Kayn you know everything! :) I guess its not really NG's fault, bah!

Sam, I've never had a fee before now and ive ordered stuff twice before. This is just a meat boy plush + 2 comics my girlfriend ordered - I cant imagine it weighs much at all!

Has anyone seen videos of LittleBigPlanet 2? I was a big fan of the original and think it deserved all the praise it received, this one looks even more ambitious and could again be very innovative.

I really like the idea of user created games with multiple levels, some of the original user LBP levels were great, hopefully this will appeal to a wider audience and make lots more possible :)

Im pissed off with you Newgrounds!

Just got a slip through the door saying my NG Store package wasnt delivered because there was an unpaid £13.50 customs charge. Its been taken off to the "nearest" warehouse 15 bastard miles away. I dont drive so I've gotta now get it REdelivered to my nearest Post Office branch to pick it up and pay the fucking fee.

why

Phew, just handed in my final project for uni! Ive just got a 5000 word production analysis and then I'm done! Pretty pleased with how it has turned out, it needs a helluva lot of work before its ready for web release though! Hopefully this ones going to be pretty special :)

What a waste of time higher eduction has turned out to be! I cant WAIT to go freelance full time!

Has anyone seen The Yes Men: Fix The World? If you want a documentary which will make you laugh and furious at the world at the same time, I thoroughly recommend it.

(Post-)Hardcore, Metal, Heavy Rock.

Anything like that? If so, name me some of your favourite bands

Sure!

My favourite metal band at the moment is Sylosis, such a perfect mix of epic melodies and brutal riffs :) Im pretty sure they will explode as soon as they release their new album.

Also a big fan of Darkest Hour if you are into metalcore, Deliver Us is a fucking sublime album.

Check out Black Tide too if you havent heard them, pretty sweet Hard Rock band, their album is SO good for just driving around in the sunshine.

Destroy the Runner are kinda whiney but you might like them if you like BFMV's new stuff! (I hate it, so much)

I was going to recommend Evita too, but just visited their myspace and discovered they are breaking up, which is pretty gutting!

Seriously though, Sylosis. I have been learning all the songs from their album over the last few months and it has made me such, such a better guitarist. Check em out!

Sorry about that to people that dont like metal! fuck you! :3

Big games are fun so make ;) Even though I've never finished of mine.

Yeah this is what I have quickly come to realize in the past year or so. To make money, all a Flash game really needs is some kind of unique gameplay element, some appealing design and to be delivered at a fairly high standard. Its kind of a sad fact, but sponsors really don't seem to care about deep gameplay, high levels of polish, and those extra finishing touches that take time but really make a game shine.

If you are trying to make a living out of it the key is to balance yourself - do some quick games that you know will make some easy money, and use that extra cash to allow yourself to spend longer on the big projects that YOU really want to make.

Very unfair comment I would say, Glaiel has never come in here bragging about money and im pretty sure a lot more thought goes into his games than a lot of the other devs here, myself included.

I was thinking about a 20-80 revenue split but I think it would depend on how much work they would do. It may be more like a 30-70, only because I'm doing the design, code, and character art and animation. but as I said I'm really open as I'm mainly doing it for the love of it :)

Your art submissions for your RPG are exactly the type of thing I would be looking for - what type of split would you be looking for?

Thanks a lot dude! Right now I am way too busy to be taking on any more projects, but ill possibly be free in like a months time...

I realllly need to make penguinz 2 though!

As for the revenue split its kind of hard, personally I have only ever worked with a 50/50 split, but thats with me doing 100% art for the project and also having a lot of input into the game design.

30-70 sounds like a pretty good deal for the artist for just the backgrounds imho, unless you were planning on having a shit load of them. You would probably get better results and the same amount of money getting someone to do all of the games art and splitting 50/50. Some good original characters and a fair bit of polish could make this do really well!

What are you offering in return, payment, revenue split...? The game looks nice btw!

Response to: The Flash 'Reg' Lounge Posted May 3rd, 2010 in Game Development

This has been the only thing that has managed to convince me that half decent games might be possible in HTML5. Pretty nice, Ive already copied the source and released 3 new versions and claimed all the credit though.

I just really dont see the point to be honest, especially with plugin installations so discreet these days. I'd expect Unity to overtake Flash in browser games before anything else does.

I still cant understand how they arent making any money from ads, they arent the most impressive play statistics ive ever seen but they should still be making loads more than that!

FGL seems to be naturally increasing as more sponsors and developers are signing up, and thats opening up increased opportunities for devs. February was insane with the total sales $150k above the previous highest month (linky). Not sure if this is a good thing for developers overall though, the market is becoming more saturated and while the handful of top games sell for massive lumps of cash like clockwork, there are hundreds that sell for barely anything.

Hopefully it'll balance out a bit in the future, and hopefully the market doesnt crash after all this investment thats being put into it.

On another note has anyone here applied for the Mochi Game developers Fund?

Well it was my 21st on Sunday so we checked into our amazingly sweet apartment partied hard that night. We also went to visit a friend in Lieden which was lovely as usual and checked out the Van Gogh museum which was pretty sweet too, although we arrived 40 mins before closing time.

Loving the 5 euro pints btw! :P

I think Unity is only starting to take off, it just takes ages for a new browser plugin to get picked up by the mainstream. They're making all the right moves though, the compatibility list is off the roof with the recent 360 and ps3 support. Also with their embedded install 60% of people without the plug-in that come across Unity content on the web complete the installation process and view the content. With big players like Lego and cartoon network supporting Unity, I reckon its only a matter of time.

someones been researching for his dissertation :3

Back from Amsterdam, probably the best holiday of my life :)

Im totally stoked about Sushi Cat getting monthly 5th, I asked this in the announcement thread but didnt get a reply, any ideas if co authors get a certificate for the monthly awards? Do they even still do those? Ive been wanting one for AGES! :)

Anyway, 1 month until the hand in date for Enola. Lets see how this turns out!

The wiki looks great and the Game and Movie sections is a brilliant idea. I definitely think there's more that could go down there though, how about recommended control schemes for popular game genres?

I REALLY think Newgrounds could do with a license free sound effects library too, its so hard to find decent gun/bullet sound effects these days! Im not sure if it could be user generated, I imagine it would be a lot easier for a copyrighted file to slip through, but its still an idea.

Pretty pleased with how it came out, some of the level design is a bit shoddy but I didnt have any input in that. Still not bad for 7 days work :)
