I really think we are coming to a peak of 2D graphics now (all real time, all 3d). I don't think we can progress a huge amount more without moving into the realms of VR or an entirely new perspective on gaming.
I think theres still a lot of room for games to get better visually. Games like Crysis and Gran Turismo do look amazing, but I still think there is way more room for improvement. The thing I always do is look to the 3D animate films, we havent seen anything near the visuals in Up, or even Spirits Within yet. Hopefully when we reach that "photorealistic" stage where everything looks perfect, developers will look to other ways of improving visuals to make them stand out from all the other pixel-perfect games out there.
Glaiel, Closure is way more visually stimulating to me than yet another first person shooter with 40 shaders stuck on would be.
See, im the total opposite. The more I do it, the more I love making games, and I think Flash is the perfect medium to make great games quickly and get them played by a huge audience.
I disagree that you cant make great games with Flash. As Paranoia said, the large majority of flash games are simple because that is the formula that does well, and a lot of developers are young and these kinds of games are easier to make.
That doesnt mean you cant make awesome games, and there are plenty of games out there that have been truly amazing. We just need to push the platform, hopefully the introduction of MT's will allow us to spend longer making these awesome games.

Well, it was a pretty stupid question. Care to elaborate a little? Most people here use Adobe Flash... Photoshop for bitmap bgs?
Im gonna go on dragons den with a wacom with the pen attached by a piece of string. Ive lost the little bastard AGAIN!
Anyone else have this problem? :P

The Office, is hands down best show ever.
Please not the US one?
Ive been watching Dragons Den quite a lot recently. They either click or just fail and get ripped apart, either way its entertaining to watch :)

Awesome! Cheers for that man, I would probably have never found that :) Looking at that game, I cant believe how long I spent on some of those animations, considering how small they are. You can zoom in like 4 times and they still look sweet. Ive got lazy!
Thanks for the comments about the ROOTS too, they are staying!
Ive been working on some ideas for a new site layout, what do you think? People say the roots are hard to read but i like them :( It doesnt need to be the most accessible site in the world, id rather sacrifice something for art than have a boring layout. Any thoughts?
I lost a game today :( I totally forgot Christmas Cannon was on Gamejacket, now its vanished to the world! I dont even have the source files, what a bastard.
4 pack of the nicest stuff you can find, and then a crate of the cheapest lager is the way to go, it all tastes the same by that point, i aint made of money.

I actually think it looks great, I like the cartoony look to the character, makes it seem like some 1940's cartoon, along with the black and white filter. It looks different, but I think thats a good thing, especially for a game like this.
Just my thoughts!

Haha great photos!
It must be wierd to meet a shit load of people off NG all at once. I went for a drink with Chaz the other day which was pretty cool. I imagined him to be 15 for some reason :)

Does any one know how to get sound files back out of an fla? And I dont want to go through each one, put it in the timeline and export it as a wav.
I like Guinea Pop, might use that :)

Shittest name for a game ever?

I think the space could be handled a little better... Hopefully once the front page is wide it will give that extra room to allow a lot more content on the front page. The problem is that Newgrounds is such a large community with so many different aspects to it (games, movies, audio, art, user pages etc), that to fit a large range of the best work and keep it constantly updated is a big task and hard to do on the current layout.

Those look sweet man, are you working on a game?
Whats a kongregate holiday?!
haha I think Rupert Grint is starting at Bournemouth uni this year, even better!
looks great man! i like the perspective youve got on the platforms/character.
Right, so: You want someone to animate an entire series of a cartoon, which might be released on DVD, so the animator might POSSIBLEY get paid?

Looks great, 2 things if you wanna improve it :
Having the head as a static movieclip looks a bit wierd when everything else is nice and frame by framed, maybe put a bit of movement on the head, even if its every other frame?
His torso stays in the same place, ad a bit of vertical movement in there, even if its just tweening the whole movieclip.

I think the key is to have as much content as all the free games out there, but offer extras as an option to the players that love your game. The time it takes to make a few extra levels, add some new enemys and maybe a new gameplay element is tiny compared to how long the initial game takes to build. You can see it as an investment.

How about xbox 360 and PS3? And as Coaly said, you only need to sell to a tiny percent of your audience. If you hit 1%, thats fucking huge.

Without this sounding too much like an interview question, what are you adding to Penguinz 2 to make it even more addictive, and make people willing to hand out their cash?
Oops missed that, ages ago aswell! I suck.
Nah dont worry, this aint gonna be the same :) The first game was pretty much a tech demo compared to this! I dont really wanna say too much cos (hopefully) its awesomeness will be a nice surprise. But yeah, think outside the 30 second arena deathmatchs. No staggy, think more Metal Slug. But with dragon Boss battles on top of speeding trains. And its not just snowy, you fight every where and every kind of animal. And Zombies. Im not saying anything else :)
Check out this article regarding Flash Game monetisation and micro transactions. Very useful article if youre interested in this kind of thing, I think I wanna go down the MT route with Penguinz 2.
