oh ok. usually shows at maybe 21, 22 minutes long per half hour of tv. so doubling it would mean 42-44 minutes, and 16 minutes of commercials. Im just not sure if that's a good estimate or not..

Are there any like writing forums I can post this on?

Anyway, I thought I'd try newgrounds first.

I'm writing a tv spec of spongebob and it will be an hour long special.

Now, do I follow the 3 act thing or are there more acts with a longer showing? And what do I write in for commercial breaks, I'm sure there's something more professional than "Commercial Break."

And lastly, how many commercial breaks do you suggest for an hour long special, and how long should I write segments between the breaks?

Ok, I'd like to get into writing professionally ive done it for a while now just with stupid cartoons with friends but I want to write material that professional writers and producers and stuff will actually read. So, I kind of know the format, and know what it is supposed to look like, but I'm not a big microsoft works wizard and i dont know how to make it like that.. The margins ive been given on websites dont look anything like the samples I've seen.

So does anyone have any tips on how to make it look professional? I am fine on the actual writing part, I just need to learn the way to write it so people will actually read it and give it a chance. Like, what kind of actions goes where, dialogue is self explanatory, do I write it like play where I'm like "enter bob" for introducing a character?

You guys should have a pretty good understanding of what I'm asking from what I've told you, so hopefully you can give me a few pointers or point me in the right direction? I've tried to keep this explanation as short as possible for your convenience

Oh, and i'd like to start off writing TV specs, if anyone is wondering what ill be writing.

Thanks ahead of time!

maybe you could explain and help people find the sound they want, and what setup of hardware/virtual hardware to use. like, a heavy death metal sound that doesnt sound distorted or like shit, or a punk rock sound like blink 182, or explain how to edit vocals to make them sound well.. not like some guy in a room recording his voice, like i try reverb, chorus and compressor and it just doesnt sound right i dont know what im doing wrong

then maybe you could just give a short explanation of what each tool does, like noise gates w/ decay, what the best virtual amp sims are to use like in a pod farm, you know just random stuff that can add your own uniqueness to the sound u make.

then at the beginning you have to have a message saying not to use pre made loops or any copywrighted material when submitting to newgrounds, and be like "EVEN THIS is copywrighted/a loop and is NOT OK!"

if i think of more ill come back : ) thanks for makin this man i have a feelin this will help me out

So im making a flash with my buddy and we got all the vocals done and now im just looking for sound effects. I tried every single resource i could find on newgrounds and I couldn't find what i was looking for..

2 sound effects are what i need

1- Semi driving by (cause in the flash a semi hits a dog)

2- an electric shocking sound, with nothing else being shocked in the sound cause i recorded the sound effects.. basically i want the most intense sounding electric shocking sound cause at one point this guy has his nipples hooked up to a car battery and i want some good electric noises for that scene lol.. i can loop them if necessary if they arent that long

I thought you guys might have better luck than i did, cause i just simply cant find the sounds.

So i dont know if anyone has made a thread like this or not but i dont know how to EQ or what sounds i can get with EQ so this thread is dedicated to asking EQ questions!

I'll start it off asking what kind of EQ bands use to make angelic punk sounding vocals.. Like, think sum 41 kind of vocals. Is it low/medium/high boost? or low/medium/high cut? or a mixture of both?

And also how do you use the mixer for an EQ, there are numbers with no labels to what they do so if someone could explain how to use that too that would be great!

Anyways, lets zip up our flys now. You need to get thicker skin, you cant get bent out of shape about this stuff. We've all gotten mad before about similar stuff, the trick is not to get crippled by it. Just make what you want to make, if it has merits then people will recognize that and give you the credit for it. If you make something truly good, it doesn't matter whats been made before.

Look how many successful Awesome parodies there are. I'm not saying you're parodying or mimicking what Egos done I'm just saying don't blame others for you not being able to create something, Ego, Girlchan, or the people that would accusing you of ripping him off aren't stopping you, you're stopping you.

okay thank you, i honestly wasnt pissed at egoraptor for girlchan i was like "FUCK!! he beat me to it!!" when it came out. its just when people say my work is a ripoff of it before theyve even see it, ya pisses me off. ill try not to let it get to me in the future until they say it about a finished product. annnd yeah i realize its my fault, thats why i posted in here in the first place. cause i cant draw very well and i want to start animating my scripts im writing.

so.. one more time lol anybody know like a good store to go to about that? would barnes and noble have anything that would help me or like.. should i keep looking up tutorials on youtube?

cause i havent started like hardcore drawing until now and it takes yeaaaars to hone your abilities. im just looking for some help to get me started really cause thats the hardest part, getting started. im willing to put in the hours and practice.. cause hell, i spent literally all day yesterday on the computer looking at drawing tutorials and learning about shading and character structure and whatnot.

