Ive never seen the point of wasting day after day working a shitty job, if youve got a skill (which you do!) that you can improve while building up a portfolio. At the same time as that, isnt making games way more fun than working in Tescos? At the start you might not be making big bucks, but if you are determined and work hard it is infinitely more rewarding than a "normal" job.

And yeah, the money can be good if you do it right.

I dont know how many people here will be looking to hire people, it doesnt really seem like the right kind of place. If youre serious about it you might have more luck at somewhere like oDesk, which is designed specifically for this kind of thing. There are literally thousands of potential employees from all kinds of different areas of work, you should check it out!

i sound like a fucking salesman, ive never actually done any work through oDesk but its 100% legit and youll probably have way more luck finding work there than here.

Wow, Download this year was the best festival ive ever been to. Absolutely amazing lineup and atmosphere, I dont think I could possibly see a more diverse and impressive list of bands in 3 days.

And then there was this. Oh shit son.

Yeah cant wait for Dream Theater, ive seen them once before, when the last played download, and were amazing :)

The best sound system ive ever heard was Roger Waters at Hyde Park - that really blew me away!

Im heading to Download festival tomorrow! Any UK regs making it this year? Really excited , there are some great bands playing and ive spent way too long at my computer over the last few months.

One annoying thing is the game ive been doing for Armor Games is being released either tomorrow or thursday, so I wont get to see how well it does until monday! Keep a look out for it, its called Medieval Mercenaries. Ah well, Download is a lot more important!

Hey, I was wondering if there were any scriptwriters out there that fancy helping me with the script and story for Penguinz 2?

I already have the story outline and quite a lot of details already done, but really wanna nail the script and I dont have a lot of experience with writing at all. It seems stupid spending hours animating something if what they are saying sounds rubbish :)

Its gonna be a pretty massive game, with an intro and short cutscenes interspersed between levels. I want the production to be high on every level, and with a great story and script the game could be huge :) The first game currently has 3.5 million plays across the internet, and im confident this one is gonna do considerably better.

So, if theres anyone willing to have a look at my game plan and script, and make sure everything seems professional and done well just send me a PM or catch me on MSN via my site plugin ! You will of course be credited for your help and who knows, Tom mentioned scriptwriters may be involved in the next power of 3(4?), so I will be looking for someone to work with then!

Download is awesome! I went to reading last year and everything about it except rage against the machine was shit compared to download. I love the metalhead atmosphere, sure there have been a few off years, but hopefully this year they will make up for that, the lineup is awesome imo.

Flash sites can be great if done right. Meomi Cloud House is one of my favourites, hugely inspirational site for me. I want to do something kind of similar when I redo my site! Gonna be pimpin'...

I totally disagreeeee. Its your job as an artist to push yourself. Code is about logic and solving the problem, so your goals are clear and defined. As an artist, you know what you need to draw, but its up to you to push yourself creatively and explore new methods and ideas.

Just because youve animated a few good walk cycles doesnt mean you have it down to a tee. There are always ways to improve, use different styles, over exaggerate the movement etc.

Level and character design is also one of the most important things about a game. Its a big job to create a believable universe and make it finanically valuable, but games like alien homonid, pico, fancy pants are all remembered and have value for their characters and environments.

There are some fucking great bands playing at Sonisphere, cant argue with metallica, machine head and lamb of god, but ive seen all those bands and Download has a nice mix of new bands as well as some old bands that a lot of people wont have got the opportunity to see before.

All 3 of my housemates are on a computer programming course, so ive usually got someone around who knows how to code! I made Fowl Play with one of them. Ive also got a good friend on my course who programs, hopefully we are gonna collaborate for our final year projects.

I agree, working together IRL is a LOT more productive and rewarding.

No idea whatsoever, Glaiel doesnt think so!

How did you arrange the pay-out if you don't mind sharing that info?

They got in contact with LongAnimals saying they were a group of programmers who port games for fun and wanted to do Penguinz for the iPhone

Do you get a portion of the sales? Did they decide on a price level yet?

yeah we get 60% after apples cut, which is pretty crazy if you ask me but im not complaining!

Is there gonna be a demo? Do they involve you in the development process?

I have no idea, they might release a trial version. I think theyve spoken to LongAnimals quite a bit about the enemy algorithms and how stuff works, but I havent really been involved at all, past sending the fla with all the artwork in.

Sorry for all these questions, but I'm really interested in iPhone development. I think I'm going to give it a shot after this summmer, I have a mac, I have an iPhone, all I need to do is give some money to Apple for the SDK.

No worries, Its an area im interested in too so this will be a really great test. As Glaiel said to me, games that arent designed with the touch interface in mind from the very start dont do nearly as well as games that use the touch mechanism as the core idea and build from there. Anyway, we shall see!

I got Penguinz on my iPhone! The guys porting it sent me an early version to test, its actually surprisingly fun! All there is at the moment is one level, 8 of the same enemy, shooting and pickups, but its fun to play around with. My only worry is how its gonna play with a few different enemy types in memory and an automatic weapon...

Anyway, a nice surprise today!

Crossbow and nail gun is sweet :) Great ideas, cheers man!

Large ammo clip (varies, so you can make it up), fast fire rate, quick reload, and fairly good damage.

Yeah awesome, I love that weapon in Cod:Wow! Definately gonna put that one in, it fucking spits!

Cis 50MG heavy machine gun, double ammo feed (duel barrels and ammo belts), alternate fire at quarter second delay.
Slow machine gun, but powerful, and you don't have to reload. (The belt just keeps going till you're out of bullets?)

Yeah there will at least be one heavy machine gun in there, awesome that ive got a name for one :P

Alrighty, AA-12 Automatic Shotgun.
Clip size is 12, delay between shots could be like a quarter of a second, and reload would take around 2 seconds.

Yeah shit like that is perfect!

Sounds like a good one, ill put it on the list :)

I liked your other idea too, I think we are mainly gonna stick to normal weapons, but it would be cool to have some of the heavy weapons a bit fucked up :P

Penguinz 2 - give me weapons! Posted June 3rd, 2009 in General

Ive been planning the next penguinz game for quite a long time now, I want to have the whole game planned before we start making it. Trust me, its gonna need it :)

If you havent played it, here is the first game:

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/48 9777

Im not too good with weapons, I want all of them to have real model names (apart from perhaps a few), but dont really know whats "better" than what etc. With the way the weapons work in this game, I need to know which pistol would be the best and worst in real life. Dont wanna piss people off and have a shitty weapon really powerful :P

If there are any real weapons experts out there it would be great to get a list of a load of different weapons in order of how powerful/effective they would be in real life.

Here are the 5 weapon classes:

%u2022 Pistol
%u2022 Semi automatic
%u2022 Shotgun
%u2022 Automatic
%u2022 Heavy weapon

Im not gonna tell you anything about the game ( I really wish I could), but it would be great to hear what weapons you guys would like to shred the wildlife with!
