know how much time I have to work on my next submission.

Response to: EDGE Article Posted June 15th, 2007 in NG News

Tom I wouldn't worry about it...seriously, newgrounds is going to get insanely huge in the future as youtube and other sites die down...people will get tired of just watching and will want to start creating.

Dude you created newgrounds...do you have any idea how many people grew up and are growing up on this site? This site dominated my childhood... it made me want to start creating things....it made me realize it was OK to not follow the norm.. and it didn't make you a freak if you had a different sense of humor than others..

anyway... can't wait for the site update lol..

What the fuck do you know about whether or not he can be funny outside of that area?
Squeaky was just assuming Johnny-Utah wasn't funny outside the area of "cock jokes" because Johnny-Utah has yet to submit something that doesn't utilize his infamous "cock jokes", and I happen to agree with him :P

You would need to see something without a cock joke to know if that's all he could do. Even then, you'd need to see more than one flash without a cock joke.

Give the guy a rest....

God help us all.
What's wrong with that? Zone probably worked his ass off making that movie and he deserves the award regardless of the controversial content. Besides NG is a liberal place where people can submit any type of movie, hence the slogan! :D

Hurray for statutory rape!

Yet another barrier broken on newgrounds... Martin Luther King may have his dream after all...

Yeah, then lets have a stolen artwork day where people take 15 year old pixelated images and tween them around for 5 minutes without voice acting.

We'll call it...I can't draw day.

Response to: Starting a new series? Posted March 17th, 2007 in Game Development

Well, I would suggest you storyboard your ideas, and plan everything out really well. For me, storyboarding is key, it helps set up where things take place...and if you're good at drawing, when you go into flash, you already know what everything SHOULD look like. Once you're done storyboarding(obviously after you've written a short script of what happens and dialogue), start drawing everything in flash and gathering sound effects. I'd recommend recording dialogue when you're about 2/3rds done with the project, saving it until the end usually isn't a great idea.

Storyboards are my thing though, I don't know how many people here use them. I go to film school and people hardly use them (?). Storyboards are really the key to visualizing what you want to do.

Response to: Starting a new series? Posted March 17th, 2007 in Game Development

I took a completely different approach...but then again I've had flash for a while so it wasn't a big deal. I'm working on the 8th episode of my series and it's taken 3 months. I started the series about a year ago.

I think you should do your first episode relatively quickly but still of good quality, then do your second episode in double the time it took to do you first. I would do those and see your results and how well it did in the portal...this way you don't invest yourself in something that people may not like. Meanwhile, since you're worked on two episodes, if you were going to work on something else, you're already in that mindset and you've probably gotten way better at flash after doing just those two episodes. If it goes well and people like your series, just imagine how amazing your third episode will be.

One day closer to the site redesign!

So what ever happened to pico 2?

Response to: Best of February Posted March 13th, 2007 in NG News

I don't think the problem is with the sprite films...just that all the users on here give them really good scores, it's probably because the ratio of people creating flash and people watching flash on NG has shifted. There are so many more watchers than creators now that they completely swing the vote. I can tell that a lot of the Super Mario Bros Z flash was tweening....but the average person doesn't even know what tweening is...they simply assume all the animation is frame by frame.

I'm not a hypocrite, I just don't want the ads on my site. I don't care where they come from, I just hate putting them on my page.

Greedy, lol. NG gives out prizes, which is plenty of fun to compete for. I don't expect any money from animating, because I just love what I do. Some people may need money, but for gosh sakes, don't drain it from NG.

Yes, I've spent over a year working on a series I'm doing for absolutely no pay...because...I'm greedy. I have no ads on my website because...I'm greedy.

I don't like the whole coporate thing... I don't like putting ads on my website... I don't want to put adsense on my site either.

I love animating too... I just don't like making my site look like shit with ads all over it, this would have been a nice alternative...but it was just an idea.

Response to: Um...Why aren't we getting revenue Posted February 26th, 2007 in Game Development

I didn't expect to change anyone's mind, and was a little unsure about this idea myself but I figured I'd throw it out there anyway :P

Yes please more sprite films, sorry I mean more ART...lol

Response to: Um...Why aren't we getting revenue Posted February 26th, 2007 in Game Development

Ok so living of NG $$ is an exaggeration...but at least make a system where we can buy stuff on the site depending on the hits....

I think that'd be a great alternative to the way prizes are done now. Imagine a big catalog on NG where you could get, say, a Xbox 360 if your work gets over 200,000 hits?

a man can dream.

Response to: Um...Why aren't we getting revenue Posted February 26th, 2007 in Game Development

Ad revenue could only mean:

More users (because they want to try and make money)
More competition between users
More animators
More hits for newgrounds
More money for newgrounds because of higher traffic
Happier advertisers
Money for NG users, so perhaps you could LIVE off animating just on newgrounds

-----

Please announce the cons, I'd like to see them...and make sure they are logical (please?)

NG users can earn their own revenue by getting sponserships if their flashes are good enough.

Which, again, is fine.... but that won't stop up and coming artists from leaving for a site that might give them their own ad revenue. Giving them their own ad revenue isn't even that controversial.

Times are changing and if NG doesn't start doing this, someone else will and they will take NG's users.

Hey, get ready because in a few weeks I'll have a flash on the top 5.

:P

Response to: Top entries from 02/16/2007! Posted February 17th, 2007 in P-bot's Postings

I would be happier with the top 5 in general, if there was one for sprite animations and one for hand-drawn animations. Except for a select few, sprite films cannot be judged next to hand-drawn. For some(most) NG users, seeing sprites automatically means a 5, this puts people that actually draw things at a disadvantage. Sprites are prefect representations of characters and usually there are already pre-made animations for the sprites. Anyone that hand-draws stuff has to do all of that themselves.

It's just a real shame when you see someone on the top 5 who has obviously spent some time drawing and animating original characters...while others have simply tweened and photoshopped....

Newgrounds should be a haven for artists ...... not powerpoint creators.
