The first page of this thread has all the info. 12 oclock.
(Although technically, 12AM on the 12th would have been this morning not tonight)

I e-mailed mine to mynamewontfitin but haven't heard back. I hope it got to him ok!! I don't have AIM...

As you all as my sort of witnesses, I have just sent my entry! I just hope the 9MB fla file makes it to its destination ok.

How is everyone else doing on deadlines? I'm rather excited I finished early. I never finish anything early...

Um... Drag and drop? Seriously that's how you do it. Maybe your layer is locked. Check that.

...Maybe we could extend the deadline? It may ruin it then, but it may in the end be better for the collab. It all depends on how much time would be needed and how many people would be able to finish. Me, I'm still chugging away, but I'll get there.

I firmly believe that no matter how long you extend the deadline, people will never actually finish. I mean, yes, there are a few folks who have worked since the colab was announced, but really, how many of us waited until it was February? I say the show must go on! (And start planning your Shades of Blue now for later this year!)
Besides, as much as I hate it, deadlines are a part of real life. Gotta get used to 'em sometime...

Response to: A few newb questions.. Posted February 11th, 2005 in Game Development

It's n00b not NEWB! Duh! =)

Anyway,
1) Go to Modify- Shape- soften fill edges
2) Adjust the alpha (it's below the RGB on the color pallete)
3)Motion tween them with changing alpha, check the property menu when you click on the object.

Good luck!

Response to: Getting your girl a valentine gift? Posted February 11th, 2005 in General

After four years of dating my girlfriend and I get each other presents that are really for ourselves. It works out really well! Maybe I'll get "her" an IPod this year...

Anyway, if you're poor you should go with the tried and true "homemade" gift, like a candlelit dinner or fill her room with balloons while she's out and it'll be a big suprise when she gets back.

And I hear girls like chocolate...

Are you serious? What the heck? You know in my day, kids didn't just give up because the deadline was two days away and nothing was even started! No sirree we bucked up and pulled through and finished and then got D-'s on our work but WE STILL FINISHED CONSARNIT!

Seriously though, I'm suprised how well mine turned out even though I waited until the last minute. I guess all those years of public school procrastinating finally paid off...

Response to: Battle Music That's Not Ff Or Lotr Posted February 11th, 2005 in Game Development

I think every commercial audio stream is overused. I'm a big fan of original music, because then you can truly call the Flash your own. All the stuff on my site I have my music director come up with instead of using copyrighted songs. They may not be as good or well known but I think it's better in the end. You can do whatever you want with the cartoon without possibly getting sued. (Of course, we're all not wizzes with music)

Anyway, I'd check the audio portal and find something there, since it's original stuff. Otherwise pick another game/movie that has a similar sound and use that.

Response to: do you like cartoons with... Posted February 11th, 2005 in Game Development

Unfortunately graphics do matter. Without good artwork, your score will suffer. I wish it wasn't so, but it is. I couldn't see the link you posted above, (said it wasn't there) but I say if the story is good, and the animation/sounds work well then I see no reason why a poorly drawn cartoon will not make it. It just won't get the highest score it could without some flashy artwork.

Response to: Flash help Posted February 11th, 2005 in Game Development

I've never really played with sprites but are you selecting each part of the object? Often times if you miss something it'll throw it al outta wack.

Also sometimes Flash deletes/changes fills for no reason when resizing. I don't know why, a bug a suppose.

Try making sure ALL of the sprite is selected before changing the size. If that doesn't work, use the Transform menu instead of the Free Transform tool.

Response to: 5 Shades of Red Collab! Posted February 11th, 2005 in Game Development

Sounds good. Yeah, I put _SpaceChicken after every one of my symbols, so hopefully that'll be unique enough =)

So when does this joyous voting take place? (And how many total make the cut?) I assume there are a whole freak load of people entering... I just don't want to miss out on getting my opinion voiced!

Response to: converting a swf into a screensaver Posted February 11th, 2005 in Game Development

You need to buy an external program to do it. Just search google, download a trial or two, and find one you like. They usually run 20-60 dollars. As far as I know there's no free easy way to do it, like with AS.

Response to: Advice on flash I made. Posted February 11th, 2005 in Game Development

First off, you need more animation. Maybe put the whole mouth sync thing in a movie clip and then have kyle dance around while he's singing- jumping on Koopas or something. That'd make it much better.

Your background swirly thing is cool. And the song is pretty sweet too. Just keep working at it!

Their favorite aka their own? =)
I assume you have to vote for someone else's...

