=) Thanks, it's supposed to get "kinda" (quite) hard after 5000! It took me a long time to get all the speed/point values so that in order to make it to the highest rank (6000) you really have to work! I myself have gotten to 5700, but blast it, I can't quite reach 6000 yet. I figured setting a goal and making that goal hard would keep people coming back to play again. (Worked on me =)

My game is now complete except music/sound effects. Although now if we have three more days where I CAN'T submit it... maybe I'll polish it up some more. Anyone want to see what I have now (and give me feedback?)

(Sorry I tried to include an HTML link and it kept saying Invalid Html!)

It has no preloader though, so you may have to wait a few for it to load! (Oh and 6000 is the highest ranking score if you want to try and beat it)

That leaves 2 spaces open. I don't think I want to do this in 2 parts.

How bout you guys vote on who gets the credit? You CAN NOT vote for yourself.

Okay, we can vote, but I'm not done yet! Can we wait and vote on the 1st when everyone has submitted? And is there a list of who's done what so we know what we're voting for, or should I just jog back through the last 5 pages and find the different games people linked to?

Mine should be done at the latest Saturday. I'm waiting on music, and that's about it.

I really wouldn't mind co-author, but I think Glaiel_Gamer should be the one to decide after seeing all the submissions. It was his idea after all. =)

Oh. Did you post it then already? Because I was thinkin about jumping in at the last minute but I thought it ended on March 1st. Wow that's amazing. With the whole green signature picture, I just inserted the N and saw it as Greendom. Sorry bout that Greed! =)

Thanks for this post ReNaeNae, it made me feel better. Maybe I'll help Twinsen with the whole website idea to showcase what we've done with the Shades stuff. And maybe one day people will want to call the group something, even unofficially. For now we'll just leave it what it is, cause if it's not broken, why fix it. Thanks again.

Sounds like a plan, but I don't want to step on anyone's toes! I mean, Myname IS the creator of the whole thing, right? I'd hate to start something without him along.

So hear ye hear ye! I motion to unofficially call ourselves the Shades Squad! This way, Twinsen gets to make his webpage and be happy, I get to feel like I'm part of a cool NG group and be happy, Myname gets hisname for the group (Shades Squad WAS his idea!) and be happy, and Greendom and those who think this is all a waste of time can be happy because we need not vote or take this discussion any further!
What do you say everyone? Are we together on this? One for all and all for one? Alone we fall but together we are strong? Sometimes you feel like a nut- oh wait... that slogan doesn't really fit... =)

Yeah, Myname said he'd put up the details either this weekend, or in two weeks. There'll be a new thread (probably called Shades of Blue) so keep an eye out for it.

(I agree Twinsen; it would be nice. But it looks like most people just don't want to be a group.)

Response to: 5 Shades of Red Collab! Posted February 19th, 2005 in Game Development

Ok no problem. We don't have to have a name/group. No big deal, just thought it would've been a way to band together amoung the onslaught of crap that fills NG everyday. Plus, if we don't have an official group no one has to be commited to anything, and if anyone who would be in the group wants they can still submit miserable dung as a part of the collabs and no one will care.

Ciao.

We should really do this. We need to finalize a name. So whaddya say? My vote's for Collab Concord, since I can't think of anything else that fits and is original.

I like Collab Concord, but I still have to insist that we need to be careful with the word Collab. I mean, go search the Flash BBS for Collab and you'll find 900 different (mostly failing) collaborations. It's just too general of a word. Then once we have our official name with collab in it, 900 OTHER people will start little (mostly failing) clubs called Collab SomethingorOther... Don't you think? I dunno, maybe I'm just being paranoid.

As for deciding on an official name, I agree we should finalize one. I think it should go similarly to voting on the Shades of Red voting.

- We can all come up with ONE name, then submit them to one person (I'd be happy to take this on, if you guys want and myname is busy) . Then that person can post all the names people came up with here in this thread. Then we can all vote on 2-3 not including our own, and narrow it down. Finally, a second vote with the top 4 or so would narrow it down again to a single, amazing name. What do you all think?

(Ps. Keep in mind, even if we have Shades in our NAME, we can still do other things. It's just that shows where our roots are =)

Yeah, I guess it would be good to have a more universal name, but it seems like "Shades of" is so unique- and something to do with just Collaboration is so bland and boring. Anyone could do a collaboration, but there aren't as many who could pull off an awsome collection of 5 Shades! =)

:Also, myname, if you don't want to start the thread early how about you just pick out the colors and those interested in getting a head start can IM you?

I guess that's an idea. But really, why not just put up the thread and push back the deadline? It's basically the same idea, giving more people time, right? Anyone who wants a break can just pretend it doesn't exist for a few weeks!

I think most proffessional software is way overpriced. As a fellow actual member of working society, I had to get a real legal version of Studio as well. But I do have to say, having a licenced copy and making money by creating things with it is forever better than constantly fearing the Internet Police coming after you, so I say it's worth every penny...
I just wish it cost a whole lot fewer pennies...

I think us starting an official group is a great idea. Then the quality we put into our animations will begin to be expected when we establish a reputation.

I have to say though, I'm not a big fan of the word Crew. I think there are way too many Crews on NG! Maybe that's just me. Anyway, to give everyone something to think about, I dipped into my good ol' paperback Thesaurus and checked out these words:
Cooperation: Collaboration, participation, combination, concert, union, confederation, conspiracy, alliance, society, company, coalition, federation, unamity, concord, harmony
Crew: troupe, squad, orginazation, sea dogs
Group: assembly, crowd, assortment, association, club
I also looked up Organization and the freakin' entry was two pages long. I won't type that one...

I'm kinda partial to Shades Society, or 'Shades of' Society. But if you wanted to go with Collab something, maybe Collaboration Co.?
Anyway, just something more to think about...

No set due date for this one anyways cuz its not for like a holiday or anything.

Noooooooooo! No break?! Why?? I know everyone is anxious but let's step back and look at this for a moment:
1) If we keep going one after another bam bam bam with no breaks we're all going to burn out quicker. Creativity will plummet, believe me.
2) No deadline means bad things. From experience, people need deadlines.
3) Shades of will get old real fast if we keep churning them out. I don't know why there are some people on NG who seem to hate us already, but if we keep doing them so quickly, people will get tired of watching them, don't you think?

My suggestion is to wait the week or two before announcing the official rules and colors. Then extend the deadline longer, so people feel like they have time and are getting started "early."

Oh you know what? To heck with it. Just post whatever you want... It's late an I'm tired and I'll just put off doing it till the last minute and pretend I got a break. =P

Response to: 5 Shades of Red Collab! Posted February 17th, 2005 in Game Development

On the one hand, I like the idea of the one continuous movie, but it's got some issues. First, because everyone would be in a row, someone with no skill or ambition could screw over the entire project. How many people dropped out of the last Shades of? A lot. I think there were some other things I was going to mention, but now I forget.

As for the Shades of Blue ideas, I think the white and black help add serious contrast to the pieces. You don't get any lighter or darker than white and black... It's a good idea to have contrast.

Ps. Today I typed my password in with CAPlocks on and when it kept not working, NG's refused to let me sign in the rest of the day. =P

good idea. A friend of mine sugested using 2 sets of 5 shades of a color. Like future= 5 shades of brown, Water = 5 Shades of Blue, Both= 10 Shades of Brown and Blue. Wudda ya think of his idea?

Blah, I don't like it. Then you start getting so complex! The best art is simple and bold, and I think with two colors you'll lose some of the effect. But that's just me. It seems like from the SoR reviews more of the normal NG people would like your idea better. Or your "friend's" idea... "Friend" =)