am i even in the right forum to ask this? lol

He's promised a lot of time to do something not parody related, but same has Kirbopher so I don't know what to think.

i know right? i mean its all the same humor now, like almost the exact same jokes EVERY time. just with a twist to make it fit wahtever hes parodying. i LOVE original flashes that dont get the credit and respect they deserve. like one of my favorites is "these pancakes are tiny" thats just old fashioned humor with no parody-ing

thats one thing i promised myself id do. id make an anime parody cartoon. BUT NOT.. make fun of ANY anime, cause old fashioned naruto or bleach jokes just get old. im talking about writing a good storyline and making it as fucked up as possible, some south park styled humor, and my goal is to make even people that watch it from the beginnning, just lost as hell. within reason of course.

cause i laugh my ass off everytime i watched the azn channel saturday nights and just get thrown into an anime 100 episodes in and have NOOOO idea whats going on.. i want people to experience anime the way i do, and i think i can do that with my cartoon.

He's done parody of games, and successfully, for years. You're asking us all to believe he'd be incapable of writing a funny anime parody, which I just don't buy. Also, the idea to a parody of anime stereotypes itself isn't like... a super impressive thing to think up. It's logical to parody something that is popular, that's how you get an audience.

Sorry you feel betrayed or like you got the short end of the stick, but you really have nothing to show us, and Ego does.

I also have 110% faith in whatever Tomamoto writes.

wow way to put words in my mouth i was saying i enjoyed the parody but it just came out right after i approached him with the SAME exact idea. i never said he is incapable of writing anything funny, but lately he has made shit. and while we're on the topic i really dont think he could write anything BUt parodies. thats all he has.

and why the fuck would i show you guys anything ive made when i just talked about all that with egoraptor? like id let it happen again. but i have scripts, storyboards, and audio dating back to 2006 and voice acting projects dating back to last year for it. NOT TO MENTION the pms between me and egoraptor about trying to recruit him to write it with me and voice act with me.

and the fucking POINT i was making wasnt that he STOLE anything from me, or that my idea is UNIQUE. im saying, im pissed that he released girlchan in paradise right after i told him my idea, cause NOW fucks like YOU will say "OH RIPOFF OF EGORAPTOR." which yes, pisses me the fuck off.

Now let me get this fucking STRAIGHT so you dont misunderstand me again. He didnt steal anything important like characters, plot, jokes, etc. I just dont want people to say its a ripoff of egoraptor. thats all im asking.

Well.. No need to get so angry.. It quite hard to guess that it was your idea.. Have you ever made a cartoon?

sorry, its just that im pissed about that with egoraptor.. if anyone doesnt believe me just have a mod check me and his message history, youll see my pms to him with the idea for this.. he changed it up a bit cause mine was bout an foreign exchanged student in japan and it woulda done some stereotypes like in girlchan in paradise.

sorry for being angry haha but its frustrating that he did that.

ive never actaully finished a flash, right now im teaching myself how to draw really well with like awesome shading.

but i wrote the script for the cartoon, and i can easily get voice actors and all the SFX needed for it. i actually almost got the audio made cause this was originally a school project but i dropped out cause i was sick too much and wasnt going to graduate, so i never finished this project and never actually HIRED any voice actors that auditioned for it.

like, i know i can make this cartoon. i just need to brush up my animation and drawing skills, then ill get the audio needed and animate this myself over like a 1 year span. then ill send it to every major network president and some talent scouts and stuff and hopefully it will get picked up.

but yeah, egoraptor didnt steal this idea, he just came out with something JUST like it right after i told him about it. otherwise i woulda pmed tom fulp about it by now.

but yeah, i really believe this could take off. provided i make it EXACTLY the way i want it, which should be really easy since im animating, doing the voices, and directing everything.

really the only point i was trying to ask here was if theres anyway i could learn to draw faster.. cause on my own, im going at such a sluggish slow pace and id like to get some books or take some classes or something on it.

and once i learn to draw better, ill buy a wacom and learn to animate what i draw lol.

ok so

im holdin off on getting a wacom tablet for a while cause i cant draw worth crap.

ive been looking at tutorials on how to draw anime allllll day, and its helping a lot but i dont feel like im getting anywhere.

my next step is to get some art supplies and just pretty much draw all day listening to music. possibly asian kung fu generation cause it would totally fit the anime drawing lol

so the point of this thread is to ask two questions.. what kinda paper//pencils should i get cause i dont know anything about drawing detailed sketches

and #2.. anyone know like some good tutorials on drawing? or like books i can buy on drawing and shading and like... character proportion balance (i cant remember what its called, basically make all parts of the body the right sizes)

is this the best step for me right now? cause id love to learn to draw anime, and possibly learn to animate it with a wacom tablet. but i decided, screw the tablet til i learn shading and learn to draw with it lol