Also while I'm at it, mynamewontfitin said to center the final movie clip on the stage. Mine, when centered to the stage, is off because of the symbols hanging off the edge. Should I just center it how it's supposed to be centered?

Ok ok, I'm going blind from sifting through all these pages so I'll just be a n00b and ask:

I finished my SoR 38 second long cartoon (I hope it makes it) and now need to know a few quick things.
1) There are symbols and such that go off the stage, but they'll still be there if I make the whole thing a movie clip. Should I put a mask over the whole thing? Or will it be set to the stage size once the final is done? (I assume it'll be okay the way it is)
2) Did anyone determine who's voting/what decides which animations get in the final version?
3) I think that's it. Sorry if I'm repeating an already answered question. Good luck to everyone!

Cool, I'm glad you like it. Hey let me know if it ever gets used in anything so I can see it in action!

Response to: Logo designs from Space Chicken Posted February 9th, 2005 in Game Development

Ok here's what I came up with. Your logo previously posted (I still say) looks pretty cool, so I left this one black & white because I doubt I can do much better than your color scheme above, so I'll let you fill it in.
Let me know what you think, and where to send the larger image if you want a bigger version than what's below.
And if anyone else has any comments or suggestions about the art, I'd love more feedback.

Um... okay... Is there any particular color scheme or direction you want for it? Murky Water is pretty descriptive, so do you want a morbid depressing looking logo or what?

Logo designs from Space Chicken Posted February 8th, 2005 in Game Development

Thanks to a post by Impulsive_Otaku, I've decided to lend my designing abilities to the NG world and assist people with logos for the intros to their Flash movies. It seems to me that a cool looking logo will boost the first impression that viewers get while watching submissions to the Portal. Maybe even help to improve some overall animations, who knows.

Anyway, if you'd like any assistance, post a reply, and I'll try my best to assist you. Plus, maybe some other graphic designers lurking around the NG BBS with some experience will be able to help you out as well!

(And keep working at making those submissions the best they can be!)

Ok here's what I came up with this afternoon. I'm retaining the CR to these so I can use them in the future for portfolio examples and such. If you would like to use any of them straight up, feel free, or you can alter some to suit your needs. Also any feedback and thoughts are appriciated so I can keep improving my work. Thanks.

(NG would only let me upload a crappy little tiny JPG so if you want to use one of these let me know and I can send you a larger, higher quality PNG file.)

I would be willing to post your website in my credits, so if you want to try to make one for me, more power to ya.

Hmmm... Well I suppose it beats doing real work right? Even if I do get paid for that. Oh heck, why not?

Ok so what are you looking for other that the lightening theme? Any color schemes in mind or just black and white? Do you want it round/square/freeform?

Response to: Bitchin Idea's For A Logo Posted February 8th, 2005 in Game Development

Logos are a funny thing. After going to school to learn all about them for FOUR FREAKING YEARS OF MY LIFE THAT I'LL NEVER GET BACK I can offer you this advice. A quality logo takes a huge amount of time and work. If you expect to use it for longer than just your younger years then I would suggest getting some professional help, and not just the normal NG bunch. (Although some people around here do produce nice work.)

I would suggest steering away from Photoshop and hit Illustrator first. It needs to be clean and clear and not just flashy gradients and effects. Good luck to you.

Hmmm... You know, with the incentive of a link to my website in your flash credits, perhaps I could be persuaded to create something for you to steal- I mean, get inspiration from... Interesting... Maybe I'll start a thread on helping people with logos? Thanks for the idea...

Yuyufan, how long has this been going on for? And any idea what order they started in? If she's burning up you need to cool her down with ice and a cool towel on her forehead, and make sure she rests as much as possible. What seems to be the most severe of her symptoms? I was trying to look up possible things it could be. Does she have a history of illness?

If she is dumb enough to believe that religion crap, then she deserves to die.

You should check WebMD.com to see if you can find out what's wrong. Last time I checked, NewGrounds wasn't crawling with too many Doctors. And if things get extrememly bad, you can always call an ambulence, because they won't care if she wants to see a doctor or not.
Um... Better check WebMD first though...WebMD.com I hope everything turns out ok.

Oh we all just like taking sides I suppose. I don't know, makes us feel like part of a group probably. Of course, I don't think discussing the deep psychological reasons for fanboys is really appropriate for NewGrounds. =)

And (hopefully) the fights don't amount to much. It's just venting and voicing your opinion, and in the end everyone says what the think and that's that.
