There is no right or wrong but theres obviously shit software and decent software. buying the "best" audio editing software isnt going to make you better . . find software that you are comfortable with and learn it like the back of your hand.

Cool Edit Pro is now called Adobe Audition and it may not be that great a program for tracking i can vouch for it being a great program for editing audio. it comes with plenty of isotope plugins that are built in to the software itself . . i can reccomend it. if not give reaper a shot its basically free and ive heard nothing but good things from it.

Response to: Rock And Metal Drumming Midi Packs Posted November 2nd, 2009 in Audio

So far i think the major packs i will work on first are

"Extreme Metal" Pack ( black metal, death metal, death core etc )
"Power Core" Pack ( Metalcore, Power Metal, Melodic metal etc )
"Groove" Pack ( Groove Metal, southern metal )
"Fast and Thrashy Pack" ( Thrash, Hardcore and Hard Punk)

each will include special loops and fills similar in style to prominent bands in the genre

thats why i will use GM to map the drum sounds . .

but i will definantly also map them in superiors and bfd's midi roll so they can utilize the entire kit within both plugins

So i probably wouldn't want this. (i only have problems making slower beats XD)

i'll give my support though.
Also are you just gonna do all this for free or are you expecting to sell these loops?
Just wondering.

Cause if its free ill probably still download it just if i ever need an idea :D
I'd be excited by the trash stuff mostly.

Don't know any good thrash bands to recommend though sorry :P

Im creating a vast number of different packs according to genre at the moment so i will create a couple of stock standard packs available for free . .

i will be setting up a website and other things along the track and will be creating deluxe packs according to genres with at least 1000 fills, and loops that i may charge for a small fee according to size and time it takes to create them

and all packs will be royalty free so they will be available for everyone to use in their songs on a personal and commercial level

Rock And Metal Drumming Midi Packs Posted November 2nd, 2009 in Audio

Hey guys

i know theres alot of people here who take the route of programming drums . .

over the next couple of months im creating a metal drumming midi pack which im aiming to have 500 - 1000 midi loops with many aspects of drumming ranging from thrash to death metal and covering all aspects of genres and drumming styles in between . .

im interested to know whos keen on this idea and would like to help out by giving examples of

- genres
- styles of drumming
- bands / drummers

they would like to see in the pack ..

all midi samples will be at natural velocities and fully adjustable to tempos

im looking to make them compatible with

toontracks ezdrummer, superior drummer and drum kit from hell
BFD 1 and 2
and also other drum prog plugins including steven slates

im aiming to have this pack complete over the next couple of months to six months time

and ill have a link to download from newgrounds once i get a demo of everything ready

please leave feedback on your ideas and opinions

always pay for the software you use for commercial use

But for what I really use to produce music - my guitars and my guitars' equipment (tuners etc.), amps, pedals, mics, recording equipment & speakers, I guess it goes over 6,000. That's not including how much electricity has been used on operating all of this.

Renting the rehearsal room for the band and guitar lessons - 800 a month.

Fixing the guitars and amps when they have issues - 500 (that's about the price of the best DAW, right?).

Strings (estimated) - 150 (This pays for a great software).

Adaptors - 60 (that's what the license costs, according to jarrydn).

Gets you into perspective, DAW users, huh?

Well done . . you have demonstrated how much anyone who owns a guitar spends his money a year . .

And you own audacity . . . wow you must be the at the pinnacle of audio production . . im sure everyone here envies you

6000 isnt really that much to be spending on recording equipment and before you make it out how awesome you seem to think you are please take into consideration how much running a studio really costs . .

just in renting commercial space per month your looking at a couple thousand there . .

and for example the current set up i run at the moment i have at least over 15 thousand dollars including hardware, rack gear, mics and software

and i know for a fact that bigger studios will run ten times the amount of that.

claiming that audacity, adapters and guitar amp is all you need in replacement of a full daw . . really does make you sound like an idiot.

