Hey, I just released a new animation and I'd love some feedback and how I can improve, and where I can go from here as an animator. Thanks :) Here's the animation in question

your animacion was awsome, but there were too many profecionals
i hope to participate next year
and have a good day :D
Thanks man! Really means a lot, I wish you good luck for next year aswell man :)
But yeah, the competition we had was just in another league, getting through would've been, if I'm honest, an insult to better animators. I'm just a bit bummed out about being scored so low but I can understand why (minimal animation, over reliance on tweens and still images to pad for time, etc).
I felt compelled to make this 'I didn't get in NATA' Thread where we can air out each others disappointments and anxieties for missing the deadline/getting knocked out of the tournament, and give each other an internet hug :)
How's everyone doing?
Well done to everyone who got through!
Was wondering if I could get any feedback on my entry as to why it didnt make the cut? Thank you! It was fun having a crack at it!
Thanks for the mention Tom! I really wish everyone luck (including myself of course ;D) but they're all really worth a watch!

The NG Collection is managed by Tom, and doesn't reflect which entries have been accepted or not - there were 74 entries so they were probably missed but will be added sure, I'm sure.
We have 2 judges' scores in! Waiting on 3 more...
Also, remember the IndieGoGo only goes for 2 more days! http://igg.me/at/ngtournament14 We are still $600 short of our fundraising last year, so keep spreading the word!
Coming soon on the NATA site: A shop! Keep your eyes peeled for that...
Ahhh I can't handle the wait! I was wondering how long until the winners are announced and do we get feedback? First time I've entered this competition so I'm a little new to it all :)
With just a few hours to go ;D

Good luck everybody! Unfortunately they're all looking amazing!
Obligatory post about how much better everyone else's stuff looks haha (holy shit I'm screwed).
Just keep animating, just keep animating...

I was looking into a drawing tablet and I have no idea what I'm looking at. Do you have any recommendations? I have a Mac because I plan on using it for video editing as well. What would be a good program to start? I used flash a few times years ago and I don't remember any of it anyway. Any help would be much appreciated.

This youtube channel is now your new friend :) seriously brilliant tutorial channel for animation, should have all the answers you need (it did for me!)
Hope I'm not too late! (I look beautiful)

Can we discuss Steven Universe here or are do I need to make a seprate club?
Discuss Steven Universe all you like :) not watched it myself though, would you recommend it?
I miss his arm too, though I'm sure he'll get a new one soon, all of the references to his arm being gone in the past always had a replacement one :D
I am so definitely entering this. Good luck everyone!

Hope to Work with you soon!
I'm interested in providing some work, pm me? We can discuss prices and what you'd like animation wise there if that's okay?
At 5/1/14 11:21 PM, Gobblemeister wrote: I'm kind of skeptical that it was Finn's dad
Not very, I think he is but I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out he wasn't
It was a really awesome episode though it really expanded the scope of the Adventure Time universe
I think if it wasn't it would've taken away from the significance of, well, that thing that happened when Finn's dad escaped (being as vague as possible). I doubt the Adventure Time writers are that lazy. But, there's still the question of Finn's mother? Maybe she's badass awesome?
At 5/1/14 06:48 PM, Viper wrote: Love Adventure Time. I've seen every single episode a ton of times. Except the ones dealing with Finn's dad. I've only seen about half of that stuff in total.
Oh man, the two parter with Finn's dad, it's probably the most incredible Adventure Time episode ever. It's a pretty big game changer!
Didn't see one around here so I thought I'd make one. For all things Adventure Time!
Just to start off, should we have this thread with or without spoilers regarding the most recent episodes, I'd love to discuss them here, but you know what people may be like!
He's really really dead. Like, so dead. Cmon dude.
I have nothing against Halal or Islamic culture, but there should be an option. I also think they underestimate the power of bacon, but if they don't like money then it's their loss ;)
The thing you have to remember is that Subway isn't a public service, they're not obliged to sell us anything they don't want to. They're a company, a business, and if you want bacon, there's plenty of places to get it... (I know a guy).
I would get yourself a new PC or laptop as has been said, tablets are not very/at all compatible with drawing/wacom tablets. I have a tablet that I use for reading, browsing and word processing, and while great for those things, it just isn't functional enough to work full time on (even word processing is pushing it).

