[Activity] The Weekly Color Posted August 29th, 2011 in Art

You may be wondering what's with the dude with the rainbow bottle attached to his head who is oozing rainbow and puking one solid color. That is the Color Selectaficator each week he will barf up a different color and that is the chosen color for the the week. We, as people of the art forum, are tasked with making drawing using shades of the selected color. "Why?" you may ask; because a lot of us have some down time and this is a nice little activity to spend a few minutes on a neat little doodle or spend a whole week on a master piece of a single color.
All art forum rules apply
Anyone can post as many pictures any given week so long as they're not spamming crap.
This isn't strict monochrome you can go out of the color's shades as long as its similar. but if you'd like to do true monochrome by all means go ahead.

THE SELECTAFICATOR HAS SPEWED!
a simple blue to kick thing off, have fun.

Yeah, it's not bad, though a background shouldn't hurt (unless you do a terrible job) and do you not know how to crop an image or something?

Kouke
Awesome art style for this. The sin city style fits perfectly with the "fucked up underworld" setting. Though there isn't much in terms of story the monologue essentially states that this is a fucked up then he kills someone. This would make a great intro sequence to a full comic

Knocturne
I like how t as he remembers what he's fighting for his world gets brighter and brighter and finally ending pretty much white; that was a very cool way that the narrative and the the art worked together.
I do notice a dip in quality from the first page to the last.

Aigis
while this could have been due to time constraints You made good use of the insomnia thing by not having any backgrounds it gave the comic the feel that we weren't really in normal reality. The conversation was pretty interesting to follow.

Fifty-50
Your art as usual is nice to look at. Obviously it is short an doesn't tell a story though so there's not much to critique.

M-Vero & Felis
The art was good though a bit messy in some places, I liked the story, it was silly plus you get extra points for throwing Jonny and his ninja stars.

Kinsei01
I liked the story, though better use of shading making the atmosphere darker would've enhanced the creepiness in the story a lot made it feel darker and more ominous

Ramatsu
The art and the story are very good, and consistent throughout. I liked the ending of it. not much to critiques since its overall very solid

Lovingthedark & Wivernryder
The scenes are all pretty to look at, but it took me a while to figure out that he had fallen off the bed, but when I did it made the comic significantly better.

Bilalz
This was a fun little thing, though I think you could have done with a greater color palette and some shading.

There's a lot of white space, you shouldn't have a lot of white space, its ugly. Also if you want to get scouted you should color all of your drawings.

The flute thing isn't entirely straight - it seems to bend where the hand holds it, and the hand holding it looks off as well. The background is pretty boring.

No no no, the background is EXTREMELY boring. and the flute bugs me and I could have gone and fixed it but I decided that instead of fix it I would save myself 5 minutes and just leave it, in hindsight I should have probably just fixed it.

Correct.

alright well if a majority of the people here believe that the heads are too big on your little alien dudes I'm willing to bet that your intended audience for your TV show/web series or whatever it's gonna be are going to think that the heads are a bit too large as well. I'm not saying that it'd make or break the show but The heads could be smaller.

Look at your drawing.
Now look at These Drawings
Now look back at your drawing.
Notice how the two I made are full drawings which include detailed backgrounds as well as characters that fit in with the backgrounds making it a complete drawing. Yours, on the other hand, is a lone figure standing in a simple background that's just there to prevent white space.
Now when I say complete drawing here I, personally, mean if you draw a character make the character be doing something; running, fighting, shooting, sitting, slouching, eating, reading, just give him something to do. On top of that give him a background in which the action he is doing is suitable. or not if you want it to be silly.
BUT considering it is you we are talking about I would settle for a character doing a random pose in a blank space, PROVIDED the character has good linework (not sketchy in any way shape or form) Good anatomy (which you do a good job with in a lot of your drawings anyway) Colored well (no coloring outside of the lines) the character should take up a most of the provided space.
I know that you are capable of doing a complete drawing which is why I bothered to type this up. normally I would just sit back and watch you develop on your own time, or let the other regs handle it, but you've gone on for quite some time with the constant "LOOK AT ME GIVE ME ATTENTION" act so I am giving you directions to getting more attention and better yourself as an artist, WHICH IS WHY THIS FORUM EXISTS.
Take what I've said and use it as you please.

Okay look it is not your Art that's bad. In all of your doodle things I see one or two things that are genuinely good be it the pose, the anatomy, shading etc. Thing that I, and I'm willing to bet a lot of the other people of this forum, find annoying is the fact that YOU DO NOT EVER COMPLETE ANYTHING! You've posted that drawing of "you" in a bunch of threads and it doesn't look complete, neither does anything else in your thread. Sit down and draw something. then color it in. then give it a background. then the people of the forum will actually want to see more from you.

Tl;DR FINISH A DRAWING MAN!
