Hey all! I just checked igncube.com and what to my suprise- they used my comic in the latest Mailbag! I was so excited I had to tell someone, so I'm telling all of you, mainly because everyone else I know is still asleep.

That's the current link, but after a new Mailbag is put up it'll change to whatever links to today's Mailbag. I think it's the IgnCube Mailbag for March 3rd (even though today's the 4th)

Sigh, I'm not sure if I'm in for this one. I'm not huge on the patriotic theme... I dunno, maybe. We'll just have to wait and see I guess; it's not like there isn't time to decide!

MyNameWontFitIn gave me permission to use pencil crayons to color in my pictures but I'm only allowed to use blue ones and no black outlines (luckly i have a blue felt pen for inking instead!)

And G_C, I'm sorry you didn't make co-author. I really thought your game was cool, and I think it was the more simplistic graphics that made it just miss the vote. The concept was fantastic though. You should do an updated version sometime in many colors! I bet it would do really well. And don't forget, Glaiel_Gamer said you'd definately get co-author the next time if you missed it this time.

Also while it's true that the current system of voting could make people simply vote for their friends, it seems to me that the people who normally follow through with this collab are above that level, and vote on who is truly worthy of getting in. Honestly, it's pretty apparent if someone votes for absolute crap just because it's done by a friend. We all want this to be the best collab on NG so we strive to vote in the best of the best.

At least, I think so anyway.

Anyone who submits gets to vote, and if it's like SoR, every person gets four votes, and the people with the most votes get in/co-author. You know what's good? Not using copyrighted music! If you use something original, not only does it prevent you from being sued, but no one else will have used it! Wow. It's cool I know.
Honestly I guess this just strikes a sore spot with me because so very many things on NG makes it through portal JUST because of a song. Use a popular song and you can get any crap animation through the gauntlet.
I think everyone should come up with their own works, even if it's mainly stolen- I mean- "inspired" by someone else's creation. =)
And I'll stop ranting about that now.

But then again, most people don't write like me.

Instead, pick a subject that you know well enough to jibber about for 500 words. And have someone review it and help fix it when your done. Revision is key.

I think a whole lot of people would go crazy if we weren't allowed gradients =)
I thought about doing mine in only solid blues, but then realised how hard it is! Oh well, back to gradients for me.

Also, just before I forget (even though it's very far away) whenever you submit the final file, you should probably explain in detail the whole "Shades of" idea again. Last time it seemed like some people got confused with "the rules were the same as the last one."

Granted, but you'd have to actually do it that way, and with all those alphas your framerate would drop and the overal quality would suck. That's why most people just stick with a few gradients and alphas where necessary.

I think an extension isn't such a good idea. The whole due date thing was already pushed back once, and this late in the game (aka tomorrow) further delay would hurt the contest more than help it. I myself just finished yesterday, but I would understand the feelings of the people who've been done for weeks now and really want to see their work up and in complete Portal form.

So what's the story with voting? I know Glaiel_Gamer said he'd post them all on the 1st on his website, but I don't want to miss it! So any idea when it'll all be ready?

You just select all the frames once you're done, then copy them and create a new movie clip, paste them in that new timeline and VOILA! You have a whole cartoon in a movie clip!

I'm going to assume that no time limit mentioned in the first post means no time limit at all. I know there's talk of 30-50 seconds, but last time Greedom's awsome animation was waaaaay longer than that, (and I worked uber-hard to cut mine down to 38 seconds) so I'm going the feature film length route this time =P

Have you tried deleting all your preferences? Because often times that will fix everything all up nicely.