Thank you! Sorry haven't been on in a few days so that's whats with the late reply. I like your art though, you're much better at drawing than I am so everyone has their talents really :D thanks for looking at my stuff!

Instead of newcomers just kind of falling into posting into topics, most usually felt unwanted and just didn't come back. Now that "I'm new" threads have been ok for a little over 2 years, hopefully newbies won't feel so driven away. Although we still get the occasional newbie or moron who thinks they can be an idiot and that it will be ok..At 4/25/14 07:46 PM, mandog wrote: I miss the days where we used to be openly hostile to newbies...So much love, so little banter! I can understand that. I was a little hesitant posting this thread for the same reason, I think that's why I never latched onto Newgrounds in the past, and it's a shame really I'm only getting to it now. As far as I can tell though the idiots are few and far between, definitely glad I posted this thread, it's been really nice to meet you all.

Ahh cool thank you for kind of literally rolling out the welcome mat! I think I'm gonna spend my evening looking at everyones stuff that they've posted (I'll give your music a listen too :D).
Random question, how do most of you learn to make/produce music? Is there any programs you can recommend? I've been looking into learning myself so I can make some for my animations, it would be a great help!
How we learn ey? Well, I think that the majority of musicians start by learning an instrument. I myself played the piano for several years before starting to make music with DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations). This is not necessarily necessary, but helps you out a lot. How much do you know about music and its creation?
Do you know anything about chords or melodies? If not, I strongly recommend you check out some of that stuff on youtube!
Most Newgrounds Musicians use FL Studio (Fruity Loops), although several other softwares are out there. I use a version of Cubase. If you go to this site, you should be able to be able to download a FL Studio installer. If I understood it correctly, the very same installer will also allow you to download a free demo version. There are some restrictions to it of course :p
Just browse youtube for some beginners guides. Also, here's an example of a short track being made in a few minutes. There are better videos for sure, those were just some I found right now.
Anyhow, don't be mistaken. Learning to make good music will take time, even if you can learn to make some decent stuff pretty quickly.
But there's help to get! If you upload anything to this site, you might just get a few reviews from people, especially after you get scouted. That link is for art mostly, but pretty much the same stuff apply to music.
Before you submit anything though, be sure to check out the Audio Guidlines!
Additionally, Newgrounds hosts a lot of competitions (not only for audio). The most recent was the Art Inspired Music Contest 2014, and here are the winners.
Also, if you have more audio related questions, here's the Audio Forum.
I know this is a lot of info to take in, and there's even more to be said. I hope this was to some help though! :3
Wow, that is a lot of info, brilliant! I've 'dabbled' in that I can play piano and guitar at the most basic basic level, and understand music at a similar level, but overall fairly new to it all! I think I'm gonna invest in a new instrument and learn, maybe look into tryng out Fruity Loops.
I'm looking to learn enough to make more ambient background music, rather than anything too deep or complex, but it doesn't hurt to learn more! But yeah, this is a great amount of help, thank you! (BTW, your music is awesome dude :D)

I personally mostly make music, some of which I upload here, but occasionally I also do other stuff. Not long ago, I made a game for a game jam on the site. Ludum Dare 29 is just about to start, so I'll probably throw myself into that as well. Enjoy your time here at Newgrounds! (The forum rules that were mentioned earlier can be found here, but you don't seem like the kind of guy who's prone to breaking them :)
What do all you guys do anyhoo? Anyone animate, make music, etc?

Recomendations here on Newgrounds to be respected and liked:
. Keep calm, and carry on
. Avoid using offensive words
. Try not to act like a 12 year old
. Be nice, even when you're not treated so
. Stay away from the mods, don't mess with them
. Submit cool stuff
Enjoy the site, while you can.
Yessir. I will be cool and nice and not 12. I'm 21, so I really hope I don't sound 12. 'While I can'?? I'll try, I just hope I'm not gonna get murdered soon after being told that... :S

It's where you "Discuss techniques and methods with fellow animators!"
But if you just wanna chat with other members and shit like that you can just stick around in General for that.
This is insanely helpful, thank you. The community aspect of the site is a bit daunting at first to me so I'm extremely grateful for this list, might go shoehorn myself into one of the clubs!