What kind of a thread is this anyway.... NG does not promote piracy. Why make a thread designed for people to say they pirated software?

i understand that newgrounds doesnt promote piracy and im not condoning it in any way either . .

it was just out of curiosity as i came across a few things in the flash forums and discovered most of the flash artist i saw were using pirated software . . .

and i do know for a fact the at least everyone out there not just here on NG has pirated software theres no denying it . . .

im not trying to expose people who use pirate software . . but i know for a fact that everyone on here had to start somewhere and downloading some plugins and software to first create music would have been their first option.

and also this isnt a competition to everyone out there to see who has spent the most on software. . so we dont need dollar figures posted . . .

Response to: *-*-*-* Warning *-*-*-* Posted October 31st, 2009 in Audio

your always going to find this problem with inexperienced producers whether it be in fruity loops or any other DAW . . .

every kid who goes and downloads fl studio or any program all of a sudden make a couple of beats and noises thinking their songs are king dick and wants to show the world . . . then it doesnt sound loud enough so BAM! they crank the volume thinking louder is better so they can sound like everything else on the internet . .

there isnt no real use preaching about it as this is always going to be inevitable . .

if you think your up to it why not just produce a noobie guide to limiting and mastering so you can demonstrate to these people how to do it correctly rather than just having a whinge

Im caught in between and i use both legit and pirate software . . working in a studio i do need to use legit copies of software

where as in the home studio its over run by pirated plugins and software >:)

but im interested . .

who pays?

At 2/1/09 04:05 PM, Nav wrote: Couple of questions (just to get this to be a somewhat informative conversation rather than an advertisement...)...

First of all, what types of effects are you going to be applying in the mastering phase? This makes a huge difference, as I'm sure most people know.

Secondly, what gear are you using to master with? Is it better than what most people have?

Third, how do we know we can trust a random person posting on a forum? Is there some way we can know that the master will actually happen, and that this isn't a scam of some sort?

Yes of course, i can understand that . . .

Majority of masters will have some following done to it

Graphics EQ
Compression
Multiband Limiting
De-esser
Reverb
Brick wall limiting

Plust many other post effects added to it for general audio clean up

I use i mix of Plugins, Software and Hardware to achieve this

I run all this through stereo monitors run through a series of tube pre amplifiers so the sound i get back is natural more so than EQ'd through normal speakers or stereos.

And to prove im not scamming we can go about this a number of different ways

when i master the track(s) and send a preview of the mastered audio through then payment after you are happy with the sound achieved

also half and half payment . . . where half payments before the tracks are mastered then the other half upon completion of the final tracks

also

If anyone would like samples of their audio mastered please dont hesitate to contact me and i can master it and send back a 20 secs sample or something . . .

Im not trying to scam anyone but to help people who want to achieve that extra quality studio sound when it comes home recording, drum programming and mastering . .

Drum Prog and Mastering Service!!! Posted February 1st, 2009 in Audio

Hey everyone

Im more so aiming this towards the Rock / Punk and Metal artists here on newgrounds looking for a quick and cheap solution to recording drums and also the option of the mastering of their tracks.

I am offering to program drums to anyone who would like a studio recorded quality alternative to MIDI drums and other electronic sounding drums.

I have an arsenal of drum sound librarys and mixing tools and software to get any unique sound to suit any genre of drums.

All i need is a midi tracks of the drums and some references to sound and style to the sound you are trying to achieve then i will do the rest to make your drums sound as human and natural as they can get.

I have some samples of drum tracks i have programmed Here and will be putting more up in the near future.

I am offering this service at $20 US per track

If anyone is interested please PM me for more details

I am also offering the option of Mastering your tracks.

All i require for mastering is a high bitrate MP3 or WAV that has ALREADY been MIXED as unmixed tracks cant fix levels themselves during the master. Roughly mixed tracks are also fine but obviously often dont come out sounding as well as better mixed tracks would.

Im offering cheap masters at $25us per track or if you have multiple tracks $40us per 5mins of audio (rounded to the nearest minute)

I have 4 years experience in this field hence why i am offering these services to you so cheap . .

Please dont hesitate to PM me for more info

Cheers
Jay
